Eileen Bride along with Thomas Cunniffe were my great uncle Hubert's godparents (1895). They were all from Prosperry Co. Galway. Hubert's parents were Hugh and Catherine (Lyons) Quigley. At this time I know of no connection between my family and Eileen Bride--perhaps this is helpful to someone else.
Marie

Hi
I found Letitia on the 1871 census and the surname was Bride. She was a lodger so no other details. There was no William Bride but there were 2 William McBride's. One was 26 and the other 28 and neither were living in Liverpool.
Was William shown as deceased on the marriage cert?

Hi

On the 1871 - Letitia is shown as 20 and 3 years later in 1874 she was still 20. If it is the right William McBride (unmarried) on the 1851 census, I suspect Letitia was born after 1851 in which case her marriage cert is probably more accurate than the census

Hi

I have the 1871 on CD so I had a look at Hunter St - there were more houses in South Hunter St than Hunter St. Most of the names are so faint that they are virtually unreadable. This could be why I can't find him on the 1871 if they have been unable to read the entry to transcribe the name - it's so frustrating when that happens - although there's no guarantee he was in Hunter St in 1871

Hi

I can find Henry Mercer on the 1851 census index but not on the 1871. There are a lot of them so I concentrated on ones in their upper 40's onwards but none was a watch case maker. Can I suggest that you post a separate message asking for a full 1851 lookup for Henry Mercer quoting piece number 2185/2 folio 404. Ask for ages and relationships so we know whether this Ann is his wife or his daughter. That will give us his age in 1851 and help with a further 1871 search. This is all the info it gives on the 1851 index - all surname Mercer:

Ann b Somerset Bristol
Henry Watch case maker b Liverpool
Henry jnr b Liverpool
Jane 1 month b Liverpool
Margaret b Liverpool

I think this is him on the 1851 census index but he wasn't married then. You will need to post a message asking for a full 1851 lookup to get details of where he was living and his marital status, but I suspect he was a lodger.

Piece number 2182/1 folio 84
William McBride occ HMC searcher b Ireland (HMC is probably His/Her Majesty's Customs)

If you search for Letitia's birth and get a copy of her birth cert, it will give her mothers maiden name which will enable you to search for her parents marriage

I'm looking for my great-grandfather James Bride, born about 1817. He is supposed to have been born in Cloyne, County Cork, Munster Ireland. His wife was Mary Wigmore from the same area. Daughters Maureen, b. 1847, and Ellen b. 1849, were born in Ireland but next child was born in US in 1853.
Have you any info about this branch of Brides in the UK?

She married William Rees Preston I think in Illinois.
Both Ellen Whitten and John Bride were born in Ireland so they may have been McBrides I don't know. Your book probably don't list them. I know John was half Cherokee Indian.
Thanks For Your Help, Jerome

Dear Estella Rose, I do not recognize a connection. My great-great grandparents were Rose Carragher & Owen Daniel Bride (McBride) They were from County Louth Ireland and moved to Wisconsin through New York. They are buried in Chilton town, Wisconsin. Their children (born in Ireland) were Elizabeth, Bernard, James and Kate, (born in America) my great-great grandfather, Owen, Mary and Jane. Do any of this sound familiar. Please advise and thank you for writing. Cathryn

My family, Patrick and Catherine (Redmond), along with son Edward b. 1838, came from Ireland in the early 1840's but I don't know where in Ireland. They went Toranto, Canana and had 3 more boys, Michael, Patrick and my G/Grandfather John b 1850. In the early 1850's they settled in Platteville, WI in America. Do you have any info on where they came from in Ireland? Where did you get that book about the Brides. It sounds very interesting.

My grandmother Mary Lee was from the Ballylanders area, actually Ballyfeerode townland. She left Ireland before she was married, but there were quite a few Lee's in that area. Please let me know if you've found out more since you posted the message.
