I'm Orlando Bridgeman's (b.1701) 6th great grandson. However, looking at Orlando 1701's mother, Mary Woodford Sheldon, the math doesn't work for me: Her birthdate is 1654 which would make her age 47 in 1701. Mary Woodford Sheldon's ages at the births of her other 12 children seem reasonable. Is there another unaccounted wife somewhere? Or, is her birth date incorrect? If she is not Orlando's mother then we are not Sheldon descendants. Would appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks, Bob Skellan.

Looking for information about Terrence Bridgeman, traveled to the US in 1848 aboard the Richard Cobden at the age of 23. He traveled with a Margaret Bridgeman, aged 50 and another Margaret Bridgeman, aged 20. He married Cecelia who was also born in Ireland, but I do not know her maiden name.

This is my great-great grandfather on my mother's side.

Jason, I see you are a Carr. Any relation to John and Catherine Carr of NYC and/or Richmond county? This would be 1850-1900. Have an aunt Julia Carr, never married, parents were John and Catherine? (its not a Bridgman Bible response, but your name caught my eye)

Hey that's my grandparents too... I want to make sure the records are available for all grandchildren not just profiteers who hold others cousins histories for randsom, so as long as I can see a copy, I am cool, thanks for not being a snake & a rat like most of these people out there, on tv I saw someone go thru someones history on a foreclosed storage unit, all these old photos, guy chucks them, I even saw a couple fools on tv get excited when scavangers found a iron grave marker, their first thought, how much can we get for it, It makes me sick, so thanks for trying to return the bible... Hopefully one day some of their grandchildren will see the contents, other than a couple lucky bastards...

Hi Ann,
My information is from my grandmother (Alice), daughter of Bridget, and my mother(Veronica).
In essence, their story is the same as your own regarding William Bridgeman. He and Mary Sheehan are said to have married about 1830 at Ennis, Co. Clare and had three children, Ann, Bridget and Julia.
Julia is said to have married at Bridgenorth to John Hogg of Old graves Hall, Shipley, co York.
William is said to have had a second wife, Catherine Kiely, by whom he wa said to have had three more childre, - Orlando, Isabella and Harriet.
He is said to have died between 1895 and 1900, possibly in Ireland or at Shipley.
He is believed to have been born between about 1800 and 1805 in England or Wales.
My mother had research done in 1969, similar to your own but there were no records of the marriage of Williand and Mary.
Regards,
Brian Morphett

Thank you. Ann Bridgeman and James Casey are my ggg grandparents. I have attempted to trace the Bridgeman line back through Ireland via Anne and Bridget's parents William Bridgeman and Mary Sheehan. The Clare Heritage Centre was not able to make connections via this information although there are a number of Bridgemans who live in Tulla and Ruan Parishes. I am interested in how you have made a Bridgeman connection with Tabba, Ireland. My understanding from family stories is that William was a British Army Captain who was posted to Ireland and became a Catholic but I think there may be some inaccuracies that have arisen down throught the generations.
Anne Young

I'm looking specifically for Frances Mary Bridgeman, a spinster living on Great Russell St. in 1812-14, and a brother or other relative, William. She may have been born around 1755. She is named in the 1812 will of spinster Harriet Cardin, wrote a codicil in 1814 saying she knew Harriet well and her handwriting.

She had a child of the Richard Cardin family (Harriet's brother) named after her born in the West Indies in 1819; the Cardin, Chiles, and Gillett families lived/had houses in Bloomsbury around 1805-1810 and any of those names may be related to the Bridgeman one, especially in relation to St. George's, Bloomsbury.

Confederate Bridgemans from SC?

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me if any of the Bridgemans from the Glassy Mountain / Greenville area of South Carolina fought on the Confederate side during the Civil War?

I'm trying to figure out if one of my Bridgeman ancestors was awarded the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC)'s Southern Cross of Honor after the war. This did not come from the Confederate government, but was commissioned and awarded by the UDC. My mom inherited one, but we have no clue where it came from. I figured a good place to start would be finding out who was a Confederate and who wasn't. Any information/guidance about who fought for which side, who didn't fight, etc. would be greatly appreciated. The tendency to reuse names (ex.: John) I've noticed in our family makes it a bit hard to use the "Civil War Soldiers and Sailors" system with any certainty.

By the way, my line includes John C. Bridgeman (1910-1984), son of John W. Bridgeman (1861-1915), son of McCollough C. Bridgeman (1816-1894).

Thanks! -- Stephanie F

Hi,

It's good to hear from you! I just found your post or I would have replied sooner. Ruth and John were my great grandparents. I'd love to see any pictures of them you have! I don't think I have any from the 1930's, although I have a few of Ruth as a child and several of them after their children were grown.

I haven't sent you any pictures yet but if you'll send me your email I'd be glad to pass on what I have as I get them scanned. I did find a picture of Hulda and several of her children online which I can send you right away if you'd like. Unfortunately the only name attached to the photo was Hulda's, so I'm not sure which of the children are which. I'll try to upload it to my family tree tonight (Frady / Henderson)so you can find it that way as well. It's amazing how much her face resembles her boys.

At the moment I don't know a lot about the Gosnells other than where they lived and the fact that Hulda was "very religious" in my great grandmother's words. I'd love to learn more about them. Any information you would like to share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks -- Stephanie F :)

Hi!

Where in NC did your John Bridgman live? John seems to have been a favorite name among the Bridgeman/Bridgman family, so if you can find out where he lived/died that should help some.

My Bridgeman line seems to have lived in the same area of the NC/SC mountains from the late 1700s/ early 1800s to the present in some cases. If your John is from the Glassy Mountain / Greenville SC or Saluda / Tryon NC area of the mountains then we may be related. I'll be glad to share any information I can!

Good luck! -- Stephanie

No only George Bridgeman, is b. NY Nov 21,1828. Maybe you just need to get back one more generation and it might connect? I will try to scan this soon and I will still send you the names and dates. You may have a better blessing with finding the correct family, as it is your lineage not mine.

I have replied to an Alan MacIntyre Bridgeman on an Ancestry board. If, however, you have heard from him please contact me or pass this along;
jimbridgeman@yahoo.com

For your information this is his post:
Posted reply from Alan MacIntyre
Thomas Bridgeman, Seed company, New york 1824
AlanMacIntyre76 (View posts) Posted: 22 Jul 2006 10:37PM
Classification: Query
Surnames: Bridgeman, MacIntyre

This is your good day. I am Alan Bridgeman MacIntyre. Yes, I am a great grandson of Andrew Bridgeman whose father was the Thomas Bridgeman you wrote about. He married Hannah Eastmond before leaving England. I have a marked up (for next edition) copy of one of Thomas's books and some catelogs. I was in Abdingdon in 2000 and called several of the Bridgemans but got no responce.
My grandfather's MacIntyre Buiilding, built in 1892, is still at 874 Broadway at 18th St where the greenhouses were. The Bridgeman Horticultural Establishment buildings, 876 and 878, were replaced with "Ladies Mile" buildings before 1900.

How did they get there? My side of the family ended up in Arkansas. I have traced my family back to John Bridgman (1780) North Carolina (give or take a few people!). Joshua Bridgman and Elise Elizabeth Beasley are his parents. Are my Bridgmans part of the same family as the Bridgmans that settled in Massachusetts according to James Bridgman's book: Genealogy of the Bridgman family? Any help would be much appreciated!!

I am seeking to find his (my) ancestors. He believed that his mothers name was Helen and he removed the "e" in Bridgeman later in life but I do not know why. If your family has a the name George & Wally, and your family was in the Northern Va area in the 1940's, if there are rumors of someone giving up a small boy in the 40's. please let me know.

Hi. My great grandfather was James (Jim) Marion Bridgman born on August 22, 1865 in Robeson County, NC. We have been trying to trace our ancestry from my father's side of the family. My grandfather (Dad's Dad) was Bridger Jones Bridgman who died quite young at 38 in FL while working on the railroad. He was known as "Jones" by the people who knew him. We have a family book which traces my family tree from 1759 to Jim Bridgman's wife, Weltha Ann Jones but have been unable to trace the tree from Jim's side of the family on back. Would love to discuss this with you or your wife. Thanks, Carl Bridgman

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find out if M.C / McCullough Bridgeman of the Glassy Mountain area of SC was awarded a Southern Cross of Honor by the UDCV. Does anyone happen to know? He was my great grandfather's grandfather, and I think my mom inherited the one we found in her parent's things from her grandfather (my great grandfather), John C. Bridgeman. (John C. was th son of John W., son of McCullough Bridgeman. All of the above lived on/around Hogback Mtn., in SC.)

We have no family history/stories that I'm aware of regarding the medal, so any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone happens to be researching the Gosnell family of the same area, it's also possible the medal could have belonged to either Peter or Charles Richard A. Gosnell, the grandfather and father (respectively) of my great great grandfather's (John W. Bridgeman's) wife, Hulda Gosnell Bridgeman. Again, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Stephanie :)

John W. Bridgeman? If so, he was born on the back of Hogback Mountain in SC, and was married to Hulda Ann Gosnell Bridgeman. He died in the flu epidemic in 1915. Several of his children stayed in the Tryon, NC, area (just across the border). John Charles Bridgeman, one of his sons, was born in 1910 and at some point moved to Gastonia, NC, with his mother, Hulda. John C. Bridgeman was my great-grandfather. If I remember correctly, John W. and Hulda are both buried in the Glassy Mtn. cemetery.

If this doesn't sound right, I've noticed that the Bridgemans and Gosnells in the area intermarried fairly often, and the name John was apparently a favorite name. You might want to check out the Gosnell board as well -- I know I've found tons of stuff there. Good luck! And if you're a cousin, it's nice to meet you!

Myrtle Bridgeman was my great grandmother. I have a book that she wrote about our family's history. Have you already found the information you were looking for?
