I corresponded some years ago with one of the Simmons in my quest for Bridgman/Bridgeman.
If you will email me at lent@wt.net, I will send it to you. It is too lengthy for this site.
Lena Bridgman Truster

What line are you researching. Are you from the Massachusetts line of Bridgman/Bridgeman or maybe from Virginia, NC or Georgia? I have lots of records. Spelling is not important. Many could not spell, even the census takers were very inconsistent.

Lena

I have come to a dead end with an ancestor named John Simmons. Born around 1800, in NC. Married an Elizabeth, born in NC around 1812-1814 (I dont know her surname). They settled in Cave in Rock, IL and a 1860 census shows a Mary Bridgman, age 93, born in VA, living with them. Can anyone possibly help me?
I dont know the county or township of NC that they were from. Nor do I have any parents for either of them. Thanks.

There you will find a forum dedicated to the discussion of our Bridgman family where you can meet, discuss, and exchange info specifically with descendants of this family.

I would be pleased to discuss the Bridgmans with you on our forum. If you wish to contact me privately, please email me at ryk.heather@cogeco.ca .

I would be happy to share any information I have, but, honestly, I have so much that you'll have to tell me what you want to know.

I live in the area too, in Waterdown. Have you been to the old Bridgman farm on Walkers Line? It's still in the family.

Sincerely
Ryk

Peter

I am persuaded by your suggestion that Gilbert was born in Elgin. I cannot locate any source for the Wales reference, so I am doubtful of it. Although I've been unable to find Gilbert in any census records, the rest of the Wrong family of his vintage back in Lincoln all say they were born in Canada, so it would seem likely that Gilbert was too.

As for his father John, I have changed the reference for now to read "Barbados or Wales." When you have confirmation one way or the other let me know and I will update the entry accordingly.

Thanks for the info.

Ryk

Thanks Ryk. Great pages with lots of useful information and leads to pursue. I am just getting started with this type of research and find it quite fulfilling, although I am admittedly daunted by the volume on your site.

I believe your information about John Wrong and Gilbert Wrong (husband of Ann Bridgman, daughter of Wm Bridgman and Mary Belyea) being born in Wales to be wrong. I believe Gilbert was born in Elgin County Ontario and John, his father was born in Barbados. I have quite a bit of information about the Wrongs and am pursuing leads of my own, partly based on oral and written history in the family. My mother is a Wrong. I will update you and Kath Palmer (the researcher identified on your website for that part of the family) when I am satisfied with more concrete Barbados data than I currently have available.

Hi,
In my family history, I have a William Busby (my great grandfather). I suspect he may have been married to 'your' Hannah Bridg(e)man:
http://www.scholarshome.org.uk/ancestry/gen/possible_case_of...

However, I think he may have 'deserted' here and then both had bigamous second marriages:

http://www.scholarshome.org.uk/ancestry/gen/possible_case_of...

I know about him after 1888, but not before. I am trying to convince myself that these are the same two Williams. And that this is bigamy.

Can you throw any light on this?

Re: Bridgman - Iowa

E-mail DiamondXL@aol.com received April 30, 1999. She is from Harriman, TN. Her e-mail follows:

Hello! My name is Crystal Bridgman Miller. I live in Harriman, TN and I am 33 years old. My father lives here as well and his name is Allen Clark Bridgman, age 64 (almost 65) and I have a brother named Dennis Stuart, age 36.
My father, Allen, is the son of Raymond Ward Bridgman of Albion, Iowa, who was the son of Hattie Wiley and Ward Bridgman. Ward was son of Jesse and Claudia (Wright). My father confirmed that Jesse's middle name was Oliver, not Oscar, just as the web page had stated. Jesse was a brother to Ada Matilda and a son of James Watson Bridgman.
My grandfather, Raymond, was a full-time minister of the Jehovah's Witnesses faith and all of us in his family practice that faith as well. My grandfather served in many parts of the country in his ministry, mainly on the East coast around New Bedford, MA, and later he moved to Harriman, TN to retire and be near the rest of our family.

I am very intrigued to find out about my family tree and would enjoy helping you fill out the branches. Please feel free to e-mail us with information. I would also be happy to provide you more deatils about our branch of the family as well. I have 2 young sons of my own, named Wesley and Aaron.
I often heard the sotry that I was the first Bridgman girl in 100 years in our line of descent. The last Bridgman girl, of course was Ada (actually Ara) Matilda, who was Jesse's sister. My grandfather, Raymond had 2 brothers, Ward and another one that died during infancy (don't know his name). Ward never had children. He died in his early 30's of cancer.
T

Thank you for contacting me. I don't have a lot of information on the Bridgman Family other than what I had in my post.

Raymond and Willard I have their DOB but can't find them from there.

Their parents being Jesse Ward Bridgman and Hattie Ellen Wiley. I don't know when they died or where they were buried.

I believe Jesse's parents were Jesse O Bridgman 1863-1946 and Claudia Wright 1862-1930 They are both buried in the Albion Cemetery in Albion, Iowa.

I believe Hattie's parents were James Wiley and Paulina Fulk. They are buried in the Bethel Grove Cemetery, Liscomb, Iowa with a Bridgman next to them. Which I believe was also a child of Jesse and Hattie's.

Any information that you have would be greatly appreciated. You can reach me at maybskts@aim.com

Thanks

Alice died on April 14, 1914, in Allston, Mass., which is near Boston. It was a major fire, and six others also died, so all the Boston papers must have covered it.

Also, I noticed among some papers I have that Charles Lee Shackford worked for the New York Mutual Life Insurance Company. Don't know if that will help, but it is information!

Re: Alice Leonard Bridgman m.? Charles Shackford

Hi there --

I know a LOT about Alice Leonard Bridgman, but not too much about her husband Charles. They were married in Westhampton, Mass., in Nov. 1913. Alice was pregnant with their first child, when their apartment building in Allston (near Boston) caught fire. Alice, in a panic, jumped from a fifth floor window and was killed. I know that Charles Shackford had been married to someone else before he married Alice. Alice was a nurse and attended Charles' first wife when she was dying. Charles and Alice got to know each other, naturally, and married not too long after the first wife died. Another clue in your search for info on Charles might be that Alice's funeral was held at Charles' parents home in Dorchester, Mass. My understanding is that Charles was involved in the insurance business, but don't quote me on that. Hope this info helps. -- Jim Bridgman
