Of what I have been able to find with documentaion is my Great Grandfather Charles Brieger came from Steinburg-Schleswig-Holstein Germany to the USA in 1856. He departed from Breman and arrived in New York. His first work was in a Tannery located at Obernburg, Sullivan County, New York. On the voyage he met a young lady named Franziska Kelle and they later married in 1860. Rather sketchy details have shown him as being the son of Simon Oscar and Mary Tressa. Our family feels he must have had siblings because he was 25 at the time. My neice and I have checked with the Texas Brieger family but could find no connection. Charles died in Pa in 1881.
If I can furnish any additional info let me know.
Alan Brieger

Thank you for the burial info on Charles and Frances Brieger. I have been to LaPorte and visited the Sacred Heart Cemetery, but when I was looking for the burial site for Charles, I was told that he could be buried in an overgrown, inaccessible cemetery at Thorndale.
I have two birth dates for J. Flynn:either 22 March or Nov. 1856 Sullivan Co., PA. Which is correct? Mary A. Brieger Flynn I have c 1856? Do you know which of the girls may have been born in Millersville,Sullivan Co., NY?, not Sullivan Co. PA? I have Simon born at Obernburg, Town of Fremont, Sullivan Co. NY., either Dec. 1860 or 1863???
Are you directly related to Mary Anne and John?
Nancy Frey Pettinelli

My gg grandparents were Charles and Frances Kille Brieger. I don't think Charles and Frances had 8-9 sons. Charles died in a tannery accident and left three girls and a boy, if I remember correctly. Do you know who your gg grandparents were? I noticed that your middle name is Richmond. Does that mean that someone in your family tree is a Richmond? My mother was a Richmond. Maybe we're cousins twice around.

Charles Brieger and Frances Kille Brieger were my g-great grandparents on my father's side. When Frances died she was living with a daughter and son in law, I believe, in Binghamton, NY. I just saw your 2005 query and don't have the time right now to get that research out, but Theresa Brieger, their daughter, married Frank Gallagher and their daughter Emma married my grandfather, Clarence Frey. Emma and Clarence moved to Endicott, NY from LaPorte, PA. My Dad, Lawrence, and his older brother Donald were born in LaPorte. How are you related to Charles and Frances? I'm trying to think of someone in the family who might help.
BRIEGER left the port of Hamburg in Sept. and arrived in New Orleans in November. Gotlieb Brieger was a native of Bangan in Prussia. I am descended from his daughter, Caroline, who married Edward Powitzky.
Tanya: I finally found the info on the above Bible - it was misfiled as I thought it might be. Anyway, it is the Ramsey-Brieger Bible that was the property of Myrtle Ramsey Brieger. Looks like most, if not all, of the info is on the Ramsey family of Round Rock. Apparently, Myrtle was married to a Brieger. If you are still interested in pursuing this, let me know & I'll send you a copy of this paper before it gets misplaced again.

Brieger Family Bible

My husband's Brieger family left Steinburg, Germany for LaPorte, PA about 1850. The grandsons eventually migrated to MS. I saw the notice of the Brieger Family Bible at the Clayton Gen Library in Houston about 2 years ago had the info but didn't follow up since it wasn't the Briegers that I was looking for. Perhaps the library will still have a record of it.

I have found out more information that might help. My grandfathers name was not Ernst, but Rudolph. Rudolph had an older brother named Poul and three older sisters. My father does not remember the girls names. My grandmothers (Hedwig) last name was Wetterman and she had an older brother named Herman, he had two sons named Ludwig and Peter. My father believes that Hedwig and Rudolph were living in Hamburg before they emigrated. Also both of their fathers died in World War 1. That is all I have for now.

Ernst and Hedwig Brieger

I am looking for information on Ernst and Hedwig Brieger families. They came over in 1951 through Paris from Hamburg, Germany. My father, Rolf, was three years old at the time. He has an older brother, Ernst, both of whom were born there. Hedwig was born May 24, 1912, I believe somewhere in Hamburg, Germany. I don't know her last name. My father doesn't remember much about his family from Germany. He believes he still has cousins alive here in the states somewhere. He has a great - aunt named Starr still living in Hamburg. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Eden

Erich Brieger, Hamburg

I am trying to get information about my grandfather Erich Brieger.Unfortunately all information I have is that apparently he had an artist agency in Hamburg's Moenckeberg-strasse. This business was closed by the Nazis in 1937 because he was jewish. There are hints indicating that he might have escaped to the US, he might as well been killed in an concentration camp. There are no further documents or information as he got divorced from my grandmother already between 1925/1930 and had no contact with his family ever since.
This is my firts attempt to trace information - so any help or advise is really appreciated.

Our Charles Brieger came from Poland to TX and stayed in LaGrange and Bastrop entire life. The Bible is supposed to be at Clayton Library in Houston, but the library staff said they had no bibles. At end of the day and time for me to leave I found a whole shelf of bible copies. Hurriededly looked, but didn't find the Brieger Bible.

Earl,

Send a Merry Christmas to Eugene, Donald, and Clay for me. I thought I had found Gottlieb's church records in Mechwitz( a Polish town four miles from Bankau), but that was a dead end again. These are only marriage records 1766-1853. Birth and death aren't listed. There was a Gottlieb Brieger but wrong age. A George Brieger was there so I feel we are near the family roots. I am looking for a researcher in the area to help us out. Reading the Old German Script is a killer on older eyes. Lenore still lives in the Brieger home in Bastrop that your grandfather built. Come to see us.

Brieger

I went to the Holocost Museum in Washington, D.C. We got little booklets with a biography in it. I had Jeno Brieger. He was bron November 17, 1925. He lived in Nagyhalasz, Hungary. He was born in a large, jewish family. His mother was deceased and his father remarried and moved to Nyiregyhaza, Hungary. His father owned a hardware store. Jeno was a tailor. He buried his sewing kit under the family's chicken coop, hoping to recover it after the holocost. In April 1945 Jeno was liberated by British tropps in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. In 1977 he emigrated from Nyiregyhaza to the U.S. He lived in Brooklyn, Kings, New York until his death in 1988.
I thought it would be interesting to find the family of Jeno. If you know/ think you are related please reply.
