I just came across some info that may or may not be useful. I found a Telesphore Briere b. 1876 d. 1953 buried in Rhode Island. I believe the cemetery may be Precious Blood Cemetery in Woonsocket. This cemetery also lists: Ulric J. 1880-1955; Victor J. 1888-1961; and Vitaline d. 1951.

I am searching for information on the NOEL line, and trying to establish whether Marie Eulalie Noel who died 1949 in Willamantic, CT & married to a Telesphore Briere is a relative.

I wonder if you are still monitoring this site, but thought I would try.

My great grandparents were Isaie "Silas" Briere DOB: 8/8/1860 and Celeste Robidoux DOB: 10/29/1864.

Their son, John Briere "Breayea" is their son DOB: 10/09/1891. My grandfather was born in Moores Forks, but all of their records were destroyed by a fire, so I'm not able to find much of anything about his life there. Pepere is the only one who spelled his name Breayea. All of his children spelled it Briere. I have also been told that the "original" spelling is actually Bruyere.

They moved to Danielson, CT where they lived until they died Isaie who was also called Silas died 4/2/1949 and Celeste died 6/15/1950.

You mentioned a tin type photo which has Isaie in it--is it possible to obtain a copy of the photo?

I may be able to get more information from my father who is 82 and may remember something.

I hope to hear from you.

Kathryn

I am descended from one of the brothers of Francoise Chouinard and have been gathering information on collateral branches. I have information on ten or eleven children (I'm not sure whether there was one Caroline or two)of Etienne and Francoise and on some of their grandchildren. You probably have most of what I have but I would like to exchange information. There is probably too much to exchange in board messages so please contact me by e-mail at bethanddonb@aol.com. I have lots of info on Francoise and her family.

Yes, I am still active. My ggrandfather was Alexander Briere. His parents were Etienne Briere and Francoise Chouinard. Have done lots of research on Briere/Breeyear family in the States. Etienne Briere became Eduourd Bruyere in the States and lived in Rouses Point, Port Henry, Crown Point (all in New York State) and died in Hartford, VT. His wife, Francoise, was about 18 years older than he was, according to census and death records. Would like to exchange information with you.

Am researching all of the children of Charles Chouinard and M. Francoise St. Denis who married in Montreal in 1812. The marriage of their daughter M. Francoise Chouinard to Etienne Briere/Bruyere/Breeyear in Ste. Martine in 1844 has long been known but I have only recently become aware of their children and later move to New York. I am currently researching this with a distant cousin, both of us descended from one of Frencoise's brothers, Toussaint Chouinard/Swenor. Your message is old but I am hoping that you are still active and that we can exchange information.

Marcell Briere (Briare) married Celina Germain on Feb. 29, 1848. Both were born in Canada and married in Canada. Their children were Frank, George and Anna. I have documented proof that Frank was born Dec. 1, 1854 so I'm assuming there were children born prior to Frank. If you are related to these people please contact me for further information.

additional information for 1/30/2001 posting:

I found Telesphore Briere & family in the 1920 census of Hillsborough Co., NH. That listed Telesphore as age 51;
Aulalie age 50; Leo 24, Adrien 22; Alice 21; Rose 19; Lucy 18 and Andrew 16.
The son, Armand is listed in the 1920 census of Ramapo, Rockland Co., NY as a brother at the Academy of the Holy Child Jesus. He is listed as age 30.
I believe some of this family went to CA as I had a telephone conversation with a daughter of one of the daughters many years ago. I believe she was an attorney at that time.

This message is actually from Mary Thibaut.

I just found a Telesphore Briere age 51 in the 1920 census of Hillsboro Co., Manchester City, Manchester Twp., New Hampshire. There are several family members listed and they are listed as living on Central Street. I feel fairly certain this is the family I am looking for, but other than the childrens' names corresponding with the names I already had, I have nothing to back up my belief. They were all born in Canada and it says they immigrated in 1912. Those listed are:

Telesphore age 51; Aulalie age 50; Leo age 24; Adrien age 22; Alice age 21; Rose age 19; Lucy age 18 and Andrew age 16.

The Telesphore I am looking for also had a son, Thomas. I found him listed in the 1930 census of Kankakee Co., IL, but it says he immigrated in 1897.

If you have any thoughts, please contact me. Mary

Brieres in upstate NY

I don't remember any of the Briere side of the family, I only remember my grandmother listening to an elderly aunt who spoke only French. If you can assist, I would greatly appreciate it. -Michele

- My great-grandmother, Herminia Briere, married Neal Clairmont in upstate New York around 1900. Neal had a twin brother, Dominic.

- Neal and Herminia had Virginia, Antoinette, Adeline, Ernest, and Leopaul Clairmont.

- My grandmother, Virginia Clairmont, married Alvin Kremzier.

- Virginia and Alvin had Barbara and David Kremzier.

- Barbara, my mother, married Anthony Tortora, and had me, Michele. I changed my last name to honor my great-grandmother Herminia, whom I barely remember except as a comforting presence when I was a toddler. I have a brother, Christian, who has changed his name to Cyan.

According to oral family history, my great-grandfather Bolduc met a Native American woman at a mission. They had 21/22 children. Through my research I found a Joseph Bolduc and a Parmelie Briere who had 21/22 children. There is a mission church call Saint Regis in Quebec and an Indian Reservation called St Regis Village in upstate New York. I hope to find the information I seek.

Look at your Metis search engine entries...then start looking up your family's name in Indian scrips for Canadian land...that will tell you a lot...much more than looking through US records.....Oh, by the way...I'm a first nations person...native american...are you?
