Not sure you are on this site. But I am a descendant of Charles Brierly in Louisville kentucky. His
Father was James Daniel
Brierly born in maysville, Ky. In Kenton County. I have been frustrated regarding the family tree can't find any information past my grandfather. Any information you have would be appreciated. My father died in 2007 so getting information is difficult. There is no one left on the Brierly side to ask sorry to say.

My grandfather is Arthur Brierly. I have just started to track my family tree for my children and grandchildren. I am very interested in any help. I have tried to contact Cheryl but am unable. I know that she, Susan Brierly Wills and I are all cousins. Both of my grandparents came from Bracken County. I started to do this several years ago but had to put it away due to family issues. I do have quite a bit written down but would love more. If anyone could contact me about it that would be great. My email is sbarnard1227@gmail.com. I currently reside near Phoenix, Az.

Brierly families buried - Nicholas County, KY

The Brierly family cemetery is located near Bald Hill, KY (a tiny, tiny village) in Nicholas County. It's not visible from the road and you have to walk thru the woods to get to it. The thru-road that ran to it was closed several years ago.

The site was chosen when Leonard (Lennie - one of many, many Leonard Brierlys) told his mother that he wanted to be buried there when he died- he was just a child and loved to play there. Less than a year later he became ill and died and the family started the cemetery. Lennie was the son of Robert Brierly (b. 1850) and Rebecca Ward Brierly (b. 1849). Here is a list of the people buried there:

Leonard Brierly (Lennie) 1871-1880
Orval Brierly 1875-1918
Robert Brierly 1850-1930
Rebecca Ward Brierly 1849-1937
William Robert Roy Brierly, 1908-1910
Jessie O'Rear Brerily, 1911-1913
William Davis Brierly, 1924-1926
Thomas Henry Brierly, 1852-1937
William Ambry Brierly 1855-1929
Lorene Ward (no dates)
Darius Workman (no dates)
Elizabeth Workman (no dates)
Will Askins (no dates)
Mollie Askins (1873-1943)
Rena Brierly, 1888-1890
Bertha May Brierly, 1892-1894
Bertha Workman, died 1897
Nancy Smitson Brierly 1827 is birthdate - no death date; this is Leonard Lyons Brierly's wife (mother of Robert, Thomas Henry, William A, and Martha Ellen)
Martha Ellen Brierly Toomey, 1848-October 25, 1888 (this is my dad's grandmother - she died and left behind 6 children - the youngest just 3 years old)
Hobert Kelley, n.d.
Lula Kelley, n.d.
Melia Kelley, n.d.
Shell Henderson, n.d.
Jim Henderson, n.d.
Ed Henderson, n.d.
Peter Henderson, n.d.

I believe Mollie Askins is the daughter of Robert and Rebecca. I have no idea what the Workman and Kelley connection is.

There is another Brierly Cemetery but it is located in Robertson County, KY on Brierly Ridge right outside of Mt. Olivet. Also, Leonard Lyons Brierly is buried at the Old Corinth Cemetery in Robertson County.

Hope this helps someone out there in cyber-land!

I wonder if anyone could help me break through this brick wall.

I am trying to find information regarding the family of William BRIERLY/BRIERLEY. (aka Thomas COLLINS). He was born c1824,

William, then known as Thomas Collins, was convicted at Salford of a very minor crime and transported to Australia in 1845.

His indent papers show his proper name as William Brierly and that he last lived with his uncle, Abraham, at native place, Hollingworth. Hollingworth is now part of greater Manchester, about 6 miles west of Manchester and Salford is about 1 mile slightly NE of Manchester.

I will be very grateful for any help.
Hi Chris,
Thankyou very much for the attachments... I do not have any of those ones. I knew I had some missing. I have most of the Australian side although I still suspect some of that is also missing. The sheets I have here have your father's name on them. (Compiled by Dr William B Brierly MA).
I hit a "Brick wall" with my Thomas woolfenden.. on the sheets that your father compiled he states Thomas's first marriage then it is written that he married Mrs Price.???
It is very hard to read. I have been unable to locate any further info on Thomas, his first wife or Mrs Price. I know Thomas was a Tailor by trade but there is no death records for him or his first wife in Australia, I once thought he may have died over in USA .
Do you have the Australian sheets done by your father ??

Debbie.

Hi Chris,
We are of the same family !
I have the same tree compiled by your father Dr William Biggar Brierly. It was handed down to me some 10 years ago. I had no idea that your father came to Australia to visit but my mother said that her uncle went to USA to visit as well. I knew they corresponded with each other from the research material compiled on the sheets.
I am descendant from Thomas Woolfenden (the very myserious Thomas I may add! more about that later...)
Thomas, as you are already aware was the son of Jesse Woolfenden & Hannah Dean. He emigrated to Australia, married in 1869 to Ellen Emma Rosey. They had 2 children Jesse L b 1873 died 1874 & Cecilia Elizabeth b 1871 died 1941. Cecilia married Alfred Stephens and my great grandfather James J B Stephens was born to them in 1893.
James married Edie and my grandfather James John Stephens was born in 1915. James John married Eileen Fountain and my mother was born in 1940.
I have accumulated a very large Woolfenden Family Tree and would like to give you a copy for your reference ( it keeps your father's work going!). It needs to be updated on your side of the world but I have managed to fill in some of the gaps.
Was your father's or Edna's address 90 East Main Street Freehold New Jersey USA?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Please email me direct at jbjackson@optusnet.com.au
Debbie Jackson - Melbourne Australia
My father was Dr. William Biggar Brierly (deceased). He was the past President of the Massachusetts Archealogical Society, a geographer, botanist and family historian. We lived in Millbury, Mass.
The age would have been right for my Aunt Edna for during the 1960's she started to have health problems. She may have been a nurse but I am not really sure. I know for a fact that we are related to the Woolfenden family. My father visited them in Australia a few times.
John McCall is in possession of the last tree my father had recorded but I will send you them via attachment. All the names you mentioned are on there (I believe). Years ago, I thought I was in possession of the original family tree in Indian Ink on a plastic cartographical film. I had told John that I would look. I thought it had disappeared during my moving but it turned up at my sister's home while cleaning. She then sent him the copies via e-mail. I'll send you what I have.
I noticed you have "Debbie-Melbourne". Are you a Woolfenden decendent? The Nom-de-guerre of "jakkkowakkko"; Is that John McCall?
I hope this helps! - Chris

George F Brierly would be my sons great
grandfather. I was married to Raymond E Brierly Jr, and he
died from a brain tumor at 22 yrs old. I'm sure my sons
would appreciate any information you have on the family.
Auntie Edna Brierly had a beautiful up-to-date family tree on
a large cardboard, but her neices threw all that stuff away
when she got old and sickly.
This is a long shot... I have a Joseph Brierly in my database. The Joseph Brierly info I have is that he was a widow when married to my also widowed great great grandmother in 1870. My gg grandmother was Phebe Ester York Dake (1825-1886). From handwritten records: moved to Hancock MN 1876, Joseph died while visiting a relative in England. 1880 Stevens County MN Census indicates only Phebe Brierly and 18 year old son George W Brierly in household. Possible connection?

Kildare in approx. 1806-07 before joining the RIC in Tullamore, Kings Co. (now Co. Offaly) in 1835.

I am particularly interested in finding towns or parishes with protestant BRIERLY families in Co.

I'm looking for info on John Brierly and his wife Hannah(nee ?).
Their names are enscribed on a brooch that belonged to my great grandmother Hannah B(as in Brierly) F (nee Leach) Medlicott. My gr.gram was born abt 1880 in Oldham England. She had a brother Norman, but I dont have their parents name. I'm assuming their dad was "Leach", and mom was the daughter, granddaughter and even gr. grandaughter of a Brierly. On the brooch it says: John Brierly on March 03 1836 at 58yrs.,and Hannah Brierly on March 18 1851 at 72 yrs. These dates are when they both died. Which would make them born abt.1778 and 1779. I need to fill in the blanks from about 1789 (when they possibly married, then started having kids.) to abt 1880. All probably in the Oldham area. Gr.gram Hannah, brother Norman and their parents went to Saskatchewan Canada, but I dont know when. Hannah married Edwin John Medlicottt May 07 1910, he had only been in Canada for abt. 3 yrs. He came from Bexhill. I hope one out there knows something or how to find out. I'm in Canada which makes it a pain to research some things. Thanx Sandy

I have info on a James Brierly and am a direct decendant. He married in 1840, Stubenville, Oh. to Maria Stock. Then we lost all traces of James. Wife, Maria Brierly with 5 children showed up in Fayette County, Pa. on the 1850 census. One child was named James, born 1841 or 43, could this be the James that you are looking for??

My father and I have been looking all over for James, husband of Maria, for three years and have not found any other proof that he existed.
Henry Brierly of Roscrea

Mr Mackie: While it is possible that there is a connection here, I have no information that would suggest or confirm this for you. The earliest definite date that I have for the Brierly side of my family is in 1840, when Ellen BRIERLY was born as the first child of John BRIERLY (a policemen) and Elizabeth BRIERLY (nee PLUNKET). Since I have no idea where John BRIERLY or his family came from, given the dates, it is perfectly possible that he is also a son of Henry BRIERLY and Sarah BENNETT (although one has to asssume that this would be a considerable fluke).

Brierlys of Scottish-Irish descent

While it is possible that there is a connection between your and my families, it is probably a VERY long shot. I have no data on my Brierly family prior to c. 1840, and I do not even know where my 2G-grandfather was born (or indeed, even if it was in Ireland). I am sorry not to be of any more assistance.
