I have Alfred Padgett and Christeena (Christina) (Unknown) Padgett as Thomas's Parents. His Children by Sarah Christopher is up for interpretation...because of poorly copied Census records, but it appears they have a John born 1877, and a James born in either the same year, or in 1879, perhaps. Either that, or the children or 30 and 31 years old in the 1880 Census....which is just obviously wrong! Ancestry.com read it as tho they were both born in 1877...twins, perhaps. As for Thomas's 3 daughters that are found with him in the 1900 Census in the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, I have Cordelia born in 1882, Cora born in 1887, and Mary born in 1889. Who their Mother was is unknown to me....no 1990 Census, unfortunately. But I assume it was Sarah Christopher...since I can't find anyone else to blame pin them on. Rosetta Mulkey and Fate didn't marry until 1896. And, in 1900, he is listed as a widower. I don't know of any children born to them, but, of course, there may have been, I suppose, but they are not in the records. The other child, Andrew Lee Padgett, who is living with Fate in the 1900 Census, I believe from information learned from my Dad, was the son of Cordelia Padgett and her husband, James R. Ratliff, whom she married in Crawford County, Arkansas, at the age of 14, in 1896. In the 1910 Census of Crawford County, Arkansas, Fate is living with a family named Ollinger. He's there with Andrew Lee, this time listed as "Ratlett", not Padgett. I believe this is close enuff to confirm my Dad's story. On Andrew's burial record, however, to make matters even more complicated, his father is listed as an "Ed" Padgett. Perhaps, Edmond Padgett? Fate's Brother?(hard for me to buy.) And the year of birth is different, too. This info was provided by an estranged son of Andrew's, Cletus Hershell Padgett. And, I find it highly suspect. But, that's what's on the burial record. I wish I had a clearer picture of all this, myself. Mary, Fate's Daughter, married a Jess West, and can be found in the 1910 Census living the house before Cora Lucy and Albert Walter Brigance in Hanna, Hughes County, Oklahoma. Cordelia drops out of the records in 1900. She is buried next to Andrew in the New Hope Cemetery, Spiro, Le Flore County, Oklahoma. Her headstone, recently unearthed by a cousin of mine, reads "Deley" 1878 to 1896....which must be wrong, since she was recorded in the 1900 Census. These can be viewed at findagrave.com where my cousin has posted their memorials. I hope this helps, it's the best I can do. If you go to Brigance Family Tree by briganceron2, on Ancestry.com, you can check out these things with a more accurate set of records....sometimes, in trying to rememberate this stuff, I get some of the dates wrong. But, I have tried to document what I can, and the rest is conjecture...either my own, or things I've taken from the family trees of others...or wild guesses in some instances...Like Rosetta Maynard being a phantom person! I know none of My Aunts, who most likely provided the Information on Cora Lucy's and Albert Walter's Obituaries, ever met Cora's Mom. They weren't born yet. Cora, herself, may not have had too much time with her Mom. Born in 1887, that's less than 13 years, even if her Mom didn't pass on until early 1900. And, Mary was born in 1889, but we don't know for sure to whom. Was it the same Mother as Cora's, or not? Cora, herself, may have only known her mother for a short time. Rosetta Mulkey...Rosetta Maynard? I just don't know, could have been a mistake in memory....but, it made Mr. Albert Henry Brigance's Book, "Brigance Genealogy". And, now, it's almost like set in stone. And I have nothing to "prove" anything different. So,Earl, your guess is probably as good as mine...except, I know how little was handed down to me,and how little was spoken of our family's ancestors and history, and to me, a mistake just doesn't seem that far fetched. I sure would like to find the truth of it, tho. So that I could set the record strait for my offspring...and not leave them to have to wonder.
