I had an aunt Isabel who was my fathers sister. She lived her life in the Cambridge area and passed away some her ago. Her married name was Kuzac. I am four generation canadian apperantly,I do recall my father saying the family came from Rose England? My father and his brother Ron are buried in Tara ON which is only a few miles from Sauble I'm sure you would find that Brighams are buried in Tara not Hepworth.I do not know where my Grandfather Frank is buried as he had passed when I was a very young boy and i have no recolection of him. He was though a blacksmith and did move around to work so he could well have been on Manitoulin Island. I do not recall any great uncles called John or William. Hope this is of some interest.

Hi Doug:

What you have written about your BRIGHAM family in Canada is interesting, especially since I found on census records that there were BRIGHAMS living at one time on Manitoulin Island, and so began researching them. I did not find find any BRIGHAM graves on the island, but there are some in Bruce/Grey counties of Ontario including if I remember correctly Hepworth / Sauble Beach.

I am descended from Isabella BRIGHAM, daughter of John BRIGHAM and Mary OLIVER who were born in Kyloe / Holy Island which is in the border region (England/Scotland) of Northumberland England.

There are several others in Canada who are descended from Isabella's younger brother William BRIGHAM.

Would be interested in connecting with you further. Do you know where in England your BRIGHAMS originally came from?

Marina
Ontario, Canada

Hope this is of some interest to you.
regards Doug Brigham

Re: Brigham Band

Well, my father-in-law, Frederick Irving Brigham, lived in Chicago when he was a young man. He would mention the Brigham Band, and that it played at the Chicago World Fair. His 1st cousin was George W. Brigham. His brother was Ralph Brigham, All of the children of Fred and Ralph were born in Massachusetts, most in or near Framingham. Ralph had about 8 children, Fred, 4; the first child, a son, from his first marriage was raised by his maternal grandmother (and hidden from his father) and she must have legallly adoopted him as he goes by that name. I have found this man and his family, or rather, they have found me--through this board, My father-in-law was at sea on a whaling vessel, and his 1st wife died of tuberculos while he was a t sea--thus the maternal grandmother-who did not like her son-in-law--took the child. There is more to this story.
I do own the Brigham Family History, pub 1907, so I will look for the names you mention.
Carole cjh5335@msn.com

George F. Brigham (1827-after 1910)

I am researching this family - is anyone else?
My interested stems from George F's wife Aurilla DOUGLASS -

They were from NY, then moved to Chicago, with some staying on, others in Genesse county, NY, Walworth Co., WI, and still searching for the others.

George F. Brigham (1827-after 1910) m. Aurilla E. Douglass (1829-1904)
children:
Edmund Douglass Brigham (abt 1856-1921 IL)
Fanny Risley Brigham (1858-1860, NY)
Sarah Brigham (1860-?)
Fanny Amelia Brigham (1860? - bef 1930 WI)
George Brigham (1863-?)
Susie Brigham (1865-1865 - IL)
Henry H Brigham (1868-1930 - NY)

I found this on a fredonia, ny site: The specially-trained telegraph operators manning the station were Messrs. CORNELL and COBB. CORNELL may have been the company’s specialist brought in to train the local operators because he was gone pretty quickly. However, Emery COBB continued for some years. Early in 1849 he was joined by George F. BRIGHAM, just 21, grandson of Elijah RISLEY and son of James and Fanny (RISLEY) BRIGHAM. The telegraph office apparently began as very much a family affair.

thank you!
Julie
sunnydaze1@hotmail.c

What was the name of the Brigham? Did you guys say Harry? I've got some Brigham's from NY, that moved to Chicago, with some staying on.

George F.
Thanks for the fast response. GERTRUDE FAIR BRIGHAM was my Grandmother. I have her down as being born on 30 March 1880 and died on March 1971. Cremated in Hawick. She married my grandfather Louis Charles Ruffmann. I also have him as born on the 30th March 1880 so one of them is probably wrong.
Gertrude was from Westoe, South Shields ?

Thanks
Alastair Ruffman. No second N in the surname since 1915 due to deed pole change and name sounding too Germanic.
I have an old family register (probably from a Bible) that lists Bryant Brigham (b. 10 Feb 1794), his 2 wives (Dudley and Smith) and 6 children (John Dexter, Levi Edward, Edmund Reed, Jane Sophia, Mary Elizabeth, and Susan Smith). It has a complete set of marriage and birth dates and some death dates as well as 2nd wife's (Smith) parents. If anyone out there thinks this is in their tree, I'll be happy to send it to them upon sufficient i.d./links. I hate to just throw it away, but it doesn't fit into any of my trees.

Thanks June for your inquiry. Although none of these names "connect" to the direct line of my late ex-husband, there is probably a connection as the Brigham famiily was large and produced many descendants. If these are descendants of Thomas Brigham who married Mercy Hurd who settled near Boston about 1630, then you should get into a library which has the Brigham genealogy book and do some research with notebook and pencil in hand.
I don't know where you are located but the New England Historic Genalogical Society is a wonderful source. It is on-line, but does have yearly dues.Type in NEHGS and you'll find it on-line.
By the way, I recently found that I am descended from Mercy Hurd and her first husband Deacon Edmund Rice through a maternal line. The Brigham-Hurd union had several "his, hers, and ours" children, and some of the step-siblings married. This is not the only connection between my late ex and I as we also have a 9th generation, once replaced cousin connection through his paternal line and my maternal line. This makes our kids their own cousins. I find this is not all that unusual in families with lineage from the early Puritan ancestors. I have documented that I am maternally descended from the Hardy-Howe-Bailey-Rice families. My direct email is CJH5335@aol.com. I live in southeastern NH. Thanks again. Sorry I cannot be of any direct help.
Carole
Nathan Brigham and Elizabeth Howe

Greetings!
I have two conflicting sources for Elizabeth Howe, daughter of Isaac Howe and Frances Wood Howe of Sudbury, MA.
According to the Howe Genealogies, Elizabeth Howe, b. 17 Jan 1673 d. 29 Mar 1733 married a Bellows and had quite a few children.
According the The History of the Brigham Family (pg. 1_85), this Elizabeth married Captain Nathan Brigham of Marlborough b. 17 Jun 1671 d. 16 Feb 1745.
Does anyone have some source information - or access to marriage records for this relationship?

Without any dates, this is a little difficult. I found a reference for the death of a Benjamin F. Brigham:

Benjamine F. Brigham
date of death: 14 Apr 1895
place of death: Windsor, Eaton, Michigan
born: approx. 1831
father's name: Aaron Brigham
mother's name: Emma Brigham
occupation: mason

This could then fit an 1860 census listing of B. F. Brigham, living in Lawrence, Van Buren Count, Michigan. This listing shows three child age children with B. F. Brigham (age 35/38?), Martha (age 19), Jessie (age 2), Bellmont (age 1).

The family next door in 1860 is also named Brigham (though much of western Michigan in this era was named Brigham...). The family next door is E. A. Brigham (age 31), Sarah (age 26), Clarence (age 5), Ella (age 2), Adelbert (?, male age 5 months).

Brigham Family History, Volume II, page 2-39 corrects the facts in volume I for Capt. Nathan Brigham. In the preceding pages are described the reason for the correction, but Volume II lists Elizabeth Maynard, daughter of John Maynard Jr. and Mary Gates as the wife of Capt. Nathan. Hopefully this helps clarify the situation for you.

Mike

I am always seeking Brighams - anywhere in the world - for inclusion in my one name study (ONS). In time, my research will start to appear online at brigham.org.uk - but don't go rushing off there just yet, there is little to see just now.

Gedcom files are the prefered format for family histories but I can deal with just about anything you use to store your data in.

Anotated pictures/photographs are also very welcome. Anything Brigham related; people, places, family bible records, documents, medal cards; anything that can be photographed or scanned really.

I have also recently launched a world-wide Brighams DNA page within Ancestry which can be reached from brigham.org.uk should you wish to join.

Best wishes and happy hunting!

Looking for the surname Brigham in Maywood IL (Cook Co) in the 1940s. Specifically, I am looking for a woman named "Mae Brigham". Perhaps "Mae" (or May) was a nickname. Any leads on this mystery person would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

You might want to check the names. I also am related to a Polly Brigham of Marlboro, MA, only she married Benjamin Carroll of Hopkinton, who promptly relocated to Vermont. I have fairly good documentary evidence.
