George Washington Brigman

Does anyone have info on George Washington Brigman born 1820-1840 in SC? He was married in 1866 to Martha Ann Neal born in NC. They had several children one of which is Joseph Syrus Brigman (my ggrandfather) I have been unable to confirm who George's Mom and Dad were. George shows up on someone's Family tree under John Washington Strong Brigman but I am pretty sure this is a mistake. He is not a child of JWSB. Any info would be much appreciated

Crystal Brigman Keller

I have not found her father, nor much information since then, but Lucy Walden has an extensively researched geneaology. Has anyone ever heard of Mettie or Martha?

Margaret Brigman b.1816-1873

I can't find John before 1850 census. He married in 1846 in Union County. John Brigman was present at the marriage license of Margaret Brigman and John Arant b. 1825.
Margaret Brigman had a daughter prior to wedding. She was Emmaline Brigman b.1833-36. I do not know if this child was born out of wedlock to Margaret OR Margaret married a Brigman and had a child. Emmaline married John Wesley Threatt, buried at Zoar Methodist SC (John W. Threatt b.1836). Emmaline's child was Fannie Arant Threatt (strange, but she named her Arant after her step-father).
It has been said that Johnb b.1825 lived with the Brigman's and married one of the daughters. Elders say that John had a lot of land and the Brigmans was an oasis in the center. Therefore, he married the daughter, Margaret. CAN anyone help me with the Brigman connection. Brigmans were living in Union County, NC at the time the marriage license was signed. John was 21 and Margaret,30, was nine years older when they married. John's stepdaughter, Emmaline, was 17 at the time. Emmaline says that she was born in SC, her mother Margaret was born in NC.
Margaret and John had a daughter together Nancy Bell in 1848, born in SC.

Can anyone help me with the Arant/Brigman connection? Please look at my other postings under Arant board on John Arant's family.

I have done some pretty extensive research over the years and have acquired quite a lot of information, although I am still attempting to match who goes with whom. If any of you would have information on these people could you please contact me. My research began with my mother Theresa Diane Brigman...I have gone as far as what I believe to be her Great Great Great Grandfather Dr John Washington Strong Brigman...I am still matching children and some of the others but have come a long way. Sure is confusing..any help from anyone greatly appreciated.

more information on SC Brigmans

William Edward Brigman was part Cherokee, so I am told and was married the first time to Laura A. Carter. They were from the area in SC that is called Little Rock close to Dillian. They had several sons, one was my Granddad, Willie Foster Brigman, there was also JB, don't knw what that stands for, we always called him Uncle B. I think the other son's name was Elevett, hope that is spelled right. There were some girls but the only one I heard my mother speak of was Bessie and she was married to a Saxon. My Grandmother told me that William Edward moved his family to Ga. in the late 1800 or early 1900. He was sent by the company he worked for to teach the S.Ga.to teach the residents here to build tobacco barns and how to cure tobacco. His boys were grown at this time. After moving here his wife Laura died and he went back to SC to find another wife and married a woman by the name of Ida or Ada, don't know her last name. He moved her to Ga. and they had three sons. the oldest was William Edmond. When William Edward died Ada moved her three small sons back to SC where she raised them. If anyone knows anything about the Brigman's in the area around Dillon SC please e-mail at fjc39@hotmail.com. I am told that William Edward was part Cherokee. Thanks Juanit Cox

Hi, my friend Rachel was given up for adoption when she was six months old and has never met any of her birth family. Her mother's name was Alberta Mae George and her father's name was Coleman Ray Brigman. By doing just an hour of research tonight, I found she has at least one sister, Janet Marie Brigman, and at least 3 half sisters, daughters of Coleman Brigman. If anyone has any information that can help me reunite her with members of her family, please post here and we can get in touch. Thanks!

Thanks!!

Isaac BRIGMAN 1870 Robeson Co., NC help?

I am searching for information on the Isaac BRIGMAN household found in the 1870 Robeson Co., Census

Isaac BRIGMAN m Caroline
I am most interested in these children ((although there are others in the household))
Thomas age 14
Sally age 14
Ann age 12
Sarah age 10

It looks like Thomas and Sally might be twins. Age listed as the same?
I am mainly interested in the Sally OR Sarah lines?

They are not listed in the Isaac Household in 1880 and Isaac is deceased at that time.

I have gg grandmother Sallie Ann BRIGMAN m John JUSTICE
no dates available. But their first born is 1877 and his name is Zasherian((possible miss spelling)). She also had a set of twins.

I have not been able to find the BRIGMAN/JUSTICE household yet.

My g grandmother is a child of this marriage. I have the documention of her being born in 1881 in Lumberton, Robeson Co., and later lived in Richmond Co.,

Any help with those family members would be appreciated.
Thanks
Diana

Mary Brigman Dearman's Mother???

Dear Billy,

Found these entries which might prove helpful, although I stress that this may not be what you are loking for. Since there were several Thomas Brigmans during this era in NC over several generations, I am only passing these on on theories at best.

Colonial Bertie Co. NC 1720-1757

Deed Book A-H, Source Bucky Brigman

1728 Bertie Precinct: 10/28/1728 (11/28/1728 recorded)

Thomas and Elizabeth Brigman sold 335 acres to John Gibson for 15 pounds for land on NS Casety Swamp and NES Watton Swamp, Witnesses: James Murray, Thomas Rodes, Thomas Brigman

Note: This does not actually say wife. Could of course have possibly been another family connection.

Mary Brigman Dearman's oldest child is listed in some records as Elizabeth Dearman although Thomas's wife is listed as unknown.(http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com) Searches on Thomas Brigman, Mary Brigman, and Dearman will net quite a few results.

Mary also had a brother Thomas, possibly the Thomas captured by British at age 17 during Revolutionary War as those dates would seem to coincide.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

?Thomas Brigman of NC and descendants

I have a Thomas Brigman, believed to be my gggg grandfather, of Anson Co.,NC, b. early 1700's,d.1774, with children Joshua, Thomas, Mary, William, and Isaac. He lived and owned land between present-day Rockingham and Hamlet(now in Richmond Co.) An Isaac Brigman, b. abt. 1746, d.1811, emerges in Marion and Marlboro Cos., SC, about 1790-1800, which is when the Anson Co. Isaac disappears from NC records, leading me to suspect they are one and the same. Isaac's will, recorded in Marlboro Co. 3 Oct.1811, names his wife Fearby and children Mary, John, Malachi, Moses, Isaac, Solomon, Sary, Thomas, and Lewis. I descend from Malachi on my maternal grandmother's side and (probably) from Thomas on my maternal grandfather's side. Malachi, b. 1792/4, d. 1857, lived in Marlboro Co. near present-day Brownsville. I have copies of Isaac's and Malachi's wills, available to those who query.

I need information on a Marion Co.,SC, Thomas Brigman(ie. who his parents were), b. abt. 1800, d. 1860-70. His wife's name was Melissa(sometimes Malesa and Malicia in Census Records), wih children named Aroline,Jane, Isaac, Eliza Brigman McKenzie(my g grandmother), Benjamin, Laura, Thomas(T.J.), and Joseph or Josiah. I believe this Thomas(Sr.) to be the Thomas, son of Isaac, mentioned in Isaac's will, but I need independent confirmation of this. Help!

Brigman, Lloyd James

I have just started researching information about the Brigman family on behalf of my three children - Benny Lee Brigman, Rita Elizabeth Brigman and Lloyd James Brigman. Their father's name is Benny Lee Brigman who has two living sisters - Jolene Sorrells and Velma Faye Vitabile. A brother Lloyd James Brigman passed away in 1994 in Ashe or Buncombe County NC. My children's grandparents were Lloyd James Brigman and Carcie Faye Brigman of Asheville, NC. Lloyd was born in May 1902 and passed away in Dec 1967. Lloyd had a sister Bonnie Fletcher. Lloyd worked at the Enka factory most of his life. Both Lloyd and Carcie were buried in Asheville. In an obituary, I have found information that Lloyd's mother, Hester Brooks Brigman died at the age of 85 on 3/9/60. She had been a native of Buncombe County and was the widow of Frazier Brigman. Services were from Bent Creek Baptist Church. I have reached a wall as far as gaining any new information for Frazier and Hester. We are interested in tracing the Brigman family first, but would welcome any info about either side of the family. Please e-mail me at pengelly@uplandcds.org.
