ATTENTION ALL: SCAM USING THIS MSG BOARD FOR INFO
Hello Brignacs...
My name is Reed Brignac, and I think I have information that you should all know about.
I was solicited (thru email) by someone calling himself Bello Akpunku. He claims to be the personal attorney of a Mr. Patrick Brignac. He claims that Mr. Patrick Brignac and his immediate family died in a car accident in the Togo-Republic. He says that they have no other immediate family members and that I have inherited $20.5 million dollars!!!
Good for me, huh? haha
Anyhow, I played along (I have a lot of downtime on my job)...and responded to his email. He replied by inviting me to call him at a number OUTSIDE US BORDERS.
My company is constantly warning us of these types of scams. Typically, when you get some sort of ludicrous email like this, and they want you to call a number outside of the USA, it's a scam. The number is similar to one of our 900 numbers...but they can set the rate at ANYTHING they want. They charge extremely high per/minute fees...and they typically find some reason to put you on hold. You will be responsible to your phone company for these fees afterward.
I wanted to warn everyone. I'm sure he must've gotten my email address from this message board, as I haven't posted it anywhere else. He said he "found me through the internet".
Has anyone else received this claim by email? If you did, reply here, or better yet, email me. reed.m.brignac@erac.com
Thanks,
Reed
