Hello,

Just read message. Thank you for info. Is your tree private or public?

We looked at the transcript of the marriage at Cambridge. Are you saying that if we ask to see the actual records we might gain more information? The church no longer exists as far as I can find and was in the middle between Cambridge and Bedford. Most relatives seem to be in Bedford.

How is your research going?

Lovely to hear from you.

Regards
Nicola

Hi Nicola,

Jasper (John ?) Brin married Elizabeth Clarke 17 MAY 1779

East Hatley . The church incumbent might have a copy of marriage ,which might mention Jasper 's fathers name .

I can only guess from his children names Jasper's father was either John, George, Simeon or Henry or Joseph .

I am also descended from Jasper ,though William and Sarah Miller , Simeon and Emma Wright , William Robert and Ann Sarah King, Robert william Fred Harry and Alice Thersa Anstey ,Pamela Joy Brim was my mother , My name is also Nicola ,My father was Jo Reilly .

Happy to help fill a few gaps

Thank you Nicola

None of the names you mentioned sounds familiar, except for Love Brim. Was this a male, and if so, did he go by "Lovie"? I met a Love Brim back in June 1996 when my mother was in the hospital in Little Rock Arkansas. We compared notes and did not think we were related. My father was born in Wilmot Arkansas in Feb 1932. Not sure if any of this sound familiar.

Unless someone has very similar interests to you, you will probably get a better response if you could give us some more information, such as country, county/state or town and any other dates or family that you know about.

Can you also be more specific in what you are looking for.

Rosemary

I have traced back to Jasper and Elizabeth Brin marrying in 1779 in East Hatley, Cambridgeshire. Jasper and Elizabeth were parents of William born 1780. I am unable to trace any further back on Jasper Brin. I have searched Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire archives and not found anything. Any help on what to do next would be appreciated or anyone researching the same family and any info they have would also help.

Hi Doug,

I'm very interested in what you wrote about Frederick Brim and Rev. William Wallace Brim. I am trying to trace my tree as well and have gotten as far back as Joseph Brim b. about 1783-1787. He married Gilah Bowman in 1809 in Patrick County, VA. After his death, there was a religious type robe found in his trunk (so the story goes, anyway) and I wonder if there could be any type of a connection with these Brims. I haven't been able to find out where he was born or who his parents were. I don't know what country these Brims were from originally. Most of the line now lives in Virginia and North Carolina. Can you share any further information with me, or suggest where I might look? Thank you so much.
Julie

Hi, I have traced my tree to Joseph Brim b. about 1787 and married Gilah Bowman in 1809 in Patrick County, VA. I haven't been able to find out where he born. He had a son named William Brim who married Mahala Arrington in VA or NC. I am very interested in any information you may have on the Brim line and when they came to this country. It had to have been around the same time period you mentioned, as I can not find anything further back. There is a place in Scotland called Brim's Ness, but I haven't been able to link them to Scotland. Do you have any idea where the family came from originally? Thank you so much.
Julie

My great grandfather last name is Brim , out of Georgia (Burke Co). There are a lot of us thur out the east coast, Flordia to New York and Ohio. West coast also. It surprised me to find out we had/have white Brims in the family even though I knew some that was married into the name. I guess what I'm really tring to get at is if Brim is a slave name? I thought Brim was an Indian name. Could anyone clear this up for me? I do know that it's a very powerfull name and I love being a Brim. We have very strong genes, and strongly beleive in reproduction.

Re: Brim Family - Indiana

Marty,
I think John was the father. I find John Brim in the 1830 Parke County census with his wife and 2 boys-1<5 and 15 to 10. He is 30-40 and his wife is 20-30. They are in the 1840 Parke Cty Census with 2 boys 5-10 1 10-16 1 16-20 father 40-50 and 2 girls under 5 with Mother 30-40. John is not on the 1850 census in Indiana because the ones that are showing on the census were there in 1840 too. Elmore-who was one of the under 5 in 1840 is in Vermillion County in 1850 with another family-Jamison as a chair maker. (there was a Cynthia and Hugh Jamison living with Brims in a later census so they must be related. I think Indiana was with another family and I'll have to look again but Mary was with another family too. Wonder if the father died and the mom remarried or both parents died. Wlmore was in Tremont Tazewell County Illinois with 2 children by 1860 and died in 1861 leaving 3 children and one born a few months after he died (she also died soon after birth).
I went to Roseville last summer. There is only a covered bridge, a bar/restaurant, and a cemetery left. No Brims in the cemetery. Rockville library has a little information on Roseville in their library.
Will need to go back through my information and check Houck, Trout, Boatmans, & Wrights.
Please stay in touch.

Hi Diane, it has been a while since we have connected. I haven't done very much with the Brim family but going thru my notes I did find that Joseph Wright (husband to Indiana Brim ) died June 1, 1900. in Vermillion Co., IL and Indiana is listed as the "head" of her household. From the informantion about her youngest child, they had moved to Illinois by Sept. 1882. 1900 Vermillion Co., IL, Danville Twp, Danville City, ward 6 ED#74, June 1, 1900, page 15A/308, 315/349 show them living at 524 Grant St. It shows Wright, Indiana-head-Marach 1843-57widow-had 10 children/7 living-IN Scotland Germany. Two living at home Mansel-son-March 1877-23 single-IN IN IN-teamster and Julie-dau-Sept. 1882-17-single-IL IL IL. You may already have this information. Have you found the names of Indiana & Mary's parents? I found a John Brim is 1830 with 3 white males at home. The Trout family is related to my Howk family. Virgil Trout married Emma Valentine in April 19, 1901. She was a sister to my ggrandmother, Susan. Martha Wright could have married into the Trout family. She was married more than once. The Brim, Valentine, Wright and Howk family seems to be intertwined. The Brims & Howks were related as Mary Ellen Brim (b.2/14/1841-d.1888) was the 1st wife of my ggrandfather, Pleasant. I hope some of this will help. I feel that your Brim ancesters and mine are connected. Marty Johnson

I have seen a lot of your postings and wondered if you will check your information to see if you have any Indiana or Illinois Brims that might help me get past my brick wall. My gggrandfather Elmore Brem/Brim was born in Roseville, Parke County, Indiana around 1838/9. There was a John, Phillip, William, Susannah and children Indiana & Mary in the area around that time. Elmore is on the census in Vigo county in 1850 as a chairmaker in the household of Henry Jamison. Elmore and Mary Jane PIPPIN married 30 Aug 1857 in Tremont, Tazwell Cty, Illinois. Elmore died in June 1863 at Sherman's Landing, LA. He was 25 years old. His children were my ggrandfather, Highland Elmore Brim (born on 6 Jun 1860 Tazewell Cty., IL), Angeline Brim (born on 3 Jun 1859 Tremont Twp, Tazewell Cty., IL), Sarah Elizabeth Brim (born on 22 Apr 1861 Tazewell Cty., IL), and Mary D. Brim (born on 10 Jan 1863 Tazewell Cty., IL - died on 10 Oct 1863 in Tazewell Cty., IL)
In the 1870 Illinois census for Tremont, Tazwell Cty, he is living with a Barnum family and his younger sister Sarah Elizabeth and mother are living with Richard Pippin (their grandfather/mom's dad). Their older sister Angeline is living in the home of Martha Trout.
My gfather Emory Layton Brim was born in Brokenbow, NE. in 1898 to Hyland and Ella Jane FRANCIS BRIM. The Hyland Brim family was in Canada from 1901-June 1909 and in Laclede & Texas County, MO 1910, 1920, & 1930.
Any help would be appreciated.
Dianna Watson Sheldon
dlsheldon@bresnan.net or rsheldon@gjmesa.com

I thought I found him as a young boy 1850 Reynolds County, living in Missouri by then, so they wouldn't have met as adults in Tennessee then. I have sent for his pension records so maybe that will tell us something for sure too.

Here is something to think about. In the 1880 census Mary Jane is living with her husband Wesley Alexander Middleton and her age there is listed as being abt 49 years old. I did more research and found her birth year as 1844 so I thought the 1880 one was a census taker error. So hmmmm Idon't know what to think. I do know the family was in St. Francois County in 1880 though. I very interested to see what else you may find.
Okay thank you so much. Feel free to e-mail me at pstempfly@hotmail.com as well

I agree, then if the census records are consistent. But, I took a quick look on the St Francois county web site, and found a John Brim and a William Brimm there. (marriage records). My Mary J had brothers with those names, who I have lost track of. (I need to take another hard look at the records I have.)

I still beleive the 2 Mary J(anes) would be related. There was a large family of Brimms that came out of middle TN to West Tn in the 1840s and several of them moved on to Mo. I will dig a bit more and get back to you.
