Help with Brinkhoff / Brinkerhoff Family History

I am trying to learn more about the this side of my family. My great-grandma was Clara Brinkhoff who was born and lived in West Alexandria, Preble County, Ohio. She married Harry Kesling and had three children, one of which was my grandma. Below is some information I have:

Clara Brinkhoff
b. 04 Apr 1892, Preble County, Ohio
d. 25 Feb 19783, Preble County, Ohio
m. Harry Kesling

Herman H. Brinkhoff
b. 07 Oct 1864 (Germany)
d. 30 Dec 1929, Preble County, Ohio
m. Margaret Beneke

From what I konw Herman Brinkhoff had other children who used the last name Brinkerhoff. Trying to find information about the last name Brinkhoff is nearly impossible.

If anyone is able to help me find more information I would appreciate it. Also if there happens to be a link somewhere I have some pictures of Herman Brinkhoff and his wife which I could e-mail.

Thanks,
Kris

Too many Elizabeths - Too many husbands

Thank you, Edwin, for your assistance.

It is most logical that Elizabeth Ryder Brinckerhoff would be the daughter of Elizabeth Ryder and Teunis Brinckerhoff, as you indicate. However, the many listings in IGI show their daughter (Elizabeth Brinckerhoff without middle name) as born May 10, 1724, while the only two listings for Elizabeth Ryder Brinckerhoff give her birthdate as April 15, 1726 and do not identify her parents. This casts some doubt on whether these two Elizabeths are the same person.

From the IGI listings and Rootsweb listings, we find that one Elizabeth Brinkerhoff married John Fish in 1743. He lived till 1793. Elizabeth Ryder Brinckerhoff married Aaron Van Nostrand about 1747. Another Elizabeth married John de Rapalje about 1748. Another, the daughter of Abraham Brinckerhoff, married a younger Abraham Brinckerhoff, and then Matthew Coe in 1753.

What are we to make of all this? Perhaps your sources are more reliable?

Aaron Brinckerhoff Eliz. Duryee Fisher

Seeking information and documentation on the following Brinckerhoff line:

The on-line database, Gene Pool Individual Records. [database online] Provo, UT: Ancestry.com, 2000, compiled by Edmund West, includes information on Richard Duryee Brinckerhoff. This source states that Richard was born 15 March 1825 in New York City, and died there 29 September 1869, the son of Aaron Brinckerhoff and Elizabeth Mary Duryee Fisher; he is stated to have married 27 October 1850 in New York, to Sarah Ann Mitchell, born 15 January 1831, New York, New York, died 10 April 1897, Circleville, New York, daughter of Henry Mitchell and Augusta Secor. At least one son is noted in this database: Richard Duryee Brinckerhoff, born 16 October 1855, New York City.

Theodore Brinkerhoff, The Brin(c)kerhoffs of America 1641-1981:403(1984), notes that Aaron Brinckerhoff had four children by his first wife and one by Elizabeth Mary Duryee (widow Fisher), namely: Richard(6) Duryee Brinckerhoff, for whom no dates nor further trace are provided.

While this appears to be precisely the same family in both sources, what is needed is documentation; that is, the primary sources for the information provided.

Will be exceedingly grateful for any assistance in this regard,

Richard

Brin(c)kerhoff Book

The book you are seeking is "The Brinckerhoffs of America 1641-1981 by Rev. Theodore Brinckerhoff, published by
Brinc(k)erhoff History
3020 Dellwood Dr.
Kokomo IN 46902

At the time it was published, I believe that the cost was thirty five dollars. I do not know if it is still available. It is quite a large volume and very interesting but not always accurate. For instance, it assigned my great-grandfather six siblings that he did not have but failed to show his correct siblings. I have a copy of the book and would be glad to look up your family, if you wish.

BRINCKERHOFF Cemetery

There is a colonial cemetery in Fresh Meadows, Queens, New York which has been the subject of a recent lawsuit. A developer has tried to buy the land so that he can build two houses there.

The local homeowner's association (Fresh Meadows Homeowners Association) and the Queens Historical Society are fighting to purchase this land and preserve it.

If you are interested, I can provide more information.

J.
