Re: ASHEL OR ASEAL and susan Brines with a martha Preston in their household in 1860

Lorri,

You've probably got the name wrong - Ashel/Aseal should most likely be *Asahel* Brines, who Married *Susanna* Wood.

I've not dug into this very much, but I believe Susanna Wood had originally married one David Sprong Preston (who died in 1844 I believe) and had five children, one of whom was named Martha (Martha Ann Preston).

It seems Susanna married Asahel Brines after David Sprong Preston passed away, and she and Asahel had a child of their own.

Some of the details you give seem a bit off though, or we're talking about two different people.. I believe Martha Preston's siblings were Harriet(possibly your Henrietta?) Preston, George Preston, Sarah Lois Preston and David Preston.

I'm not sure about the husband though - William Ridgely.

I know there was a William Henry Ridgely, married to Hannah Reed Simmons, and *they* had a daughter Henrietta.. From the Wabash County area in illinois between 1817 and at least the 1850's.. But I don't really think that's what you're looking for.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I descend from Edw & Patience (Cook) through their son Russell and grandson Henry of Mt Carmel IL. I have quite a bit of info but still cannot find immigration records or date and place of birth. Edw lived in and owned land in Haddam CT beginning in 1770. He then moved to Windham CT where some of his children were enrolled in school. Next they moved to Friendship NY, then to Wabash County IL. I have been in touch eith another descendant of Roswell. Does any of this fit with what you have found? Like you, I think it is not easy to navigate this site. hope to hear from you. Carol

Gads, was that a fast reply! The Brines to whom I'm related is Clark Brines, born in northwestern Illinois in the 1860s. I think his father was Russell Brines. Clark married Mollie Smith, who was related to Julia Brines Parmenter of southeastern Illinois (Wabash County), neither Clark nor Mollie having known that when they married. They moved to Saint Louis around 1900 and then to central Missouri in the 1920s. Clark died in the 1950s and Mollie in the 1960s. My maternal grandfather was Grant Parmenter, grandson of Julia Brines Parmenter.

Gads, was that a fast reply! Yes, I would love to see your e-mail photo. Your photos of the Brines family from the 1800s may be like mine, ones that I found in library archives. It may take me until the weekend to gather my Brines photos together and e-mail them to you. The Brines to whom I'm directly related is Clark Brines. Clark was born in northwestern Illinois in the 1860s. He married Mollie Smith, who was related to Julia Brines Parmenter of southeastern Illinois, neither she nor Clark having known that when they married. Clark and Mollie moved to central Missouri in the 1920s.

The Brines family was living in Saint Louis by the early 1900s and central Missouri by 1930. Julia Brines of Wabash County married Albert Parmenter, of the same county, in the late 1800s. I show him married to Carrie Gregg in 1896 and then 1920 and 1930 census show him married to Clara.
I have been told she is Clara Miles, daughter of Hannah Winn and John Miles.
Hi Janice,
Thank you for your reply. Send me your e mail address and I will send you my mailing address. The research that I have was done by more than one person and I was given the results long ago. The only difference I see is her birth year but its not too far off. I do not know where this all came from so your birthday is probably the most accurate. I show that Lois was born in 1809. Whoever found it may haave thought the 7 was a 9. Easy mistake in the old writing style.
I show that Demmon was born July 28,1808 in Ireland and died 8-12-1855 in St. Clair, Michigan. I also show his death on 9-12-1855. Again I do not know which is correct.
Demmon settled in Vermont after arriving from Ireland and changed his name to Brines from O'Brien. There children were:
Demmon b.5-30-1840;d.4-22-1924
John b.1-1-1829; d.9-18-1864
Henry b.5-24-1831 in Rochester,N.Y.
d.8-25-1903
Martha b..2-23-1833 Rochester,N.Y.
d.7-25-1917 Starville,St. Clair,
Michigan
Charles b.3-12-1836 Rochester
d.12-23-1858
George b.9-28-1838 Rochester
d.12-28-1882
Ruben b.12-23-1842 Rochester
d.5-6-1897
Joseph b.4-3-1845 Rochester
d.1-18-1859
James b.3-18-1847 Rochester
d.11-15-1934
Mary b.7-20-1849 New York
d.5-28-1936

I am descended from Demmon Jr. who married Marion Hayward, daughter of Zenas Hayward and Catherine Pillsbury.
I am leaving for China 5-27 for an extended period of time so if you could mail me any Lois Osborne information (i.e. parents, etc.) before then, I would appreciate it. If you want any more information about descendants of Demmon Jr. I can mail to you also .
Thank you for replying.

So good to hear from you Barbara, and hope you are feeling well as well. thanks. I have had some health problems.
I guess i am not the only brines who forgets things, as i haven't gotten lots of info from people i have made LONG distance phone calls to over years too. I am sorry not to have kept my word of 2 months ago but I do have many things i have to do too. I do spend great deal of time doing research and following up on it as well and not getting any replies back. Anyway enough of this, i would be glad to send this material to whomever you wish me to send it. I may have contacted this person already, it may even be my cousin.
All I have to do is paste a new mailing label on it, so let me know.
Have a good day .
Frank
I do not have time to copy all that material. Please keep your word this time. I'm sure you're a nice guy, but I'd like to see the evidence of it. Thanks. Barb.

N.Y. late 1700s then to Conn and westward to Ill and?? I would like to communicate with any and all who can provide me with the info they have on Brines family. I have engaged in a long tedious task of attempting to trace as many as I can and recreate the family history as thorough as possible. Thank you all

I am the guilty cousin mentioned here, and I REALLY do apologize for my procrastination. I have had this material ready to return to you Barbara and will do so in the next month.. I do have some more info and would like to know if we are following each other in our research. Like you I have not been here for a LONG time and am finding so many dead ends that any progress seems unlikely.,but I remain hopeful that some where there will be a break through. My 95 year old aunt tells me many stories about my immediate relatives and her life in early 1900s. Barbara if you will let me know if I can help you with my info please let me know what you would desire along that line and I PROMISE i wiull be in touch sooner.
