William H. and Jefferson Davis Brinkley

I looking for information on William H. Brinkley born abt. 1835 in Coffeeville, MS Yalobusha CO. He married Martha Price and had two children Jefferson Davis and Joe Brinkley. Rumor has it that after the Civil War he told his family that he was dead and starated a new life in Ark. Hope some one can help unravel this mystery.
