Hi Dominique
I guess we will agree to disagree.
I respect your point of view but one cannot trust such records as the end all of truth. Much has been left out. We must be careful not to discourage people from searching for their roots, especially those in Quebec.
At best we must always qualify our references by saying that they could be incorrect, false or estimated.....and from these, this is what we think is possible but not entirely the true.
I can only imagine the Frenchmen who came to this country to find the most beautiful and uninhibited women who were willing to copulate at the drop of a hat without official permission and without regrets! Imagine the sudden freedom from the centuries of domination by culture and indoctrination. (though they may have suffered some guilt)
I have linked onto the records site that you provided. I wasn’t able to cross link Jeanne de voisy to verify that she was born in France. The information that has been provided is suspect.
First it says that the couple were married in 1632 and you say “most probably in the vicinity of Gallardon”
What’s wrong with this is someone has “guesstimated” that the pair were married in 1632. And you “guesstimated” something else. If the archive had found records in France the full date would have been provided including who the parents were.
secondly, if this information is suspect then the whole record is suspect.
The onus on this archive, if it is to be official, is to provide a copy of the marriage record with all pertinent information to validate what has been provided.
Thirdly the French sir name De Voisy is even suspect. No information on it.
All I can get out of this website is that the names are “probably” correct but nothing else.
As for French archives, what a maze!!!! I would find it more preferable to contact the church directly and obtain copies.
From my point of view and other Metis researchers it will always be a matter of "agreeing to disagree"
