In your post of April 28, 2002 you ask about Strangeman Stanley. It is such an unusual name - and I remembered reading something about it. In the "History of North Carolina" (sorry I don't have the author) there is an article on John T. Brittain. On page 163-- "Samuel Brittain, Jr. was the grandfather of JOhn T. Brittain ---He married Jemimah Stanley--who was a daughter of Strangeman Stanley, who married a Miss Farrington, daughter of Nathaniel Farrington. Nathaniel was a Revolutionnary soldier and was one of the giants of his tinem standing seven feet tall and of great strength---Jemimah survived her husband several years and amoved to Indiana where she died in 1874. She reared 7 children - John M., Henry M., Marian F., Harmon, Cyrus, Naomi and Julia."
This is a very good article on JOhn T. and I will copy and email to you if you wish.
