James Brixey or Brixy was in the Civil War, Company H, 8th Regiment, MSN Calvery Volunteers. We know that he is a native american. He was a bugler. I do have a picture. We think he was full blooded Cherokee. His original Surname was (Silvey). According to family history he changed his name after an incident concerning a stollen horse and the death of someone. He or someone was eventually cleared of this crime, but the Brixey name stayed. His son was J. Garfield Brixey. We think he is the great great grandfather to Annie Vee Otha Brixey who was born in 1910. Locality of the family seems to primarily be in Perry County Arkansas. We do know that he or his son lived on a reservation and were registered as native american. Possibly Choktaw (spelling??). Any info would be greatly appreciated.
