Thanks,
Then one of your cousins works where I do. Her ex-husband works in the same shop I do and told me about the relation. I spoke with her today and she told me the infant is her aunt. But otherwise I don't know how she fits in the family tree. She didn't have time for a a talk. I took pictures of all the markers if you would like to have them for your webpage.

Gene

Cemetery name needed

I'm trying to find the name of a cemetery I discovered the other day. It's across the field behind Red Hill Baptist Church east of Poplarville south of Highway 26 on Red Hill Church Rd. If you stand at the west entrance to the cemetery there, and look directly south, you can see headstones in a fenced off area.
The names of the people buried there are:
Narcisus Elizabeth Broadus
J W Broadus
Fred W Broadus
Inf Dau Broadus
Jane Johnson
William W Johnson
Harriet D Simms Dearmon
The oldest burial is Harriett in 1882. The Broadus are related to the ex-wife of one of my co-workers.
My great grandfather was John Martin Broadus, born 1852 in KY. He married F. Mary Rial in Indiana I think in 1895; she was half his age. She abandoned him and four children early the next century, and passed around 1940 from pneumonia. I'm trying to find more about his parents, John and Matilda, and his wife's ancestors. I think that the Rials were from KY.

I am related to the Broadus/Broaddus family of Madison and Garrard counties. At one time there were a large number of this family in these two counties. My branch stayed mainly in Garrard County however, when the family moved to Kentucky from Virginia I believe they first settled in Madison County. The family spelled the last name both ways.

I have a Bertha Belle Broaddus born June 29, 1903 and died July 26, 1984. This would seem to fit into your time frame. Do you have any information on the land owner around 1900? Do you know if anyone has transcribed the writings on the wall?

I will try and gather some more info on this site. I may have some information on it in my paper files.

Thank you for posting the pics. Any plans on the cabin?

Sorry this is such a horribly late reply, but yes, my Mary Broadus did marry Charles Jones. They were my ggrandparents. Their daughter Mary is my grandma. I have further info about Mary Broadus' maternal side, but not much about the Broadus side further back than that.

DNA Testing

There are three volunteers so far to have DNA testing to determine possible relationships in the Broadhurst (and variants, Broaddus, Bradhurst, etc.) known lines. Particularly important, we have not been able to obtain a volunteer from a male descenant in the line of William Broadhurst who married Elizabeth Townsend and had numerous descendants in Ohio and Michigan and still need a volunteer to be tested so that we can determine whether that William Broadhurst is the same William Broadhurst who was born in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire, England. The testing is very simple—it involves a swab from the inside of the cheek. There are numerous Broadhurst variants (Broadus, Bradhurst, etc.) whose relationships have not yet been determined but may be connected, and testing is necessary to determine whether and how those variants are related to a particular Broadhurst line. The point is that DNA testing can do more than years of research to help established the extent of interconnections. So we encourage more family historians to proceed with DNA testing.

I am trying to find out if any of the Broadus family from Kentucky might have migrated to Howard County Missouri. To a small town called Fayette. It appears a lot of Broadus family members now reside in that location and I beleive are all descendants of the Broadus family from Kentucky. My Great Grandfather's name was Anderson Broadus who was born in Kentucky possibly as a slave around the period of 1831. We also have some Gates family members living in the Howard County area as well.

He was born around the period of 1830 some his children names were Della, Harriet, Susan and Anderson Jr. I have noticed that a these particular names are very prominent within the Broadus family.

well this is an even later reply, lol
- when I asked for my ggggrandfather's marriage docs from Floyd Co., IN it came on a sheet with 2 other marriages on it. I just posted what I had. but there is a Rebecca (and it looks like) A. and I'm pretty sure the last name is BRODUS (no "a"). The wedding date is 24th Feb 1871. It looks like two different people filled out the sections (one requesting the license, the other the date of the ceremony) and I think I translated it correctly.
