Hi all,
My husband, John Broady, is the Great Grandson of the John Broady who went to New Zealand. I have put quite a lot of information on my tree, including pictures of headstones in Auckland.
John came to Sydney Australia in 1974, on the first stage of a world trip. 2010, and he is still in Sydney, although there have been several trips back to NZ. He now has a wife and 4 daughters.
From the little bits I have gleaned from the web about the Broadys, there have been a lot of metal workers /blacksmiths in the family. John Broady Snr began Broadys, a company that made coal ranges, and other similar appliances. His son, Arthur, and grandson, Doug, both continued on with the business. They once also owned a foundry as well, but that was lost after fraud by a dishonest accountant. Doug, Johns father, sold the last part of the business, and retired in about 1985, just before the resurgence of interest in coal ranges. "Broadys" is still in existence, in New Zealand, and still selling coal ranges etc. Although no longer owned by family. When I search on the internet just for Broady, there are a few businesses that come up. I wonder if they have been owned by part of this family, eg. Broadys flow control.
Johns 2 sisters do still live in New Zealand, one in the Bay of Plenty, and one in Auckland
I am excited to realise that we are all linked to the same family, I am interested in finding out as much as I can about the family. I have connected with some of you through Genes Reunited, but rarely visit that site, as Ancestry has much more available.
I am still trying to find out who the parents of Mary Broady were, and do we link in with the other Broady family. My email address is
jennybroady@optusnet.com.au if anyone has copies of photos or any other information, that we can share.
