Hi!

Well, Harry's sister Lily (1891 - 1963) was my great grand mother! She married John Shepherd.

Could you give me your e-mail address so that I can send you what I have about the Broadys and Spencers? But as I live in France, you probably have more information about the family than I do!!

Regards

Cécile Shepherd

Hi

Blimey yes it has been a while!!!! yes my Grandma was Ethel Broady, she died in 1977 in Ormskirk Hospital, she had been living with us for a year or so after selling the bungalow at Stockton Heath. My grandad Harry died at Bentley Lodge in 1962 I think it was, I remember going to see him, I was only 7, we had moved to Ormskirk by then.
My Dad was Owen Spencer Broady, he died in Feb 2005. He had a sister Barbra Broady who died in 1925 aged 18 months.

Which side of the family are you? The broadys or the Fords? (Ethel's maiden name) I have been doing the family tree since 1989 and I have both sides quite a way back, also the Spencers, on the Broady side.

There are only the Cowards in Frodsham and the twins, maragaet and Jeanne Garnett, that I know of still about.

It would be interesting to swap details.

Dot Hawkes

I have been looking for a Broady family member. There is a lost grave yard not far from Meadowview which is in need of restoration. Most of the headstones (that you can read are Broady)Most stones are knocked over and broken. The fence is down and cows rome in there. Some names are: J. W. Broady 6-12-1868, James- J.W. & N. G. Broady, another James Broady 4-9-1830 / 12-29-1900, Ellen J. Broady wife of John I think b. 1876 can't read death. William Simpson 5-30-1865/12-2-1904. Moses G. Caywood 3-12-1865/ 11-15-1934 (my great grandfather) I know more of the Caywoods are probally there too but the stones are damaged and broken.I was there for the first time two days ago. This cematery is high on a hill and you have to climb the hill and go through a cow paster to get there.
Hi Dot, I am so sorry to hear of your loss - it is incredibly hard isn't it. Losing my Dad was part of my motivation for getting into family history in the first palce. The funny thing is I always thought his family was from the Medway towns in kent but it turns out that only his father and uncles were born in Kent. His grandfather William and grandmother Lydia (nee Hough) came from Northwich and Middlewich. I have no photo's of my grandfatehr and no memory of what he looked like so I have no idea of whether my Dad looks anything like other Broady's. I would love to hear from you when you have time.

Dianne in Edmonton

I have a website at: www.broadyancestry.com which has what I do know though a lot is not authenticated yet. I tried typing Broady in a google search but didn't hit on mine. I would love to know more about my Cheshire Broady roots and especially love to see photo's of any ancestors. My grandfather died when I was very young and to be honest I don't remember him at all and have never seen a photo of him even. I have no idea of whether my dad looked like the Broady's or his mother's side of the family. Anyway enough waffle but please keep me in mind if you come across my lot (Joseph Broady and Lydia Hough were my great grandparents).

Thanks for the 1880 offer, but I am concentrating on connecting the early Broady Braudy, Brawdy Brody families in the Illinois area. My John Calvin Broady b 1812 Washington CoKY, enlisted Adams Co Il 1832 Blackhawk War, Married Anna Wigle Feb 11, 1836 in Adams Co. They lived in Liberty Township and your Richard seems to be primarily in Quincy. Several of John Calvin's sisters married to Collins or Collings were in the area. Watch out for those names as you research, and let me know if you find any connections.

Broady, Brawdy

I am primarily researching Joseph Broady and have run across multiple references to Richard Brawdy or Broady. There are two sites that delineate the known historyof the Broadys. Leon Wildes site about the Southern Maryland Broadys and Judith Wilson's site on Tribalpages about the Broadys.
Judith and I recently travelled to Adams Co Illinois to research several family lines. I ran across multiple entries for Richard Brawdy, Richard A. V. Brawdy, Israel and Caleb Brawdy. There were multiple land transactions and I didn't copy all of them. Richard Brawdy and his wife Rhoda sold two pieces of land in Adams Co. Illinois in July 1829.
Richard Brawdy died in late 1830 or 1831. There is an entry in the Adams Co. Illinois Probate index for Richard Brawdy(Dec'd), Arch Williams ADM., Nov 23, 1833. The county clerk was unable to locate this record- supposed to be in book 86. The LDS church has microfilmed many of the Adams Co records, so there may be a record of this. There is a record of a Richard Broady appearing in Chauncery court in October 1831.
Another Richard Broady was in Washington Co KY and died in late 1826. He appeared to live near my Joseph before Joseph moved to Scott Co Indiana before 1820. Joseph is Joseph Broddy in Scott Co 1820.
A son of Joseph, John Calvin Broady(b. 1812 in KY)My ggggrandfather, enlisted in the Blackhawk War in Adams Co in 1832. Several of Joseph sisters were married to Collins brothers and were in Adams Co in early 1830 or before.
This is all a long winded way of saying there are multiple clues here that the families are related. I think Richard and Joseph may be brothers. I will share what I have. Some of the microfilmed data and the deeds didn't copy perfectly. Pell

Re: Broady, Brawdy

I have a copy of that case and Richard Broady appeared in person and applied his mark on Oct 12, 1831. I have another entry in the Deeds book:.

"The People of the State of Illinois to all to whom these presents may come greeting know ye that Thomas O Anderson and Richard Brawdy having paid a tax of Three dollars for the year 1831 levied upon the fetty and hereby authorized and licenced to keep a ferry at the public landing in the Town of Quincy according to the law. They having given bond and security according to law. Witness: Henry A Snow, Clerk of the county commissioners court of said county at Quincy the 15th day of March 1831."

There may be another Richard or the date of death is off a bit.
I think made an error in some previous info- It is a Robert A V Broady who sold land in Adams Co on Aug 11,1836. The entry immediately before the Robert sale is the sale of land by Caleb Brawdy. This transaction occurred the same day. I have several land patent purchases for David and Israel in Pike Co Illinois in 1836-1840.
On Jan 24 1832 Azariah, Mrs. Broady and R Broady were also witnesses in a debt case in Adams Co

If your date is accurate for Richard's death, perhaps there are some additional sons. There are some gaps in the ages of the children you have recorded.
Do you have any info on Richard's burial? I didn't look for him but prehaps Judith found something as she looked at the Cemetery indexes. She may not have been looking for Brawdy.

Hello, Pell,

Thank you so much for your generous reply. The date of death I have been given for Richard Brawdy is December 8, 1830. Will see what I can locate in the Adams County records you mentioned.
The major problem I have is the various spellings of the Brawdy name. There are almost as many variants as there are for Bozarth, Bozorth, Bozier, etc.
I am guessing that the Chauncery Court case in 1831 is for the heirs of Richard Brawdy. It will be interesting to see if I am right.
Thank you again for your help. Look forward to hearing from you again.

Regards, VirJean Potter Bozarth
Hello, Pell,

I agree that the death date of Richard Brawdy / Broady has to be after October 12, 1831 and 24 Jan 1832.Evidently the date I was send of 8 Dec 1830 was incorrect. The R. Broady, Mrs. Broady and Azariah who were witnesses in the debt case in Adams County, Illinois on 24 Jan 1832 must have been Richard and Rhoda Brawdy and their son Ezeriah Brawdy.

Have found some interesting 1880 census records for the Brawdys. Let me know if you would like to have them.

All for now, VirJean

Hi Diane,
This is a much delayed reply to your message posted back in June 2004 about the Broady family from Cheshire. I have been occupied with other things lately but have returned to my research after a long break, my Dad Owen Broady died on 21st Feb and I have been putting together my research from the 1980s and trying to update it via the web.
How r u doin
Dot
