I have some information that seems to indicate that the Bross family name came from Germany. I have a Adam Bross born Nov 1627 in Spielberg, Germany, then Adam Bross born 29/2/1657, then Kasper Bross born 24 Mar 1696 all in the same place. Kasper had a son named Jacob born 16 Feb 1723 in Egenhausen, Germany. Given that the name Jacob is used alot in out family, this could be the father of Jacob Broce (b 1750) the Hessian, who came to this country and later married Sarah. Jacob and Sarah had 11 children (5 boys and 6 girls). I have names and who most married.

I find this all very interesting. I never met my father and his name is John Broce. He lives in Virginia. I have always wondered where the surname Broce originated from. To find out we all may be related and I may be missing out on more than just a father and half-siblings is mind blowing. My mother passed away in 2001 and my maternal grandparents are deceased as well.

Nicole Broce

I just came across your reply to Broce family message board and I am descended from this line .........(add this to your tree)

My ggg grandfather was Ballard T. Broce "Bud" who was born in Mercer county Kentucky in 1857. His parents were Henry Broce and Amanda Elizabeth Long. Ballard was named after his Uncle Ballard P. Broce who was only a few years older. Ballard settled in Franklin County with his wife Mary Ellen Shannon {married in 1880} they had two daughters......Mary Jane Broce who married George Washington Turner....and Nancy Ellen Brose who married Ambrose Tillett in 1906. They had nine children one of who was my great grandad Frank Tillett born 1909 and he died in 1994. Frank married Gladys Mchatton in 1930....they had my grandmother Lottie M. Tillett in 1936 and she married my grandad Roy Morrow and they had my mom who was named after her grandmother Gladys Morrow in 1955.

Henry's father was Jacob Brose who married Sarah Eckiss.....

So where do fall into the line?

Thanks
David

There is still a thread of the Broce famly in Montgomery CO. VA and around Blacksburg. One Broce was in charge of the physical plant at VPI and there is a Broce Drive behind the campus. I am not sure of the location of the farm, bur many of the family lived there following a move from central VA. I'm sure that you know that our first ancestor in this country was a Hessian soldier in indentured service to the British army during the Revolutionary War. He was the only immigrant as far as we know, so all Broces are related. He was a blacksmith by trade. Incidentally, there is Broce Village in Croatia. You can find information on it by going into the Croatia web page.

My gg George Washington Broce and a brother (idk if it was John0 started oput in Blacksburg, VA headed to California. When they gor to a community, Paperville, near Bristol, TN, a stop on the Jonesborough Road, a road South, my ggf decided he had gone far enough and settled there. The brother went on to CA. I had an uncle, Edward, who later went to CA. I don't know if he was going to see telatives, but I suppose so. He was killed in an auto crash in the 1920's--unmarried. This isd about all I know of the CA connection. Linda

My greatgrandfather (George Washington Broce, married to Amanda Lambert) migrated from near Radford VA to a small community in East Tenn. where he settled. The community is near Bristol, TN-VA. I guess he got tired of travelling. His brother made it to CA where both were headed. All of us are supposed to be descended from the lone Hessian soldier (Revolutionary War). There is a small village in Croatia called Broce. I found a small picture of it on the internet.

My grandfather is a Montgomery County, VA Broce. His name was Claude Broce. As I have been told, we are descendants of a Hessian solider (German), one of three brothers who came to the colonies. I can't remember all three names but do think one was Robert and another, John. I do believe the family Bible is at the library at VA Tech. The plantation where the family lived was burned during the civil war (apparently, only the fireplaces remain) but the family had given their books to the college thus saving the Bible. Not sure if it is true or a good, tall tale.

Hi Meg.

I have that Margaret Ann Lamb was born December 12, 1852 in Missouri. I think I must have gotten her birthplace from the census at some point. She married Pleasant WADE October 02, 1870 in Clinton County, Missouri.
Pleasant died August 12, 1875 in Clay County, Missouri.

Maggie and Pleasant had three children:

1. Eutychus/Eutycus Wade was born September 20, 1871 in Paradise, Clay County, Missouri. He married Anna Lee SUTHARD about 1901 in Okalhoma. He died February 26, 1945, Kelso, Cowlitz County, Washington.

2. Daniel Wade was born March 18, 1873 in Clay County, Missouri. He married Evalina JACKSON about 1895 in Clay Countyk, MO. He died September 11, 1950 in Missouri.

3. Susie Elizabeth Wade was born October 19, 1874 in Missouri. (See her marriage and death dates below).

Maggie married James Anderson SHARP May 21, 1876 in Missouri.

Maggie and James had three children:

1. Eugene M. Sharp was born April 23, 1883 in Missouri. He married Ella "Ellie" BEELER about 1906 in Oklahoma.

2. James Sharp Jr. (Jimmie) was born August 28, 1890 in Missouri and died November 22, 1892 in Missouri

3. Harry Sharp was born April 10, 1896 in Missouri. Don't know whether Harry ever married or when he died.

Pleasant WADE was the son of John W. Wade and Nancy WATSON. He was born February 08, 1847 in Clay County, Missouri.

Maggie was the daughter of Daniel James Lamb and Mary M. WEST.

James Anderson SHARP was the son of Anderson D. SHARP and Barbra JAMES of Orange County, North Carolina. James was born August 14, 1842 and died August 20, 1913 in Oklahoma. After the death of Maggie, he married Mable Unknown in Oklahoma.

I believe Maggie died in Oklahoma, since that was their last known residence.

I have names of children for most of Maggie Lamb's children if you want them. Let me know.

We are researching our gg grandfather James Luther Broce whose parents were George Broce and Eliza Shewey and were wondering if there might be a connection. Please let me know either way.
Thanks so much.
Meg

Suzie Elizabeth Wade b. 19 Oct 1874, died 1953 and was married to Frank Reed Duncan, 27 Aug 1891.
2.
