Thomas Brock, SC

Additional information re: Thomas Brock: He was living with family in Greenville, SC per 1860 census, but had moved and lived in Haywood, NC per the 1870 and 1880 census reports. Also, these later reports say that he was born in SC and that both parents were born in SC, as well. Have not found a death record for him as yet. Any information about this family will be appreciated. Also, I would especially like to know anything about the Lidia, Cangada and Sarah J. Abnatia listed with his family per the 1860 census report; they were all three born in SC per that report.

Bruce

Thomas Brock, SC

The Fed. census for 1860, Greenville, SC shows Thomas Brock, age 47 as head of his family consisting of wife Susan & several children, plus Sarah Brock, age 78. Also, Lidia Abnatia, age 37, Cangada Abnatia, age 17 & Sarah J. Abnatia, age 13 are shown in this household. Can anyone help with the following:

1. Parents of Thomas Brock, and siblings, where born, etc. (most likely Sarah Brock, age 78, was his mom)?

2. Maiden name for Susan Brock, parents and siblings, where born, etc.?

3. What is the relationship or circumstances that resulted in Lidia, Cangada and Sarah J. Abnatia being in the Brock household at this time, where are they from, where did they go after 1860,etc.? (I suspect that Abnatia is really Abernathy but was misinterpreted at transcription.)

Bruce

Hinton Family in Kentucky

My great grandmother was Harriet Wolford Brock Sexton. Her husband was Charles Burks Sexton.
Her parents were John Brock and Synthiann (Synthia Ann/Cintha/Sinta) Brock. Harriet (Hattie's) death certificate lists both parents. Synthia Ann had a lady living at her house that I assume is her mom in the 1860 census report in Adair County, KY--her name was Rachael Hinton. I have been unable to find Synthiann's death certificate to find her parents' names. I can only assume right now that Rachael Hinton is Synthiann's mom. I am looking for Rachael Hinton's husband's name.

Harriet's birth was 1-12-1862 and death was 11-15-1931. The only thing that I know about Synthiann is below.

Here is the census data that I found from Adair County, KY in 1860:

John Brock age 41
Sintha A. age 39 birthplace--Pulaski
Co., KY
Joseph age 11
James T. age 9
Malissa age 5
Rachael Hinton age 70
Elizabeth Curtis age 45

I am assuming that Rachael is probably Sintha's mom, and maybe Elizabeth Curtis is her grown sister who is also living with her. I wonder if Elizabeth's last name is a married name.

Census data for Adair County, KY in 1870:

John Brock 57
Synthiann 49 Birthplace: ditto mark under
TN from husband's line above
James T 19
Maliza 16
Harriet W. 8
John 6

No mention of Rachael Hinton.

In the 1880 census report Synthiann's birthplace is listed as Kentucky. Her mother's and father's birthplace is also listed as Kentucky.

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Green McKinnis BROCK b.1833, AL

I found four old photographs several years ago in a box of BROCK family photographs, that I have been trying to identify. This BROCK family moved from Henry Co, AL to Polk Co, TX in the 1850s.

Two are Ambrotype photographs. These type photgraphs were made from 1854 to the 1860s.
My first thought was that this was Mary Ann PEEBLES b.1840 and Green McKinnis BROCK b.1833. I now think that they might be Julia Ann BOONE b.1843, IN and her husband Thomas D. PACE b.1829.

The reasons I am leaning that way are:

1. I received a picture of Mahala PEEBLES, the sister of Mary Ann PEEBLES. Mahala looks nothing like the picture. Doesn't prove that it isn't Mary Ann, but there is no family resemblence.

2. The tin type photo that I found at the same time was Myra PACE and her sister May PACE. I would date this photo around 1892. Myra married William Henry BROCK b.1866, TX. The box I found these pictures in was a box of BROCK photos, but these pictures were evidently saved by Myra (PACE) BROCK.

3. Instead of Mary Ann PEEBLES, I think that this picture is Myra's mother -- Julia Ann BOONE b.1843, IN. There is a strong resemblence between another picture of Myra taken around 1900 and the picture taken around 1865, who I think is her mother.

4. If Myra saved the pictue of her mother (Julia Ann BOONE), then she might have also saved the picture of her father (Thomas D. PACE).

Would like to dialogue with anyone that might have additional insight.

Dan
Ercel Brock, b.abt 1903, son of Philip Brock & Hettie White, lived Fulton Co., IL & Orange Co., CA

I have four original photograph of the family of Ercel, Hettie and Philip Brock, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. All photos were taken in Cass (Fulton Co.) IL, and all are Cabinet Card studio photographs. First photo is of “Ercell Brock”, showing him at about age 3. Next photo is of “Ercel Brock and Orwil Shaw”. Ercel looks about age 2, and Orwil Shaw is about age 20. Third photo is what looks like the wedding picture of “Hetty and Philip Brock”, and it looks as if they are in their early 20s; I assume it was taken in about 1895. the last photo is of “Hettie White Brock”, showing her at about age 18.

I found Ercel Brock and his parents in the 1920 census for Cass (Fulton Co.) IL. Philip (age 46); Hettie (46); Ercel (age 17); Elizabeth Brock (mother of Philip, and age 89); and Phylis White (a niece, age 16). In 1930, the family lived in Santa Ana (Orange Co.) CA.

California Death Records show Ercell White Brock, born 30 Oct 1902 in IL; died 4 Jan 1951 in Orange Co., CA – and shows his mother’s maiden name was White.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Ercel Brock, or parents Philip and Hettie (White) Brock.

According to my dad, Daniel Brock is my great, great, great, great, great granddad. We live in Decatur Co., Georgia and we have done much research into our family tree. But, the only problem is that he is the only ancestor that we can find that was the first to come to America, but we do not know were he came from and who his family is. So anybody with info, we would appreciate it greatly.

This Sarah was born abt. 1849 according to those census records. Her parents disappeared after 1860 and Sarah's other siblings apprear to have been scattered in other households in 1870.

I want to find out if this Sarah listed in the marriage records was actually a BROCK, and if she is the one I am looking for. I have exhausted other means to find out her mother's maiden name and am hoping to find a death record that might list it. Her brother James, my direct line died in 1918 OK, but attempts to locate his death record have come up empty. Other siblings died before 1900.

If this Sarah is the one I am looking for, I am really curious who this BROCK family is that she and the Depriest's are living by in ARK. My BROCK's also went to ARK, but this family doesn't seem to be related unless they are cousins or something, which is very possible. Mine were also from NC before AL and then ARK.

So, who is William H BROCK?

Willie W. Brock b. abt 1867 - son of Jas. H. Brock - SC

I found an obituary for a Willie W. Brock among my family history files and I was trying to find out who Willie was and what family he belonged to.

I looked at the census reports for 1870 and 1880 and it looks like the age matches up to the Jas Brock family of Honea Path, Anderson Co., SC.

1870
Jas Brock (35)
wife: Susan (26)
dau: Della (10)
son: Willie (4)
son: John (2)

1880
Jas Brock (46) Widowed
son: W.W. (14)
son: Jno A. (12)
dau: Lula J. (9)
son: J.O. (7)
son: R.O. (5)
son: R.F. (3)
dau: S.E. (10months old) born July
also living in household Mary Brock (80)

The dates for Jas/James & Susan seem to match several family tree entries for James Hamilton and Susan Blackmon on ancestry.com.

Note: The obituary for Willie W. Brock is dated Jan. 10, 1889 from the Anderson newspaper. It mentions that he was the son of Jas. H. Brock and that Willie died at his home at 22 near Pendleton of Typhoid Fever.

My Great Great Grandfather was Emasiah Brock son of Andrew and Ellen Smith Brock.

Again, I look forward to hearing from anyone knowing about this family.

Gail Smith Boyle - Joppatowne, Maryland
mybrockfamily@comcast.net

www.BrockAncestry.com has expanded by adding a new free database titled Patriot Wiki. Records to be included are pension declarations, service records and other pertinent RW data.

Anyone can view the data, but you must be a registered user to post records. For those who register and are not familiar with how to post on a Wiki format, please email me for assistance at jtaylor at brockacestry.com

The link to Patriot Wiki is http://www.brockancestry.com/wiki We have just started this project and currently have some Brock records, along with a few others. You can view a complete list of entries by following the "Current Event" link located in the left column of the main page.

Jerry Taylor
Also, it would help to have images turned on, because you will be able to see (and download) images of the actual death certificate.
Although a narrow search on this site will eliminate notices you wouldn't want to see, if you are too restrictive you'll likely miss something.
Good Hunting!
Allen

Drucilla Brock Estes

I am looking for information on Drucilla Brock, who was the first wife of my great-grandfather, Mose Estes of Estill County Kentucky. They are listed in the 1870 census as a married couple, and he was supposed to have served in the Civil War on the Confederate side. By 1879 he is marrying again to Nannie Sloan Powell, a widow with three children. He had three childre, Andrew, Ada and Mary, by Drucilla. Together, he and Nannie had five children, of whom my grandfather, John Will Estes was the oldest. A family historian was told by one of Moses granddaughters that his first wife was Drucilla Brock, daughter of Amon. Any help would be appreciated.

Walter Brock

Hi, I'm actually trying to find more information about my great-grandmother, Elizabeth Hemphill, nee Brock. She was born in Paisley, Scotland in 1854. A friend who has access to Scottish records found an Elizabeth Brock born in Paisley in 1854, who had a brother Walter born in 1856.

I've found the entry for my Hemphill family in the 1900 census in Newark, NJ. Listed on the same page is a Walter Brock who was born in Scotland in 1856, so strong circumstantial evidence that the Scottish birth record is for "my" Elizabeth Brock, and that Walter is her brother.

I wanted to look at the 1910 Census and see if I could still find Walter Brock there. So I'm looking for tips how to do that at ancestry.com. Even if I used the Advanced Search and search *** only the 1910 census. and look for Walter Brock born 1856 +/- 2 years, born in Scotland, living in NJ *** ...

I get far too many hits to be useful, and that is looking at "3 stars or better" records. I still get hits for people like Walter Brock born in Indiana in 1889, and Walter Brock born in Missouri in 1903, etc. There is too much "noise". But if I go to '4 stars or better' it drops down to zero hits.

Does anyone have a suggestion of a better way to search for my Walter Brock, or have any information on him?
