Re: BROCKETT Berlin B 1818 1904

This would be Berlin Bonaparte Brockett, from the Macon & Smith County, Tennessee. His family was included in the 1905 book, "The descendants of John Brockett, one of the original founders of New Haven colony", upon which most modern American Brockett family research is built. The book didn't indicate where his family had ended up, so this is a nice find for those not who aren't direct descendants and might not have known.

Frances Brockett [1583-1676] (w/o Richard Moss and John Dudley North)

Maybe someone could help me figure this out. I have that Frances Brockett, who was born about November 28.1583 in Brockett Hall, Hertfordshire County, England and died about February 28, 1676 in Kirtling, Cambridgeshire County, England. I have that she married John Dudley North, November 28, 1600 in Brockett Hall, Hertfordshire County, England and had 6 children and then she married Richard Moss (my 11th great grandfather) and they had two children. But according to my information, Frances had a son William Henry Moss, who was born about 1600 and then she had a another son, Dudley North that was born about 1602. My final head scratcher is that Frances and John had a daughter that was born in 1613 and then she had a son that was born about 1610 with Richard. How can all f this be?

Thanks In Advance,
K. Chris Vickery

An antique photo album with Brockett family photos has been located!

I have good news for the researches of the Brockett family.
I have genealogical information about your family that came from their very hand.

If you are a descendant then I have even better news for you. The information came in a remarkable antique photo album from the Brockett /Dempster family.

I am Robert D. King and in my travels, I see family photos lost in antique stores and for sale on ebay. I think that is sad knowing that there are family tree researchers and descendants, that would treasure those photos. So I have decided to try and do something about it by returning as many as I can to their rightful families.
So I buy photos with names and dates or places on them and list them on my webpage, so descendants of these lost souls can find them and bring them home. The thousands of photographs are mostly from the 1800's and include Tintypes, Daguerreotypes, Cabinet Cards, Carte-de-visites, Personal Picture Postcards, Photo Albums and Yearbooks.

Recently I located The Photo Album of the Dempster/ Brockett Families from New York
This ( 6 x 7 x 2 inch) album has green background and gold flower border.
The inside cover has the signature of Hattie Dempster
and the date of Christmas Day, 1877.
There are 48 cdvs in the album.

The names in the album are:

Aunt Sarah Brockett in a photo from Little Falls, New York
on the back it says Sarah Brockett died Nov. 8th, 1880 at age 52

Will Jackson in a photo from Elgin, Illinois in 1877

Albert Fox in a photo from Gloversville, New York

Lillian Van Denburg in a photo from Gloversville, New York

Joe Wyatt (about 18) in a photo from Fort Plane, New York

A girl in a studio portrait from Warwick County Leamington
which is a spa town in England, known for the medicinal qualities of its water

Nellie Realer in a photo from Little Falls, New York

Joe Wyatt (about 20 years old) in a photo with no location

Mrs. Emma Smith Gros in a photo from Troy, New York

Aunt Sarah Cockreill (born about 1826 in England )
in a photo from Fort Plane, New York

Jane Walrath in a photo with no location

Toddler in a photo from Fort Plane, New York
on back it says Bertha Floyd 2 years 4 months (Hatties daughter)

Aunt Grace Dempster in a photo from Lockport, New York

Frank Pealer (Realer?) in a photo from Little Falls, New York

Delos Cockreill (born Jun 1859 in Palatine, New York)

Will Cockreill in a photo from Cooperstown, New York
(Willard Cockreill born 1 Dec 1860 in New York)

Helena Perkins in a photo from Newark, New Jersey

Kirton & Will Perkins in a photo from Newark, New Jersey

Edith Caldwell in a photo from Chicago, Illinois
(on back Edith Cadwell eight months)

Aunt Emma Michael and no location

Miss Van Denburg in a photo from Fort Edwards, New York

Aunt Ruth Brockett in a photo from Johnsville, New York

Lillian Van Denburg in a photo from Albany, New York

Floyd Michael in a photo with no location

Lilah Dempster in a photo with no location

Bertha (Hatties daughter) in a photo with no location

In addition 14 names were found without photos.
They are My Great grandfather Kirton, My Grandma Dempster,
My Grandma Brockett, Sarah Goodbread, Uncle Clinton Brockett,
Uncle Reuben Michael twice, Aunt Keziah Wyatt, Asa Cole,
Rutherford Van Denburg, Laura Lyker, Jake Richard,
Bertha Floyd and K H S Brome.

And eight more photos with locations from Gloversville, Little Falls, Fort Plane,
Johnsville Lockport and Potsdam, New York, Lake City, Minnesota & Benton Harbor, Michigan

According to the 1892 History of Montgomery County, New York by Washington Frothingham

Hattie Dempster was the daughter of James W.
A couple of my families also moved from Branford to Wolcott, so I have studied the records of both towns. There are a lot of Brocketts in Branford in the 1700's. If you haven't found your Mary there, you should check. And if you have already checked in Branford, I might suggest you contact the Branford Town Historian. She is abstracting all the genealogical information from the land records and might be able to help you. If you will email me directly, I can give you her email address.
Thomas Brackett or Brockett Salem, MA 1650s

Who was this Thomas Brackett?
Thomas Brackett had three children who were baptized in the First Church of Salem, Massachusetts:
BRACKETT births:
Thomas, son of Thomas, baptized 7: 10m: 1645
Mary, daughter of Thomas, baptized 4: 12m: 1648
Joseph, son of Thomas, baptized 15: 4m: 1651

Thomas Brackett had two children who died in Salem, Massachusetts:

BRACKETT deaths:
Lidea, daughter of Thomas, Jan. 1, 1667
Thomas, son of Thomas, Jan. 15, 1667

Thomas Brackett (Jr.) died on 15 Jan 1667 and his estate was inventoried on 1:5m: 1668 and administration was granted to his father, Thomas Brackett.
Thomas Brackett was fined for missing church and attending Quaker meetings on 04 and 11 Jul 1658. On 28 May 1659 Thomas Brackett petitioned the court to have his fine remitted, “humbly acknowledging his being drawn away by those called Quakers from good ordinances of god here established, and too often to meet and join with those ill affected persons, to dishonor God, troubled this commonwealth, & wound & greife to his wife, family & conscience, for which he desires to be humbled.”
H. I. Brackett, in his Brackett Genealogy, indicates that Thomas was a brother to Richard and Peter Brackett of Braintree, Massachusetts. The will of Richard and Peter’s father, Peter Brackett of Sudbury, Suffolk, England does not include a Thomas Brackett as his son. Was he possibly a Brockett instead of a Brackett. One record I have seen gives his name as Thomas Brockett.
Hi mizeryphaze1,
I know your post is old, but read it today on Message Board. Can you go back a couple generations with names and dates? I have research the Brockett line for 20 years and published a 2 vol. set of books on them Which line of Brockett's do you descend from. Benjamin of Va. or John of Ct.
Vi

Re: old Brockett church document

If you go to Footnote.com and search for "West Union Church", you can see a scan of the original document. I'm not sure if there are any other documents available relating to the church in White County. But as you'll see the document just says "J B Byram".

There used to be a scan of the document attached to the blank message I posted, but apparently it got dropped during the Rootsweb/Ancestry changes.

In reading old posts, I came across this...I have a gguncle Joseph P. Byram. Occassionally his name is mistranscribed Joseph B, Byram. He fought in the Civil War and moved to Martinsville Illinois. My gggrandfather was his brother GWByram.

At anyway in this Church list is a Joseph B...when you read the original is it possible?

Re: Mattie Lula Brockett-Pipkin Red Boiling Springs Tennessee

Mattie Pipkin is 1st cousin 3x removed of my husband. Mattie is Martha J. “Lula” Brockett 16/9/1865-15/4/1937, married to Millard F. Pipkin 15/6/1851-?. She is twin sister of Merlin Luther Brockett. Parents are James Harvey Brockett, Sr., and Mary Josephine Wakefield. There were a total of ten children; James Haley, Merlin Luther, Martha J., Eugene F., Henry J., Elmer Eldridge, Allie May (1872-1964), Thomas Walter, Sr., Ernest Delwyn, Sr., and Benjamin E. b. 1878.

Eugene F. died at age 17, and Henry J. was unknown to the surviving family-he appears only on 1880 census-age 12. In 1935 there were six sons and two daughters surviving (Martha and Allie May).

The family lived at Gibbs Crossing and Red Boiling Springs, both small communities in Macon County, which is in North Central Tennessee. Martha’s great-grandfather was William Ebenezer Brockett, Sr., Captain in the Revolutionary War, who brought his family from York County, South Carolina to Macon County (formerly part of Smith County) in the early 1800’s, prior to 1815.

We don't show another spouse for either of Martha’s parents. The only sister we show of Martha is Allie May, who died in 1964 according to our records. We have a couple of Minerva Brocketts in our database, but the birth years are off by several decades for both of them. We don’t have either Hopper or Wallace in our records. So it does look like one more genealogical mystery.
