This photo shows both Lang and Brockley. As for the rest of the group, no one else is named. In an earlier part of my grandfather's diary about this trip he mentions drinking 'Mountain Dew' (not the current canned drink) and that the tour guides were local men or women. I'm guessing that the woman standing between the two horses might be the tour guide.

Jan

In my grandfather's photo album I found a few small photos from his trip to Ireland with Lang and Brockley after the war. I will try to post them here and will include captions wherever they appear. This first photo is at Blarney Castle and I believe the two soldiers are Lang and Brockley. Sorry for the blurriness. All the photos are like this but maybe someone can Photoshop them into better focus?

Jan

Hi, we are definitely from the same family of Brockleys.

Samuel your Sarah Ann's brother is my great great grandfather. I am a descendent through his wife Annie Bowman.

I would be interested in seeing what you have as I am stuck on Samuel Brockley and Elizabeth Davis.

Robert Brockley had a brother William Charles who did the same year of birth and also had William (1824) as his brother and also he had a brother Samuel (1826-1830).

You can view my tree on ancestry as it is Public.

If you don't hear from me for a while it will because I live in Queensland and will be going to Melbourne for 2 weeks tomorrow.

Not sure if I will be able to get access to a computer, but I will reply when I get back.

Regards

Sue

Robert Brockley was my Great Great Grandfather. He was born in 1822 in Limerick Ireland and was the son of a military man Samuel Brockley who had an English background but was posted in Ireland in 1822. Robert had 3 Brothers: William, Charles and John. Robert was younger. Robert married Jane Bimson/Brinson/Brimson/Dimson. Jane had 11 children including Sahra Ann Brockley who was my Great grandmother: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Desktop\Downloads\I3505 Florence BIMSON (Dec 1891 - ____).mht - born in 1869 and married Alfred Henry Jose in 1893 Bendigo. They had Alice Elsie Jose 1898 who was my grandmother. Sahra Ann died young and the family moved to Western Australia and Alfred remarried and his children went to a Catholic Home, but kept in touch with thier father. Alice married a man who used an Alias: Lane. They had Sylvia 1930 - my Mother. Mum married the son of a English emigrant Alice Ruler and had 4 children. The original Samuel Brockley born in the 1700's had sons who all named one of their children Samuel and those Samuel's also named some of their sons Samuel. There were lots of Samuel Brockleys. My ancestor had two sons who could have been your relative: Samuel Brockley 1854 and Arthur Brockley 1871 both of them died in Australia. One died in the war: John Robert Brockley 1867 - 27/11/16 in France. He was Sahra's Brother. Please let me know the birthdate of your Authur Samuel Brockley

Hello,

I found the following notation in my grandfather's WW1 diary, dated 10 May 1919, while he was on leave to Ireland:

"Auto to Blarney with Lang (Can) + Brockley (Aus) Kissed Stone etc. Back at 2 - Dinner - Promenade - Pool - Tea - arr. Killarney 8.45 pm. Lakes Hotel in bus. Promenade. Back at 11 pm."

If anyone is researching these ancestors, I hope this helps.

Jan Tucker Mulligan

Thank you, Angela,

I found my grandfather's address book from the same era and found 3 names listed, Brockley, Lang and Balderson, all at the same address:

22 T.S. R.A.F. Gormanston Ireland

Like to find out what "22 T.S." means. Tactical Squadron maybe? Any suggestions appreciated.

Best wishes,
Jan
Hi there

I did some digging on the National Archives of Australia website and I think the Australian soldier is Private Arthur Samuel BROCKLEY no. 2378, next of kin Ellen Brockley.

He disembarked Weymouth (sth coast England) 2 April 1919 and embarked for his return to Melbourne on 15 May 1919, so it's quite possible he was in Ireland on the 10th May.

Hope one of his relatives reads this.

Happy Anzac Day.

Angela
