Janet, I am interested in the information on your Brockman family. One of my ancestors was a Joseph Brockman, born abt. 1814, and was in Cincinnati when he first arrived in America. He later migrated to Putnam County, Ohio. I would love to know if he was related to some of your ancestors. Do you know where the Brockman's came from in Germany? Contact via my email address if you can.

Thanks, Dan

Hope you see this! My Grandmother on my mom's side was the daughter of Dora Alice Yarnall and Alfred Brockman. I have lots of information about the Yarnalls, but none for Alfred Brockman's family. I know Dora Alice was married several times, but I don't know what happened to Alfred. My mother, Audrey Fetterman Roessler, said she never knew him, so I don't know if he died or stayed in Missouri when they came to California. I would appreciate any information you might have. Thank you,Lorelei Roessler

Re: Christopher Brockman

Hi, I do know that my grandfather when he was remarried to my grandmother Eva Brockman, they did live in Dundee and Monroe and the last place they lived before he died was in Wyandotte Michigan. He died of lung failure. He only had one lung left and he developed pneumonia in it. Once he got the pneumonia, he only lasted about a month or so and spent all of that time in the hospital until his death. He died in November of 63. They did have a bunch of kids by my grandmother, my mother's mother. I will see if I can remember them all. Not in order of course because I have not seen any of them since he died. I was in the Navy at the time. There was Charles, Chris Jr, Donna, Louis, Lillian, Helen. This seems to be all that I can remember. My grandmother was married to Edward Hammer before Grandpa Brockman and had several kids by him. I never knew him as he died before I was born. So between the children she had by Edward Hammer and Grandpa Brockman they had about 13 children. Grandpa Brockman was a quiet man, he liked being and keeping to himself. He was tough and rough on us kids though. There was a mulbery tree out in front of the farmhouse and even if the berries fell to the ground he would not let us near the tree, so if he was taking a nap or gone, Grandma would give us bowls to go and pick them up and put milk and sugar on them for us. He never knew the difference. He had a pet sname who I think was his beest companion. There was a tree stump in the backyard that Grandpa would go and sit on and his friend a big ol snake, woould always know when he was out there, he would climb up Grandpa's leg and keep climbing until he got to the top of his head and curl himself up and just lay there until Grandpa wanted to leave and go in the house. Across the street and behind the house there were big cornfields, we used to go over there and get some corn and Grandma would cook it up, the man that owned the cornfield never said anything. Grandpa was great at telling us stories too. He used to work as a grounds keeper at the local cemetery, he said that this was just before they started embalming people, And the stories he would tell us were really spooky. I spent my whole summers with them. My mother never wanted me, her name was Edna Hammer (from Grandma's first marriage). She never wantged me so anything she could do to get rid of me she would do it, and it was generally at 'Grandma and Grandpa Brockman's house. My mother said that I could stay for a week and she would be back to bring me some clean clothes in a couple of days but she never did so Grandma took some of my Aunt Helen (Brockman);s clothes and pinned them up to firt me so I would havee clean clothes. I never minded staying theree, because I knew I would not get yelled at or beaten on. They were very good to me. I sure loved my Grandpa the best. When he died, my mother never told me, it was after he died and wwas buried that she sent me a letter and told me of the funeral. My heart was so broken. I called her and ask her why she never called me and told me when he died, telling her I could have gotten emergency leave, but she said there was no sense in telling me after he already died. She just did not want me to come home. I don't speak to her at all. When I got hurt and it disabled me, all the bad things that happened to me in my life came rushing out of me and I could remembered everything that she did to me plus things that my uncle did to me came out of me through nightmares, horrible ones. I still have them. I have to say though that Grandpa Brockman was the greatest man in the world to me. It really did break my heart when he died and it didn't help any by me not being there. I think of him a lot. This was such a blessing to me to be able to find this ancestgry site with his name on it. Thank you so much for doing this research on such a wonderful man.

Re: Christopher Brockman

Hi

My name is Kathy Stevenson. I am writing to you about Christopher Brockman. He was my grandfather and died in November 1963. I am pretty sure of the date, because I was in boot camp in the Navy when he died. He was the most wonderful man in the worldd to me. He was so tall and because he was so tall he had to walk bent over to go through a door. I remember when they had the old farm house. He raised chickens, and once a month he would kill about 3 or 4 of them and grandma (Eva) would make this great big ol huge meal. The whole big family would all come, and I mean a lot of them. Grandpa also had this pet snake that he would go out in the back yard and sit on this big old tree stump. That snake always seemed to know when he came out there, because he would show up, crawl up grandpa's pant leg, until he got to the top of his head and curl up and just lay there. Then just one day he must have just slithered off and died, because grandpa neer saw him again. There was a railroad tracks, not to far from the farmhouse and every year about summer, we would go down there all of us kids and pick pails of strawberries. I spent many a summer there, as my mother never wanted me, her name was Edna, so I stayed for weeks at their house. My mother never would bring me any new clothex for a change, so Grandma had to take some of the ones that my Aunt Helen had out grown and pin them on me soi I would have something clean to wear. I loved staying with them, mainly because I loved them so much but, the other reason was I knew that I would not get beat all the time or called names. When grandpa got sick, he only had one lung, and he got pneumonia in it. He would up in the hospital and was very sick, I couldn't stay because I was already sworn into the Navy and had to leave. My mother knew how much I loved him, and shee never even let me know he died until after he was buried. Then she let me know in a letter. At the farm house there were cornfields both in the back and a huge one across thee street. We used to go and jump over the ditch and get big ol cobs of corn and grandma would cook them. That man had so many I am sure he never missed them. I Aunt Helen would take me with her on her bicycle to town and grandma would give me a quarter to get some candy. My own mother never did that. On top of the house was a big ol attic, I used to go up there and play all the time. It was fun, then when my mother decided to come and get me, I didn't want to leave. Everything about going there waas a lot of fun except for one thing and I never told anyone, but my one Uncle kept molesting me for about 4 years, I was only 4 years old when he started. I do remember it hurt, but I was afraid to tell my mother, afraid that she would beat me, saying it was my fault as bad as she hated me. He leftt for the Navy and was gone from my life, for a while anyway, he came home on leave and was running around on my Aunt Carol his wife. The bleached blonde that he was running around with were driving around uin a red convertible with a white top a Ford, they had to much to drink and he wrapped them around a telephone pole. She didn't die but he died instantly.

Later on they moved from the farm and moved to Wyandotte, Mich. to a duplex house, it was nice. I ran away from home at 14 and walked ffrom where we lived to their house which was about 12 miles or so. I stayed there for about 2 weeks, until somebody must have called my mother and she was on her way with a baseall saying she was going to kill me, but the police had also been called and got to me first.I went down to the Juvenile Detention Home, for about a month. The judge told her she wasn't fit to be a mother and if she laid another hand on me and he heard about it, he would take me away from her and lock her up. After 30 days, I said that I would go home, even after she promised the judge she would not touch me again, she lied, because things got even worse. We don't speak, I don't claim her. i am sick now with a debilitating disease and horrible pain. The disease is incurable, I tried to tell her and she never even cared, so sincee 98 we have not spoken.

I hope that you will answer me back, I would love to hear from you and all about you and what you remember about Grandpa dnd Grandma.

i don't know if we are cousins, or nieces or what, but would be nice to find out.

Thanks for reading this,

Kathy Stevenson

Charlotte, we may have talked about this before. I have questions about James birth date if he was married in 1846(which is documented)and had to be given consent by a guardian. My thoughts are he had to be younger than 21 which would have him born in 1825 at the earlyest. Was Joel his friend before he became a brother in law or viseversa? By the way Iam Ron Brockman; James was my GGGrandfather thur his son John. I think I have most of the common knowledge about James except where he came from. If you have any more info I would really know to know. Ron Brockman

Yes, and it does get a bit confusing as Andrew and Emilia Brockman were first cousins. Andrew's parents were Samuel Brockman (c.1734-1799) and Mary Bell. Emilia's father was Samuel's younger brother William Brockman (23 Oct 1740-1812), who married his own first cousin, Elizabeth Brockman (15 Jan 1749-14 Dec 1822).

Samuel and William's parents were John Brockman, son of Samuel Brockman (1685-1766), and Mary Collins. Elizabeth Brockman's father was William Brockman (c.1718-1809), son of Samuel Brockman (1685-1766) and younger brother of John Beockman. Elizabeth's mother was Elizabeth "Betty" Mason (c.1723-c.1800)

Re: Brockman surname origin

Hello Ingo,

There are certainly many Brockmans distributed widely across many countries, but if they originate in Germany or not is another question! Perhaps you have not yet seen the work Dr Adam Brockman has done on the Y-DNA of the Brockman family? It showed UK, USA and German Brockman(n)s were all of different haplogroups (www.brockmanfamily.org). It is therefore difficult to see how there may be a common origin for this now widely spread and diverse Surname.

Of particular interest to me is how the name in the UK may have changed over time. We know it started off as Brokeman (1390c) before reaching its present form. As my own Y-DNA tests indicate probable Norse Viking and Norman origin it is likely the name has previously gone through additional changes. If we could find what those changes could have been, there is just a small chance there may still be records pre 1390 that could shed light on our ancestors and their activities!

Regards

Patrick Brockman
www.brockmanofkent.net
Brockman surname origin

Hi,

I am interested in the history of the Brockman surname name and possible links to other similar sounding names. Does anyone know of any connections, name changes or links to the other listed names - possibly pre 1400?
Y-DNA testing (R1a1) suggests probable Norman and Norse Viking origin for Brockmans in SE England. This could tie in well with the French origin of some of the names.

Thanks.

I just came across this census record and wonder if there is a connection.

1870 Granville, Mercer, OH (Coldwater)
Herny Hiney (I believe this is my Heyne family) age 69 born in Prussia, farmer, wife Clara age 60, Prussia. Josephine age 14, Ohio, helps mother. Also listed under the household number is Barny Brockman age 25, farm laborer, age 25, OH and Anna Brockman, age 20, 'helps mother'. So I am assuming that Anna was a Heyne/Hiney.

Does this Barny Brockman fit into anyone's family. I'm trying to get information on the Heyne family. Josephine would be my 2nd Great Grandmother.

Not in my tree. However, a Brockman in the cinn/covington area should not be hard to track down. Surely the 1910, 20, or 30 census has her and family. Mine have addresses and county seat.
Re: Brockman surname origin

Brockmann is a german surname.
All research them all over the world.
The Brockman(n) in Sweden, Dutch, Danemark, Norway and later in USA and all over the world (and probably also the english onces - may be the anglo saxon bring the surname to england), can be rooted to germany. In saxony (now Lower Saxony and Holstein - not the Bundesland Saxony) and westphalia the name first arrived.
Their no real connection to the vikings.
I found only a connection to the frisia and the Brookmannland = Brookmerland...

more than 12.000 Brockmann
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SRCH&...

cu
Ingo Brockmann
www.ingobrockmann.de

Carey Brockman(AR), wife of Thomas Asbury Brockman

I am looking for information on Carey Brockman. We suspect that she was of Indian descent. She was married to Thomas Asbury Brockman, and they had a daughter named Nancy(born in AR in 1843). Carey was born around 1813 in Virginia. I would appreciate any information on Carey--would love to learn her maiden name and/or family background.

Thanks,
Susie Pack

I am searching for information about my gggrandfather, Thomas Brockman. He was born in Georgia, I believe, about 1808. In later life, he lived in Arkansas - is shown as a land owner 1850-1860. Can anyone help me find information on his family? Thank you.
