Dear Whitney

I was very happy to see that you are taking interest in our family ancestry. My grandfather, Hugo Inwald, was married twice. His first wife, Emily Inwald, died in 1921 from diabetes. His second wife, Camelia, died with him Auschwitz in 1942.

I wonder whether you know anything about Carl Inwald who lived in Miami, Florida. His mother, Roselle, was your great-grandfather's (Joseph) sister. She died in 1944 in the USA.

Shimon Eshel
please correspond with me to email: eshel36@012.net.il

Many thanks for your kind letter.
You should not give it all up because I could not help you. If you find anyone of your ancesters that was born in Sweden you should have a good chans to find that person as we have had every birth booked by the Swedesh church since the beginning of 1600.
I am to take up my genealogy-searching again this summer and I can keep my eys open for any Brodd if you just can find anyone who was born in Sweden.
You can look in the books containing incoming people to USa to begin with.
Good luck
Lennartbroodh

Lennart ~ so sorry to hear of your wife's passing. My husband has been deployed for six years and will spend two more in Korea, but at least I have hope that we'll be back together some day...as I pray you have, even in a different way.

I knew that Brodd is a military name, meaning something like horseshoe nail (Anders Brodd always adored horses; they only known picture we had of him for a long time was with two horses). Before Brodd, the family had another military name: Fast, but those names surely have been easier to trace than the Anderssons they would've been. We had one line that changed their name from Mattson to Anderson because they thought at the time that Anderson was less common!

My baby sister has just become interested in genealogy so I've gone back to update some things for her (one of the first things I had to tell her was that those other people named Brodd are not related to us); our mom lost her only sibling and three cousins in the last couple years so has just one cousin left in their generation who grew up so close to each other in Chicago & Wisconsin. My generation started moving, but are happy the Internet has allowed us to refind many of our members.

May you have many days that still cause you to smile!

I wish you a happy new year!

But - I lost my wife three days ago after sixty years together, so I am not at my best yet if I ever will be.

Nevertheless, I can tell you, that the surname Brodd is a soldiers name, that was given to him, when he joined the army.
Almost every boy, at that time, had a surname that consisted of his father fist name and the suffix "-son".

Tat means that all the "Brodds" are not related and befor around 1850, if he was not killed in the wars, that were very common from around 1000 and up to 1809 when we ended our last war, he had to return hes surname as a soldier.
So - I have at lot of "Brodds" here in Sweden and around the world that is not related to me.

Good luck to you in your search.
Lennart

MVH
Andrea
