I have Brodts from the Alsace area of France/Germany, a village called Volksberg. I know they were in Ohio and probably Schuylkill area as my ggrandfather, WIlliam H. Macy, married Christine Brodt and he was from Schuylkill area. It may be just a coincidence, but since I have hit a brick wall with him, I thought it was worth checking :-). On the census, her father (Theodore) lists his birth place as Germany while she lists hers as France. Alsace area is one of those that switched back & forth between Germany & France, depending on who won the last war.
