Re: Samuel Broderick

We have a few pieces re: Samuel Broderick. His wife was Eleanor/Ellen Egan. As far as we know he was a mariner and likely immigrated from Newfoundland/Nova Scotia sometime between 1832 and 1841, but is not found in the US 1840 census. According to one of the children's death certificates, he was born in Canbonier, Nova Scotia, Canada. However, we have not found a place with that name. There is a Carbonear, Newfoundland, Canada, however. It is near here, that two of the children are recorded as having been christened (Harbour Grace).
There are two possible dates of death:
31 Jan 1852, Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts (also states he was a mariner, married, and parents were Joseph and Ellen Broderick)
21 Jul 1852, Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts
Since both of these dates come from a database (Familysearch.org), and only the first has a picture, I cannot tell if they come from the same source and the second was transcribed incorrectly.

Here is some info regarding his children:
1. Jeremiah E. Broderick
Christened: 24 September 1820
Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, Canada
m. Lucy A. Robbins
1 Dec 1849 in Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts
Children:
1. John W. Broderick (1850-1852)
2. Charlotte Eleanor Broderick (1852-?)
3. Edward Egan Broderick (1855-?)
2. Winifred Broderick
Christened: 12 September 1824
Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, Canada
m. Patrick McGlew (1821-?)
8 Oct 1842 in Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts
Had 6 children (to our knowledge).
3. Hannah or Honora M. Broderick
Born: 11 Mar 1822
Saint John, Saint John, New Brunswick/Nova Scotia
Died: 26 April 1876
Georgetown, Essex, Massachusetts
m. Augustin Cornelius VanMoll
25 Jan 1840, Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts
Had 10 children
4. Mary A. Broderick
Born: abt 1829 Newfoundland, Canada
m. George Washington Knapp Pike
9 April 1850, Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts
5. Ann Broderick
Born: Abt 1832, Newfoundland, Canada
Died: 16 Jun 1886, Georgetown, Essex, Massachusetts
6. Francis E. Broderick
Born: 14 June 1841, Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts
Died: 2 December 1883, Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts
m. James Freeman (1834-?)
24 Nov 1859, Newburyport, Essex, Massachusetts
Had 2 daughters

If you have additional information to share or would like more information regarding childrens' families, please ask. Thank you!

Hi Stacey, I am interested in discussing with you about the Broder/Brodericks from Woodford, Ireland as I believe that John Broderick and Mary Kelly were my great, great grandparents. I have a Catherine Broderick who is my great grandmother. Catherine's nephews were born in Woodford, Ireland according to their WWII records and I have them arriving in Philadelphia going to live with my great grandmother. I know this post is quite old but if you get it and can get back with me we could go over some of what we both have. Thanks, Mary

Clinton Broderick from New York

I have reached a dead end while researching my great grandfather. His name was Clinton Broderick and he was born in New York, probably upstate in 1862. I believe his mother and father were also born in New York. He married Minnie Smith around 1890 and lived in Tyrone, Schuler, New York, near Watkins Glen. They had one child, Emma Mae. He later moved to Lancaster, Nebraska and married Maud Bird in 1898 and had one child, Jay Jennings Broderick. (Both of his wives went on to remarry and have other families - Minnie Smith Broderick Stamp and Maud Bird Broderick Bassett.) Any help finding any more info about him or his parents would be greatly appreciated!

I FOUND SOME INFO ON A WILLIAM BRODERICK from 1606 who was appointed Attorney General in Jamaica. Found this info in a book named The Original Lists of persons of Quality 1600-1700, Edited by John Camden Hotten. The appointing of Grants, Patents etc from England to those going to or in the Americas are listed in this book. Maybe he is the ancestor who began the name in those parts of the world? Good Luck.

I believe his wife is Eleanor/Ellen (unsure of last name). Daughter's name was Winifred. Would like to know who his parents were, and/or more general information about him.Thanks.

Re: Broderick family tree

Hey, I am currently working on a Broderick family that is descended from a Thomas Broderick (b. 1790). He had a son, William Broderick (1820-1901), who married Hanora Flemming (1819-1899) and had two children: David Broderick (1850-1906) and Sophia Ellen Broderick (b. 1852). David, in turn, married Sophia Richards (d. 1925) and had ten children: Ellen Jane Broderick (1879-1907), Richard James Broderick (1880-1907), William Broderick (b. 1881), Mary Lenora Broderick (1882-1903), Susan Broderick (b. 1884), Johanna Broderick (b. 1885), John Broderick (1886-1904), David Cabot Broderick (my great-granduncle; 1887-1956), Ann Mary Broderick (b. 1889), and Thomas Louis Broderick (1891-1945)[m. Gertrude (d. 1980)]. David Cabot Broderick, my great-granduncle, married Winifred A. McDonough (1894-1983), daughter of Bartholomew T. and Annie T. Fitzgerald, and they had six known children: Richard James Broderick (b. 1921), Donald W. Broderick (b. 1924), Mary Lou Broderick (1925-1984), Paul J. Broderick (1927-2006), David Cabot Broderick Jr. (b. 1934), and Robert L. Broderick (b. 1936); they supposedly had an elder daughter Ann L. Broderick (1923-1997), but it's not set in stone.

Anyways, I put a querry on this message board concerning this Ann L. Broderick and wondered if she is, in fact, their other daughter. Richard James Broderick and his brothers continued the Broderick line from there. I have a paper copy of this family chart, plus I scanned it into my computer here at home and will send it to anyone that wants to view it. Any and all information about the descendants of David Cabot and Winifred A. (McDonough) Broderick can email me at creanaugusta@yahoo.com; thanks for your time.

To all the surviving children of David C. and Winifred A. (McDonough) Broderick, I am searching for information concerning an Ann L. Broderick that is supposedly a sister to you. I am wondering, as a descendant of her elder brother Francis X. McDonough, if this Ann L. Broderick actually existed. I know of her according to a family report kinship that my father's younger brother, Leonard W. Crean (known in the family as Lenny) emailed me on 01 Jun 2002, but I am hoping that any of Winifred's surviving children can tell me about her so that I can find out if she is, in fact, a daughter of David and Winifred or not. Any and all information can be emailed to me at creanaugusta@yahoo.com; thanks for your time.

Hi, my name is Walter T. Crean and I am related to the Brodericks of Essex County, Massachusetts as David's wife Winifred is a great-grandaunt of mine and thus a younger sister to my great-grandfather Francis X. McDonough. I am looking for any and all information on the children of David C. Broderick and Winifred A. McDonough:

Richard J. Broderick (b. 1921)
Ann L. Broderick (1923-1997)
Donald W. Broderick (b. 1924)
Mary L. (Broderick) Roberts(1925-1984)
Paul J. Broderick (1927-2006)
David C. Broderick Jr. (b. 1934)
Robert L. Broderick (b. 1936)

I know that the eldest son, Richard J. Broderick, married Mildred R. Carter (b. 1921) and that they live in Beverly, Massachusetts; they had three known children--Kathleen J. (Broderick) Davis, Philip M. Broderick, and Kenneth R. Broderick--as the two sons were at my grandfather Walter F. Crean's funeral in 1995. The second son, Donald W. Broderick, married Margaret E. Day, and had four known children--Nancy B. (Broderick) Mamis, David A. Broderick, Mary E. Broderick, and Richard D. Broderick. The third son, Paul J. Broderick, had a wife named Ann [ mnu ] and had three sons--Paul J. Broderick Jr., Michael R. broderick, and Glen W. Broderick. The fourth son, David C. Broderick Jr., had a wife named Janet [ mnu ] and had children, as well as the fifth & youngest son, Robert L. Broderick, who had a wife named Anne H. [ mnu ]; I am sure that these last two sons had children too. Anyway, anyone that knows of these five sons and their families can send any information to my email at creanaugusta@yahoo.com; Richard and David live in Beverly, MA, while Donald lives in Methuen, MA, Paul is deceased and Robert lives in Edmond, Oklahoma. Thanks for your time and hope to hear back from anyone that knows these seven children and their families.

BRODERICK FAMILY OF MASSACHUSETTS

My name is Walter T. Crean and I am related to a Broderick family in Massachusetts through the McDonough family (also of Massachusetts) by way of my late grandmother Dorothy M. (McDonough) Crean (Francis X. McDonough, Bartholomew T. McDonough). My late grandmother's aunt, Winifred A. McDonough, married a David C. Broderick and had the following children:

Richard J. Broderick
Ann L. Broderick
Mary L. Broderick Roberts
Donald W. Broderick
Paul J. Broderick
David C. Broderick Jr.
Robert L. Broderick

These seven children of theirs are first cousins to my grandmother, but first cousins once removed to my father and his brothers. As for me, they could be third cousins to me, who knows.

Anyway, I am looking for information on the families of these seven children and any descendants. Any and all information can be emailed to me at creanaugusta@yahoo.com; I can only hope that anyone descended from these seven children can help me out in this regard. My uncle, Lenny Crean, is also looking for information on them as well as we are both tracing our family lines and related families to us. I would greatly appreciate any and all help, thanks for your time.

Walter T. Crean

P.S.--When you email me, I can give you my hone address and cell number if you'd like to contact me in other ways.

My first ancestry tree shows Francis Reddan married annie grimes 1833.I do not know if that year was Francis'birth year or marriage year.Francis and Annie had a daughter Mary, but i show her married name as Pilkington. For 4 generations till present day in Birr, co. Offaly there is a Francis Reddan to which the 80plus acres are passed on to.It is very possible her brother Francis whatever year that was is of the same family. When i visited them this year they said all Irish Reddan's are most likely from that same county. Many changed the spelling to Reddin, supposedly because it sounded less British. Please let me know if this sounds promising. Thank you for you reply
Janis Reddin Granger

My tree records go back to Francis Reddan married Anne Grimes in 1833. they had three children, Anne Murphy, Mary Ann Pilkington, Matt, and John. The only next generation data I have descends from Matt Reddan Married Kathleen Hayes. I am very interested in learninf of any siblings of Francis, as my grandfather, Patrick Reddan talked of 4 uncles who left Ireland, never to know of them again, Patrick Reddan immigtrated to U S, changing name to Reddin, My relatives in Ireland say any similar spellings all stem from Birr.
