My grandmothers name was Minnie Brodie and was from Cheraw,SC. Her olders daughters fathers name was Willie Leak. We are not located in New Jersey. My grandmother had 11 kids and they reside in New Jersey. Can you provide any more information that can be of help.

Hi Susan,
In The Brodie Chief Family Tree (Public), there is a listing for Dr. John Bedford Brodie who had a son Charles Sanford Brodie. One of Charles' sons was named William Eli. I could not go any further down to find the other names listed. But this line can be traced back to 1262. This line descends from the Milton and Inverlochtie Brodies. They are descendants of David Brodie of Brodie XIII.

Is George Brodie, whose father was Malcolm Brodie (1845-1923), related through his father to James Church Brodie of Thornton Loch, East Lothian, whose daughter was Mary (May) Brodie married to Denis George Lube Peart (1866-1938) and who wanted a grandson, born in 1939, to be called Malcolm? A close relation of this family was an officer in the Black Watch, Alexander Brodie, who lived c. 1965 in Aberdeenshire.

The Lewis Brodie you refer to was my 4th great grandfather! His father was Lewis Brodie and his mother was Jean Jack who I understand was born in Avoch before 1746. I believe that Lewis Brodie and Jean Jack were married abt 1765.

I can find two children of this couple:
Janet Bell Brodie bapt 7 Dec 1843 Cambusnethan, Lanark
Marrion Brodie bapt 3 Jul 1842 Cambusnethan, Lanark

Also there is a 1841 Census record for Hugh Brodie 40 Manufacturer(?), Mrs 30, Janet 3, James 1, Christine(?) Campbell 20 Female Servant in Bedford Street, Gorbals. Only the two children born in the county, others outside. Given age of Janet there appears a conflict with other Hugh Brodie, unless the first Janet died.

I am looking for descendants of a Hugh Brodie b.1801 Duffus. We know Hugh was living in Edinburgh in 1829 as his brother married from his address. There is a possibility that Hugh died in 1837 as a death is recorded in Edinburgh.
We have one other lead that we need to pursue. If you come across any records of interest, please let me know. Thanks

I'm hoping that someone will have the same ancestors in common as me as I'm trying to find out about my grandfather George Edward Brodie and his family.

My grandfather was born 6 Mar 1911 in Manchester Lancashire England and died 28 Nov 1969 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. His parents were John William Brodie born 17 Nov 1878 in Manchester and died about 1952 in Arwick and Ethel Elizabeth Black born about 1883 in Manchester.

My grandfathers siblings were Mercia A Brodie, John Robert Brodie, James Arthur Brodie and Stella Brodie.

My great grandfather John William Brodie (my grandfathers father) was in the military in the years 1914-1916 and was discharged due to being diagnosed with epilepsy after an injury obtained in South Africa in 1902 with a pick.

Anyway I'm hoping that there might be someone who may know the story of my grandfathers family so that I can hopefully fill in the gaps. I'm willing to contact people by direct email if they so wish to let me know their email address.

To find my tree, go into your search tab, go into public member trees and type in the name Frederick Kerr Brodie it is under Novak family tree, he is my grandfather and see if any names match what you have got.
As for immigration and tracing back to the Caribbean maybe some of the people on other message boards could be of help, because I wouldn't have any idea on that topic.

I have not come across your Grandfather's name anywhere in my tree so far, but most of my Brodie's are from Scotland. Feel free to view my tree as it is a public one and maybe you may find a connection.

I was told my great grandfather came from the UK as an immigration officer?...My grandfather before his death named Valentine Brodie was an Estate caretaker responsible for the running of a Plantation in Jamaica. I am wondering if there is any relationship with your family and mine.

I am search for any information on the Kitchings of Tabernacle,Aiken, South Carolina renamed Kitchings Mills or the original name.Parents names were Charles (1871) and Duckie(1878)They had 8 children and he is listed as a farmer. There is also a July Kitchings(1828) and a Lucy Kitchings(1840). They are listed as Mulattos in some and Black in other census.Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am seeking information on (African-American) James Thomas Brodie born in Carrsville, VA. He also went by the name of Marvin Smith at one point (and who knows what other names). His father and grandfather (Wilbur Brodie and William Henry Brodie respectfully) are both from that southern VA area. His mother, Nellie is from North Carolina (unsure where). Would also be interested in any info on Brodies who were slave owners in VA/NC. Thanks in advance!

OK. Here is a published source: "History of Arkansas" Vol II, Hempstead--Part of biography of Stephen K Stone, pg.1021: "Lodowick Brodie was born at Oxford, North Carolina, September 22, 1800. His father was Dr. John Brodie, born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr. Brodie was graduated in the University of Edinburgh, came to the United States as a young man and married Miss Taylor, a cousin of Zachary Taylor, who later became president of the United States. Dr. and Mrs. Brodie became the parents of the following children: Dr John Jr, Thomas, Lewis, David, Nancy, who became the wife of Dr Kittrell; Mary, Dr David, Lodowick, Alexander and James. Dr Brodie Sr passed his life in Montgomery county, Tennessee, and there he and his wife are buried. Lodowick Brodie, in addition to other things, built the first Methodist church in Fayetteville and also, in 1835, the first schoolhouse of the town, which building subsequently became the first female academy west of the Mississippi river. This was a brick building and the first of the kind in the county. It occupied the site of the present Fayetteville High School. Lodowick Brodie was twice married. In 1821 he wedded Miss Matilda Anthony, who was a daughter of William B and Susan (McClain) Anthony, the latter of whom was a sister of Charles McClain, who was a soldier in General Harrison's army at the battle of Tippencanoe and who took the tomahawk away from old Tecumseh. Dr. Mallory took possession of the tomahawk at the time, and it is an heirloom in that family in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to-day. To Lodowick and Matilda Brodie were born: Crispes born in 1822; William born in 1823; Mrs. Stone wife of the subject of this review born October 15, 1825; and John born in 1827. After the death of his first wife, Mr. Brodie married Miss Amanda Malvina Anthony, a sister of the deceased wife, and they became the parents of the following named children: Prairie, Susan, Adelaide, Jane, Mary, Ella, James, Thomas, and Lewis. Stephen K Stone wedded on the 22nd of September 1842, Miss Amanda Malvina Brodie, a daughter of Lodowick Brodie, who settled near Fayetteville in 1835. Mr. Brodie left Clarkesville, Tennessee in company with his family and in a wagon they crossed the country to Arkansas in 1834, spending one year in Benton County. Mr. Brodie was engaged in the general merchandise business at Fayetteville from 1840 to 1842, and thereafter he was a farmer. WITH THE DISCOVERY OF GOLD IN CALIFORNIA HE BECAME SOMEWHAT OF AN ADVENTURER AND CROSSED THE CONTINENT TO THE NEW ELDORADO OF THE PACIFIC COAST. HE SPENT SOME TWO YEARS IN THE FAR WEST AND WAS RETURNING HOME BY WAY OF THE ISTHMUS OF PANAMA WHEN HE SICKENED AND DIED, BEING BURIED AT SEA." (Probably died of yellow fever--FK.)
Re: the death of Lodowick Brodie, however, there is conflicting info. The following 2 items show he was back home in Neosho, Newton Co AR for the 1850 US Census Sept 4, 1850, then died Nov 3, 1850.

Cleaveland, 18, F, TN William L. Cleaveland, 1, M, MO."

More documentation: Obit Canadian Record Canadian TX 21 Mar 1912 John L. Brodie died 19 Mar 1912 in Canadian. He was born 27 Mar 1827 in Montgomery Co TN, was m. to Sarah E. Mayfield in Jan 1847, names 4 children surviving: Mrs.AB Kindel, L.Brodie:LA Calif Mrs.JB Leach:El Paso; WR Brodie:Canadian; also 3 brothers: William B. Brodie:Oakville,KY; Louis Brodie:FredrickburgTX James Brodie: AustinTX; Mrs.Thurman: Groesbeck,LimestoneCoTX. Joined the Christian Church in Apr 1848. See: "Family History of the Brodies" manuscript by Juliet Stone in Arkansas History Commission. This reference gives John L's middle name as Lodowick, and considerable information on families of children, and earlier Brodie's.

Thanks for answering my thread on ancestry.com. I am trying to find out the source of the information that you have. I can't seem to find where it is documented that John Lodowick is the son of Lodowick Brodie? I think he will probably fit in the family tree but no real link. John Lodowick Brodie was the father of William R. "Willie" Brodie and his son was Kenneth Brodie which is my father-in-law who died in 1968. So that is the connection that I am looking for.

My grandfather was:

Archibald Wallace Brodie born 1903 in Campbeltown. He left for Canada sometime in the 20's. I believe he was the 2nd of 4 boys born to Michael Brodie and Catherine (Kate) Wallace both born in in Campbeltown. Michael's parents were Neil Brodie and Mary Brown, both born in the 1850's and possibly from Campbeltown. I believe that Neil's parents were possibly John Brodie and Margaret McKerral. My James Brodie was born about 1873 and the info I have (which may be incorrect) is that he married Agnes Nicholson Skinner; then after she died may have married Christina Henry. I did not know names of any children. James Brodie was the very close uncle of my boyfriend's grandfather William Clyne Brodie who came to the US. Brodie from Scotland to Pa

Looking for any info on the children of Agnes and Robert Brodie, they came to Pa about 1891 or 2 from Scotland, oldest son George born 1890 in Scotland. George married Helen Lindsey and live in Pa all his life. Robert and Agnes had 7 children, Margaret married a Vanderhof, Charles Johnstone Brodie married a Mildred Johnson. The others I dont know Robert, James and the other 2 girls Jennie bn 1894 and Jeanette bn 1908. Anyone know these Brodies? Also Charlie's 1st wife Mildred Johnson just up and left in 1930 taking the oldest Margaret "Peggy" with her, leaving the youngest Shirely Joan behind. Im at a dead end, any help would be great.
