Many thanks for your reply. I thought that the name, Brodrick, was relatively uncommon but they are cropping up all over the place. In New Zealand, in the Aukland telephone directory I found nine of the same. There are a great number in Australia and I found one who, as an archirect, was mentioned on a war memorial in Sydney. Somewhere I have a record of a Brodrick who left England for Australia in the second half of the nineteenth century, probably with a consignment of rabbits and learned from them a thing or two about procreation!
All the best,
Tim

Tim
I am fully aware of the Brodrick's ie Viscounts and Earls of Midleton, however I regret they could only be linked further back in my family. Link to date not found.
My William 1862 was a Railway engine driver who was born in Birkenhead and died in Garston, Liverpool (circa 1930's) and is buried in Allerton Cemetry, Liverpool.
The William you are referring to I think was the rector of Castle Rising or decendant of.
Funny now that I live only 2-3 miles away in King's Lynn.
I am researching him out of interest only.
The only missing members I'm trying to find now are the decendants of Thomas who are present on the 1901 census but are reputed to have moved to USA as family story goes.
The Brodrick's of Midleton have fascinated me but they have been my biggest bugbear in research.
Until I can find an actual link they are secondary in my plans. Trying to find James's birthplace in Ireland has been my hardest task but will update files if I find out anymore.
Good luck with your research
Karl

Re: Brodrick

Hi, I think that it is quite possible that the William Brodrick that you have listed, born 1862, may be my paternal grandfather, middle name Hammond. His father came to the village of Peasmarsh, near Rye, East Sussex with the surname Ick. This he changed back to Brodrick and died and is buried with rhat name. At some time in the past, the story goes that an ancestor was disappointed with a bequest, receiving merely £3,000 (still a small fortune) when he considered that £8,000 was his due. He therefore chopped the first five letters from his surname.
As a family we appear to be descended from the Plantagenets. I believe that a William Brodrick came down to Wandsworth in the 1550's and established an estate. They moved from there to Peper Harrow near Gdalming in surrey.
They head of one line of the family is the present Viscount Midleton, Alan Brodrick, whom I have met, but he can shed no light in the Ick/Brodrick question.
The vicar's father spent some time in Antigua where he sired thee coloured offspring.
All help gratefully received.
Regards,
Tim

I have a copy of my great-grandmother’s cookbook, “The Kentucky Home Cook Book”, compiled by the Ladies of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, Maysville, Kentucky, from 1884. It has a collection of ‘receipts’ from nearly 200 Kentucky women, including Miss Fannie BRODRICK, Mrs. Forman BRODRICK and Mrs. Joseph BRODRICK, all from Maysville, Kentucky. Their names are also spelled BRODERICK in one part of the book. If you connect any of the Brodricks/Brodericks, and would like a copy of their recipes, I would be happy to email it to you.

Hello Karl,
No, I have not found an Irish connection so far. My g-g-g-grandgather, Thomas Brodrick, moved to Macclesfield from Whitby (via London - where he trained as a solicitor). His brother William became a barrister on London. Their father was George Brodrick, a master Mariner, and the family appear to have been in Whitby for some time. There are multiple family stories that there is a connection with the Midleton Brodricks, but I have found no link and am quite sceptical.
regards, Lloyd Brodrick
