My grandfather was Abe Brody of Brooklyn,N.Y. His wife was Rebecca. He died about 1940. I believe he came from the old Austria/Hungarian city of Brody. He was a builder, constructed many brownstones and was a generous supporter of Workmen's Circle. He lived in a 19 room house he built on Albany and Linden Blvds. in Brooklyn. The house remains and I am told it is now an apartment building.
According to my mother, he studied to be a rabbi in the old country but became disillusioned with religion. Despite becoming wealthy, he was a dedicated socialist.
My research indicated he may have migrated to the U.S. from Odessa. Many Jews from Brody settled in Odessa and some left for the U.S.
Any genealogical assistance is appreciated.
