Have you been able to locate any further info on this family? I believe another one of their children was Juliann, born c. 1908. She first married a "Wiley" and later William Ernst Taylor of Orlando, FL. She disappeared around 1938.

I know very few of them.
I will dig them out and e-mail them if you like. Hope your move goes well. It's a hectic time.

I know nothing about Patt Brody's parents, except the census says they were born in Ireland and that he is on the 1870 Benton Co. (age 16) census with the Orman's as a laborer. My g-grandmother Sudie Orman m. James Patrick Brody (Patt's oldest son by 1st wife) and she was Annie Orman's niece. My great aunt probably knows more about Pa Brody's family, but I haven't really asked. Do you have a DOB on Quilla? I remember Aunt Wilma a bit. I'm in the process of moving, but I'll try to get some info from my aunt.

I can't believe I never saw this. Patti married Annie Orman, twin sister of Fannie. They had eight children however Quilla died at 2 and Lena died at 16. Lawrence Lee Brody (their first child) married my aunt Wilma Shelby. Most of them lived in Ashland, Benton County, MS. Patti and other members of Plesant Hill Baptist Church left and went to somewhere just outside Memphis and started a church on July 20, 1873 which is now known as Ridgeway Baptist Church. I would really like to locate Patti's parents. Do you know anything about them?

Thank you for your reply, but all of the Brody's that were mentioned, did, in fact remain in the Philadelphia
area. Miriam was married to a Yesersky, Gertrude and Jacob Smigelsky(i) were in Buck Co. And, Zev, we think, remained in Poland. However, if there is any other information regarding the Brody's that you feel might be a connection, we would be most appreciative.

Thanks again,

Do you have any dates of birth or death for your Gertrude Brody, Jacob-Meyer S(z)migelski, Harris Brody, Mary Brody & Zev Brody? Did all come to Philadelphia? Since Philadelphia is a Port of Entry, perhaps they went on to another location? (I enjoy the search, so with a bit more info that you may have, perhaps I can find more?)

Searching for Brody family from Russia. Brother and sister Julius and Beckie immigrated to the United States in the late 19th century and married into the BLOCK and LACOV families, both originally from Minsk.

Julius and Fannie Block had two children Harry and Meyer. After Fannie died, Julius remarried (Ester) and they had one daughter Frances. Julius was in the silk trade, as was his brother in-law Meyer Block.

Beckie and Jacob Lacov had three children: Sadie, Benjamin and Frances. Jacob Lacov was in the real estate business.

The Brody, Block and Lacov families settled in New York, mostly in Brooklyn, but also in Manhattan.

I have more information about these and other related families.
AMY PAULINE BRODY AND EARL BEACH

Amy Pauline Brody, my mother, once told me that she was married to someone else before marrying my dad, John Wilbur Thompson. That they were very young. Said that he went to the grocery store, tried to rob it, got shot and then died. She told me his name, but for the life of me can't remember what it was. He could have had the last name Beach, Good, Henderson, Hupp or other. These are just some names I remember her mentioning from her youth. They would probably have been married in Minnesota or Iowa. The year span anywhere from about 1930 to 1940. She married my dad in 1940. (possibly had a daughter born in 1935 or 1936 before or shortly after he died.) I have pictures of Earl Beach on a motorcycle with my mom; picture says Fall of 1936 (but could have been Fall of 1935; the date was changed from 35 to 36); It would have been taken in Minnesota or Iowa. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Also, I have a picture of Mom holding my oldest half-sister in Spring of 1936 and Mom has a wedding band on.

Now, I'm really confused. You state that Charles Franklyn Barrus was an older brother to Caroline Barrus and your Uncle Dan (Dan Driskel?) and Dan's kid sister was Hattie Driskel Brody. Was Edith Clark Driskel married to a Barrus before Driskel and Brody? if so, when? Also I have Hattie being older (1851), not younger, than Dan (1858). No I do not know who Edith's parents were.

TAYLOR AND SARAH BENNETT DRISCOL

Member of the Driskel/Brody Gang. Johnson Driskel, father. Taylor along with his brother David actually carried out the murder of John Campbell, leader of the Regulators June 29th, 1841.
Paragraph out of "Creston History" book: Taylor Driscoll was arrested some years later. Indicted by the Ogle County grand jury for the murder of John Campbell, and took a change of venue to McHenry County where he was tried and acquitted on a second trial. On the first trial the jury disagreed, and on the second the court permitted the defendant's counsel wide latitude in cross-questioning witnesses, especially Mrs. Campbell, the widow of the murdered man, who was quite nervous, and they worried her into statements that were detrimental to the prosecution, and Driscoll was therefore acquitted. That he was guilty there could be but little doubt. (From: Creston-Dement Public library)

I have Taylor and Sarah in the 1870 U.S. Census Records, Pike Twp, Stoddard Cty, Missouri age 55 living with Sarah, wife, age 51, children: Lawrence age 20 born in Indiana, Monroe age 19 born in Missouri, Lafaett age 10 born in Missouri, and daughter Elgorado (not sure spelled right) age 14 born in Missouri. Taylor listed as a farmer. In the 1880 Census that you have Sarah is listed as a widow, therefore, Taylor had to of died (probably in Missouri) between June of 1870 and June of 1880.

If I can be of any other help. Let me know.

In previous message I meant to say "brother" of my mother; not "sister" :) :)

For many many years my mother had in her trunk a German uniform that Uncle Bill had brought home along with a machette used to fight the enemy in hand-to-hand combat. I was always in awe of these things; my brothers used to scare me with them. When mom passed away the uniform went to one of my brothers with a few moth holes in it. As far as the bear attack, Uncle Bill had quite the scars across his chest from the bear ripping at his body.........He had the utmost respect for bears afterwards.

I don't know if this is the same Wm. Brody but my grandmother was Katherine Brody. He father (my great-grandfather) was William (Willie) Brody of Sparta, WI. He was married to Mary O'Connell. This family moved to Eastern Montana (Glendive area) in the late 1890s-1910. They homesteaded in the Fallon or Terry area, I think. I know that Katherine (grandmother) married Cornelius Mathias Cremer and they homesteaded in the Melville, MT area. However, at some point, 1930-40, my grandparents lived near White Sulphur Springs, MT, where William Brody lived with them until he died. My grandmother had four siblings that I know of: Bernard (Bun) brody (was murdered), Ann Brody (married and lived in CA until her death?), Margaret (Marg) Brody, and Pat Brody (children: Jim, Dan, Dorothy (married to Scherra).

I don't know for sure, but I think Williams parents may have been Hugh & Johanna (Osborn) Brody...I can't find anything that really ties them together for certain. I can't really find anything on Mary O'Connell either.

My grandmother always said she was Irish and I do know that an Aunt of mine went to Ireland and found some relatives. I just don't know how they were related. My grandmother and Cornelius Cremer knew each other in Sparta, WI before they were married. His parents were John & Mary (Shinnick) Cremer and he was born in Cashton, WI. 10/24/1889. I think they were married 06/24/1913. They had 8 children: Mary, John, Katherine (Jane), William, Patrick (Spud), Robert (Buzz), JoAnn, and Cornelius (Bubby). All but Jane, Spud and JoAnn are deceased.

My grandfather had siblings: Violet, Leo (homesteaded in MT next to Cornelius), Glenn (was a jeweler in LaCrosse, WI I think), Sylvester (Slim). Story has it that Slim went to WY somewhere and may have committed suicide.

I don't know if any of this helps or just starts more questions. It's all I've been able to put together though.

Feel free to email me Cowboysrus@Bresnan.net.

Taylor Driscoll was arrested some years later. That he was guilty there could be but little doubt.

David and Taylor Driscoll led a gang of outlaws in the 1830s. In 1841, the gang was captured and shot, but the Driscolls escaped and were never seen again. It is believed that several caches from their robberies and stagecoach holdups remain buried near their hiding place on a farm S of DeKalb, one reported cache amounts to $30,000.
It was to be hoped that the lynching of the Driscolls would put to and end to the gang; but such was not the case, though their depredations were not so great on Ogle County as formerly. As already stated, the banditti had a large membership in each of the surrounding counties. Among the number were John Long, Aaron Long, Granville Young, William Fry (alias Sutton) Burch (alias Harris) each of whom was afterwards implicated in the murder of Col. Davenport, of Rock Island, for which crime the three first were hung; Charles Oliver, Jr. William McDowell, Haynes, Brown, Bridge, Davis, Thomas, Richard and Charles Aikens, Bliss, Dawey and West. Nearly all of these were finally run down and sentenced to the penitentiary for robbery or counterfeiting, thus breaking up the gang. It was not, however, until 1845 that the people of Ogle County felt safe. The Banditti of the Prairie and their exploits are well remembered by the early settlers of the county.
