Actually the Brogdon's apparantly came from somewhere in England, possibly Scotch-Irish to Albemarle Sound in Virginia and eventually settled in Bertie, NC. It seems that John Brogdon, his wife and a daughter and son, Malachi Brogdon came to Sumter, SC around 1790-1800. Malachi had 10 children one of which was John Bagnal Brogdon your patriarch and an older son Moses Brogdon, my g-g-g grandfather. Uncle John B. had a son, Joel Davis Brogdon that died in the Civil War at 21. John B. fought in the war himself, South Carolina 7th Cavalry Regiment, Company I along with my ggggrandfather and they were both present at the surrender at Appomattox. I have a picture of him!
