Earl Brogdon in Oklahoma

Earl Brogdon married my Great Grandmother Helen Amy Petty and they had 2 sons Leon O. Brogdon(my grandfather) and Laverne Brogdon. My Grandfather said he was about 4 years old when Earl went to the store for a pack of cigarettes and never returned. This would have been in the 1920s in Oklahoma (where exactly I dont know, they lived in a rural area though). Earl is said to have spoke in a foreign accent and he spoke another language. When my great grandmother was alive we asked her where he was from but she didn't know and did not know what language he spoke. They just didn't have access to television or anything like that back then and she was not well educated so she didn't know about those things. She remarried later and took the name Kerr and at some point they all moved to Oregon and she had other children there with her new husband. Laverne died in 1986 from skin cancer and as far as I know had no children. I would like any information any one has or can find about Earl Brogdon and maybe where he came from. Any help or feedback would be much appreciated!

I signed back into my old account and my great grandmother's maiden name was Helen Amy Petty She was married to Earl Brogdon and Earl would have disappeared some time in the 1920s. They had two children Laverne and Leon Brogdon. Laverne did pass away in 1986 (the year I was born) from skin cancer. He had no children that I am aware of. Leon (my grandfather) passed away in 2001. Leon and Laverne both would have lived in Oregon but not Earl. He disappeared before they moved to Oregon. Any information about Earl would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know if you will ever see this as I just stumbled back upon this thread. I'm sorry I never responded, I really did not think I would have any luck with it. Leon and Laverne are infact brothers, however, to my knowledge their father never lived in Oregon. He disappeared from Oklahoma and they moved to Oregon some time later. Also I think Kerr may have been my great grandmothers name after she remarried.

I have been trying to locate a school mate, Orpha Brogdon, whom I went to school with in the 1930's in Northern Arizona on Garland Prairie. She would be the same age as I am, 89 years old, so she could still be alive. I don't know if she ever married, so I wouldn't know her married name. I know that the family moved to California. I have found her two brothers Kent and Carl and parents, Roy and Mattie Fae, who have passed on. If anyone knows Orpha, please tell her I have been trying to find her. Any help anyone can give me will be appreciated.
Nancy E. Place Brown

This doesn't answer your question directly but I did find reference to Janie Perry and Burrell Brogdon's marriage. The link is:

http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/decatur/vitals/marriages/ma...

The book lists the Volume and the page number of the Decatur marriage license. Most marriage licenses that I have seen during this time frame list the parents name so your answer may lie in this document. I will keep searching but thought you may want this information in case you want to order the marriage license while the search continues.

Darlene
Do you know if Jannie Perry was born in Georgia or if the family was native to Georgia? Also, if you could indicate the race (white, black, etc), that would be extremely helpful as there a number of Brogdens in Georgia that are both.

There is a 1900 census in which I found a Jannie (transcribed as Bonnie but corrected to Jannie) Perry as a daughter residing Carrollton, Carroll, Georgia (age 8, born 1892). Her parent's names were Martha and Joe. Any extra information would be extremely helpful.

Just saw this inquiry about William Brogdon 1798 that was posted quite a while ago. Yes, we have info on him and all the rest of the family. We, three other Brogdons, have some speculations about earlier Brogdon and those in Sumter but have not connected the dots. If you are still there write me at billbrogdon1@gmail.com.

Does anyone have info about 3 Brogdons that fought in Alston's regiment in the war of 1812. Names were Silas, John, and William. I would like to know who their parents were and if they were brothers. Silas Brogdon m. Christian McPherson in Cumberland, NC in 1804. They were on the 1810 and 1820 Marlboro, SC census records with children but then the family disappeared. Would like to know more about them. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for sharing this. I have information about several of Harriet and Nathan's children as well as John Brogdon's--let me know if you are interested. Also, even though I believe Harriet's father was John Brogdon, I would like to know the source of the information you have if you don't mind. When information comes only from stories handed down, I like to have it from more than one source for my records. Do you know of a picture of Nathan and Harriet? From a picture of John's children I might be able to guess what John and Martha looked like.

Alvernor (Al) Jacobs was my biological father. I was adopted by a Quick, also a Lumbee Indian. Al's father was Frank Jacobs. Frank's parent were Nathan and Harriet. Although I was adopted, Al and I had sporadic content throughout my life until his death in 2005. If you view my tree you have to go under my mom to view Al's lineage. I guess it would be home person (living) then mother (living)then Alvernor Jacobs. Unfortunately I have not been able to get any further back than Harriet's parents also. Tracing Lumbee lineage before the 1800's is difficult.

For sure, this is one of my collateral lines. Harriet would have been my gr-grandmother's sister. I have Nathan and Harriet and records of some of their children. Since Harriet had left home by the 1850 census when all names were listed, I didn't know about her until I heard that Mabel Jacobs had written it in her Jacobs family book. I would like to know the source of Mabel's information. I'm working to find the parents of John Brogdon but have no clue. John first appeared in Marion SC on the 1830 census. All censuses from 1850 on say he was White and born in Marion Cnty. From what I've learned John's children were part Indian, maybe through their mother, but John could have been part Indian, too. My family lore says that my gr-grandmother Brogdon, b.ca1837, was Cherokee Indian. I'm pretty sure the "Cherokee" is in error but not positive. How are you related to Nathan and Harriet? It's good to hear from you and I hope to hear from you again.

Recently discovered Arvil/Orville Brogdon/Broglin of Roane Co., TN is the son of Melinda C. "Nancy" (Selvedge) Brogdon and unknown Shipley. She married William Brogdon 17 Mar 1860 in Roane Co. William deserted during Civil War, rejoined in MO. He married 2 more times, but never divorced Nancy. She had more children, one sired by John Fuller, another by an unknown Shipley. One clue is that Shipley's first name may be Tom. Any help greatly appreciated.

I am looking for Ancestor info on my Brogdon family. I know that David Brogdon from Granville Cnty NC was my grandfather 5 generations back. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Denise

Thanks for the website. I am related to the Highs who are buried there. I was wondering if there is some family relationship to the Brogdons. Do you know who owns the cemetery? It appears to be well taken care of, at least it was two years ago. But it is off the beaten path and I wondered why they chose this spot for a cemetery.

I also have Brogden's in Henry Co. Tennessee. I found a transcription for Brogden Cemetery here http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tndigs/henry/cemetery/brog...

My line is Henry & Elizabeth Hall Brogdon, their daughter Nisa who married Jonathan Taylor Flake.

Toni
