My family has very recently started our ancestral research and recenltly came accross your information. My family is African American and we are descendents of Stephen and Fannie Brooker of Barnwell and Allendale counties in South Carolina. Since we have only recently begun researching, we have only gotten as far back as about 1890ish on the Brooker side. However, I came across a roster from the 1843 Barnwell Baptist Association - and its member churches - with African American and Caucasian Brookers - but I don't know if the connection is relative. Rev. Wm Brooker, Jemimah, Abigail and quite a other Brookers are mentioned. There is mention of a Ben Brooker who is identified as Black. Do you have any other information about the African American family mentioned in the will? I am eager to find out and share any information available.
