Hi Paul - We have a lot of info on the Carr family in Dublin and later in Liverpool. These Carrs originated in High Wycombe - and have been there to see the type of Windsor chairs they made in a museum there - ther is a record of Joseph Carr in the museum. We have a photograph of Selina Brookes. There is a huge family tree of the Brookes/Carrs.
Prefer to talk via email - please contact me on

aljohn43@tiscali.co.uk

regards - Alan

JOHN HENRY BROOKES WARWICKSHIRE TO WINNIPEG, MANITOBA

John Henry (b.June 26, 1886) would be the great grandson of Thomas on my previous post. I would like any information anyone might have on John Henry as we have lost track of him. He arrived in Canada in 1905 from Warwickshire and served in WWI for Canada in 1915. After the war he returned to Winnipeg in 1919 (with an address on Kennedy Street) and was single at the time. Athough he travelled back to England in 1923 at the time of his father's death, he did return to Winnipeg two months later. Have no records after that. His parents were Thomas and Mary Jane Dean with siblings, Edit May, Percy Thomas, Thomas (my great grandfather), Ethel Minnie, Elizabeth Dean, William George Dean, Ada & Dorothy May....busy parents!

Any info would be appreciated as I would really like to find out what became of my elusive grand uncle, the only relative that came to Canada besides my great grandfather.

Sue

I would appreciate any info anyone has on Thomas Brookes, born in 1797 (approx.) who I believe married Ann Duckett in 1823. I know he had a son John, also born around 1823. John Brookes married Hannah Elizabeth Hawkes and had 6 children...William, Thomas, Sara Ann, Joyce Hawks, George and Martha.

I know the lineage down from there but Thomas has me stumped.

Thanks a bunch in advance!

Sue

Hello Tony,
Virginia Brookes is my Mother. I so happy that she was able to help you. Her health is very poor now and I hate to ask her for help. She no longer is on the internet, so sending anything is out of the question. I have a little on the Brookes family and any help would be greatly appericated. How do you fit into the family? I am doing this for my kids and geandkids. My oldest grand daughter is really interested in learning about her family. I would love to make a book with as many pictures as possible, so they have a face to go with the information. I have a lot of pictures of my grandfather(Earl Hamlet) a few of Hamlet and Louisa, so that's a start.
Best wishes and keep in touch,
Kathy
Could you tell me more about your Brookes connection. I am researching a William Brookes son of a Mark Brookes from the Birmingham area. My ggrandfather Mark had brothers name Henry and George. Their father was William Brookes. I am curious to know if your Henry's children were named specifically after ancestors

Many thanks for this. After the posting I have subsequentally found out that Deborah Kate Matthews actually married Charles Emmanuel following the death of her first husband (Benjamin Matthews). Deborah Kate's maiden name was Wale and we think she was born around 1872. From her first marriage she had a daughter - Elsie (which ties in with the name of my Grandfather's half sister).

Still attempting to find out when she married ? Whitehouse. I think it gets confusing in the records as she is laterly referred to as Kate, Deborah, Deborah Kate, or Deborah K.

Charles Emmanuel's father was John Hollins Brookes.

I looked the family up on the FreeBMD website (freebmd.rootsweb.com) and the info isn't exactly as you have given it.

Charles and Deborah were married Dec Quarter 1905 Birmingham 6d 103.

Twin sons -Alfred and William - were born June Q 1907 Birmingham 6d 105. A William age 0 died Sept Q 1907 Birmingham 6d 51.

Charles died Mar Q 1912 Birmingham 6d 142 age 69, which means he was born around 1843.

There are three Deborah Matthewes born between 1862 and 1890 - I suspect yours was the one born in 1886 in Aston. That means she was considerably younger than her husband.

She married again a few months after Charles died, to Henry MILLWARD Sept Q 1912 Aston 6d 01. I think Henry is the one who died Dec Q 1916 Aston 6d 400 age 40. He appears to have had two children from a previous marriage - Edward born 1896 and Florence born 1892.

I couldn't find her death or any further marriages - but FreeBMD hasn't been fully transcribed yet.

I hope this helps.

I don't think we're connected, but the way I do it is to go to http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ and click search (in red about half way down the page). Click on 'Birth' at the top of the form, then fill in the 'name' field, the year of birth (put in Mar 1914 to Mar 1915 to be on the safe side). Willenhall is between W-ton and Walsall. I did a search for Walsall (that turned up nothing) and W-ton which turned up: BROOKES, Jack; Mother's name= Maddox; District: Wolverhampton; Volume 6b; Page 1306. If you are convinced this is your Jack, then this is sufficient information to order a certificate. Please note that the free BMD online GRO index is not complete and there may be other Jack's that have not yet been transcribed on line. according to the site, 1914 looks fairly well transcribed, except for the last quarter. You then have to decide if its worth taking the chance and if you have any other information that points to this as being the correct 'Jack'. Would it be worthwhile searching Brooks? Our surname seemed to change from Brooks to Brookes about half way through the 19thC.

Hope this is of some help. Of course, others may have diferent ideas!

Best wishes

David

I just received a copy of his 1873 marriage certificate which has his age as 30 -- and his father as John Brookes, occupation tinker. In your experience which is more accurate -- census, or ? I see you have both a John and a Thomas Brookes on your line. Could our Thomas be related?

They had two chidlren born in Brierely Hill the 8 more children when they moved to Fazely, Warwickshire.
Re: Brookes of Warwickshire/ Staffordshire

I am researching Thomas Brookes born 1832 Brierley Hill. I am looking at Benjamin Brookes as his possible father. The Thomas Brookes I am looking for died in 1881,in West Bromwich, married to Rebecca Corbett with children Sarah, Eliza and Henry Thomas. A fourth child William was born after his death. I think he was married prior to Rebecca because of the age difference. Anyone have information on this Brookes branch?
