I have been trying to find more information to fill in a chunk of my ancestral tree that has a huge slice missing!! My paternal grandfather's Mother is as far back as I can go in that direction. He never asked her, apparently, about her family. He was allowed to name himself when he turned 6 years old in 1910, and he named himself after his favorite uncle, he told me before he died, 19 years ago. HIs Mother's name was Nancy "Cumi" or "Cuma" Brooks, and his favorite uncle was Powell Brooks. My father, myself and my first son all have "Powell" for middle names, and I would LOVE to be able to find Powell and Nancy's parents (records of). All I know is this:
Nancy was born at home 8 May 1871, in Greenville, TN. (I am not sure if that is Greenville, or Greeneville).
She married William Henry Brininstool, Jr on 26 Feb 1891 at a Mrs. Mary J Gardner's house by a methodist pastor. Their first 2 children died witin a year or two of birth, 2 or 3 more were born and then the couple moved to McKinney, TX and had many more children. (12 total include first two that dies). The family bible was lost in a fire in the early 1930's, and no one alive remembers Nancy's sibling's names or parents names. I just remember grandpa telling me just before he died that he named himself after his favorite uncle Powell Brooks.
Does ANYone remember seeing a Powell and Nancy Brooks as siblings born 1870+/- 20 in Tennessee?
