My GGGG grandmother Lydia Brooks (1757-1853), wife of Rufus Allen, of New Marlborough, Mass, and later Braceville, Ohio, is reported (per long-standing, though somewhat questionable, family history), to have been the daughter of a Native American (Amerindian) mother. Her father was Jabez Brooks, of Killingly (later New Marlborough). All that is really known about her mother is that her first name was Sarah (which doesn't sound very "Indian" to me). She had brothers David, Benjamin and Jabez, Jr., and a sister Zilpah (who married Eliakim Hamilton). My question is whether anyone in Lydia's (or her siblings') lines have done DNA testing (obviously mitochondrial dna testing in a direct female line would be the most meaningful here) that would indicate that Lydia and her mother were (or, as I strongly suspect, were not) of American Indian descent?
