Joseph F. Brooks, Company K, 37th Regiment, Infantry, VA, died Sept. 23, 1861. His National Archives & Records Administration number is M382 roll 7. He entered & left as a private. This regiment was organized in Washington County, VA in May 1861 & accepted in Confederate service in July. It reported 5 killed & 34 wounded at McDowell, Va. He is one of 85 confederate soldiers buried in a field in Monterey. The field is to be turned into a community park. We are looking for living relatives of Joseph F. Brooks to invite to the opening of the park. A small marker is to be placed on each of the known graves. At the gate, a large marker with the info on all 85 is to be placed for all visitors to view.
