Hello Bross,

I'm not sure if you still subscribe to this ancestry site. I am responding to a post that you made 12 years ago in December of 2000. It's January of 2012.

Are you still in search of Eliza (or Elizabeth) Bross who married George Shue? If so, please respond and we may have information to share. I have a little amount but we never know, it sometimes is enough to make a breakthrough.

Best in 2012,
Craig

My grandfather was the Joseph stanislaus Bross of whom you mention. We lived with him in the house that he built in Portland. He died of a stroke in our home.

We did not know our grandmother Mary Washer at all. She died two years before i was born.

I have their wedding photos. Grandma Mary was extraordinarily beautiful in those photographs. Grandpa was a handsome young man and a skilled bricklayer. He helpted build the Orpheum Theater in Portland. He also helped build the meeting house in Metzger Park, Tigard. He bought property in Metzger on which to build his house, and the acreage included lots for his children: Iness, Henrietta (my mother), and his son Bud. Iness married Chuck Herold and they moved. Bud built his house there, Mother took care of Grandpa in the original house, and Iness's lot stayed empty while we grew.

The family was/is located in Quincy, IL, Hannibal, MO and Palmyra, MO. I'm also looking for contact information on a cousin who was working on the Bross Family History - her name is Shirley Dunlap and she lived in Rolla, Missouri but now I can't locate her.
One of my ancestors was also named Jacob Bross. I think he had more than 2 children but perhaps only 2 survived. I have that his children were Elizabeth, John et al. John was born 10/24/1770 (I think). He married Elizabeth Long (b 1778). They had 11 children, although there is a little confusion here. He had a John and Jacob or had a John Jacob. I have a birth year for Jacob as 1802 but nothing on John.

I come from the line of Jacob Broce and Elizabeth Long.

Be glad to share what I have.

George was born 8/17/1830. It appears that there are 2 sets of parents by the name of Jacob and Sarah.

Two brothers came to America at around that time, they were sent to MO to blacksmith, another one or two came and opened a furnace company in PA. I have a cousin with much family history on the Bross side. And an Uncle with letters sent in the 1800's (in German) from the folks in Germany and they speak of the PA relatives. My grandfather born in 1904 was Henry A Bross, his father was Theodore Bross, and I believe Theo's dad was Henry also.

Looking for parents of Jane Ann Bross b. 1828

My paternal GGrandmother, Jane Ann Bross, was born in NY in 1828. Family info says she married George Gregory on 27 Dec. 1845 in Hillsdale, Michigan. By 1850 census she was definitely in Hillsdale. She died prob. in or around Crete, Nebraska, abt 1881.

Jane Ann's mother was born in NY and father in New Jersey. An uncle, Harmon Bross, was also born in NY abt 1836. Harmon's mother was Theodosia, who appears to have been widowed early. I can't get much farther than that in the family web, and it's driving me nuts! Would much appreciate any help you can offer.

I have been searching for family of Henry Bross, who lived in Union Township PA, to share information. The Henry you mention may perhaps be a son. However, I have a draft notice for Henry Bross who was born in 1821. I'm attaching a scan of that document. If you are not this relation and know of other Henry Bross relations I'd like to know who they are so I can share this document.

Addie Bedford-Guernsey Broas

Addie Bedford born 15 Sept 1879 in NY, and died after the 1930 census. She married Guernsey K. Broas 1898 in Orange County, NY. He was born March 1873 in New York, and died aft the 1930 census.

The 1900 census finds Guernsey and Addie living with widowed Ophelia Broas, born Aug 1852NY, and siblings in Montgomery, Orange County, NY.

Addie and Guernsey lost one child between 1898-1900. Bingham E. Broas was born 16 Sept 1902 in Montgomery, Orange County, NY; and died October 1976 per social security death index. His last known address was Walden, Orange County, NY per ssdi. He married Melba Sutton 1923 in Montgomery, Orange County, NY. She was born in 1907 in New York and died after 1930 census. Note Melba was an unusual name and my search found a Melba Sutton in Montgomery, Orange County, NY in 1920. More research is needed to verify as fact.

Children of Bingham and Melba were Gerald E. Broas born in 1925 in Montgomery, Orange County, NY and Melba M. Broas born in 1929 in Montgomery, Orange County, NY.

Further research: ancestry MyFamily Finder shows the following: Althea M. Broas, age 78NY resident; Gary A. Broas, age 33NY resident; and Gerald E. Broas, age 80NY resident within one household. Althea appears to have predeceased Gerald E. as Gary and Gerald are living together later.

Jay Bross, mother in law :

Sarah E Booth married Franklin Wainwight North 14 May 1874 in Buchanan County Iowa USA

Her parents were Jeremiah Booth and Jane Henderson.
His parents were James A North and Martha J Newland

She died in 1905 of tuburculosis in Alva, Woods, OK, USA

This is her obit

Obituary Sarah E Booth 1905 (The Alva Pioneer Friday 29 Sep 1905). "Mrs. S.E. North aged 48 years and 29(?) days, died of consumption at 1:30pm, Friday Sept. 22, 1905 at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bross in their city. Mrs. North had been a patient sufferer for several years past, and about two months ago came here to visit her daughters Mrs. Bross [Grace North married Jay Bross] and Mrs. G.C. Stairs [Jenny Elnora North married George Stairs]. Her strength [?] gave way a month ago, since which time she was confined to her bed and she gradually grew weaker until death relieved her suffering. She had been a consistent member of the Christian church for many years and bore her sickness with resignation. She leaves three sons, three daughters and many other relatives to mourn her death.

Any information, please, regarding Caspar Bross (my great-great grandfather), born in Prussia in 1843,immigrated to Philadelphia, PA. He married Sophia Bance (who was supposed to have been born in Philadelphia). Their daughter, Clara Bross (my great grandmother), was born in Philadelphia on Aug. 24, 1865. She married Joseph Chambers (my great grandfather). Joseph's parents were George Chambers and Cecelia Donahue. Joseph and Clara's daughter, Clara Chambers (my grandmother), was born on June 23, 1891 in Philadelphia. Any information regarding the Bross or Chambers families of Philadelphia, circa 1840-1890, would be greatly appreciated.

Scott -- I'm not familiar with either of the names you mention and the family I'm researching appears to be soley located in the New York area (never made it that far north or west). Sorry, but at this time, I don't see how they're connected. -- Jeff
