Broughers in Bucks County, PA?

My ancestral relation Gabriel Philipps married Hannah Brower 1758 at Tohickon Union Church. It is possible that the name was actually Brougher not Brower. The scribe misspelled Phillips as Philipps so I guess that the Brower could have been Brougher.

Do you know of any Broghers in PA at the time?

I have re-examined the info that I have on Aaron BROUGHER of Donegal Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA and see no reason to change any of it at this time except to add that he married Susan BRUBAKER, dau of Henry BRUBAKER and Nancy WOODAL.

His father was Pierce EVANS and his mother was Mary Ann BRAUCHER/BROUGHER, dau of Frederick BRAUCHER/BROUGHER and Nancy EARL of Highland Co., OH. Alvaro and a few of his brothers were in the gold fields of Calif. and then went over to Reno. I've been tracking Alvaro BRAUCHER who was in the same gold fields with them. He is listed as being born ca 1829 in Ohio.

Hi
My grt grt grand Lucinda Brougher’s (b 1830) brother was Beji. Brougher. His son, Amos Leonard Brougher (b 1852) married Emma E. Hauger (b 1852). I have Clara A. Brougher as their daughter
(b 1879) married to Jonah Simpson. I show 3 children: Harold Aber Simpson (wife-Helen D), Emma Lula Simpson (husband- William Wayne Coursin) and Hartford Frank Simpson (wives-Mary Kohan and Paige.) How do you fit in?
My mothers cousin passed away last year and filled in letters from 1976 from her sisters as to their genealogy. I only knew her by phone for 4 years. She was living in Jones Mills Westmoreland county PA until recently. One of the letters that Lucinda Brougher’s mother was a Dickey from Somerset county. Some speculation as to Peter Brougher and Madaline Dickey as her parents. Benji Brougher , Peter Brougher and Madaline Dickey and Lucinda’s family are next door on 1850-1860 census (also no the 1867 Pennsylvania atlas with the first initial and surname on each township, etc maps.

If you are using Family Tree Maker software we can exchange outline decendant trees and family group sheets as pdf files.

Gordon

I am researching, along with Bob Banks, the Broughers of York, Adams & Cumberland County. I believe they are all closely related.

I believe William is the son of John Brougher (1801-1880) and Sarah Speck (1801-bef 1880), because John lived in Washington Twp., York Co., in 1840, but moved onto Dover Twp., York Co. by 1850. William was living in Washington Twp. in 1850.

Found the wife of William Brougher today while Googling:

HON. WILSON BROUGHER. No compendium such as the province of this work defines in its essential limitations will serve to offer fit memorial to the life and accomplishments of the honored subject of this sketch — a man who is remarkable in the breadth of his wisdom, in his indomitable perseverance, his strong individuality, and yet one whose entire life has not one esoteric phase, being an open scroll, inviting the closest scrutiny. Truly, his have been "massive deeds and great" in one sense, and yet his entire life accomplishment but represents the result of the fit utilization of the innate talent which is his, and the directing of his efforts in those lines where mature judgment and rare discrimination lead the way. There are in Hon. Wilson Brougher a weight of character, a native sagacity, a far-seeing judgment and a fidelity of purpose that command the respect of all. A man of indefatigable enterprise and fertility of resource, he has carved his name deeply on the record of the political and business history of the state, which owes much of its advancement to his efforts.

Mr. Brougher has for twenty-eight years been a resident of Nevada. He is a native of Pennsylvania, his birth having occurred in Adams county on the 19th of July, 1854, and is of Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry. His parents, William and Susan (Snyder) Brougher, were also natives of Pennsylvania, whence they removed to Iowa and are now residents of Nebraska. William Brougher has been an active farmer, having cleared and developed several farms, meeting with well deserved success in his undertaking. In his political views he has been a life-long Republican, and his family are Lutherans in religious faith. To him and his wife were born five children, of whom three are yet living. The mother, however, departed this life in 1868, and William Brougher is now in* his seventy-seventh year. H. C. Brougher, one of the sons, is a prominent mining man in Tonopah, Nevada.Hon.

Wilson Brougher was educated in the public schools of Iowa, pursuing his studies through the three months of winter, while in the summer seasons he worked upon his fathers' farm, early becoming familiar with the duties and labors that fall to the lot of the agriculturist. He was twenty-one years of age when he arrived in Nevada, having come to the west to make his own way in the world. He had no capital, but possessed resolution and determination, and today is numbered among the distinguished and wealthy men of the state, having attained to this proud position by reason of his marked ability and sterling worth of character. He began to earn his living here by cutting wood and burning charcoal in Nye county. Later he turned his attention to merchandising, and in 1876 he was called from private life to public office, being elected sheriff of Nye county on the Republican ticket. He served for one term so acceptably that he was re-elected, and at the close of his second term he was nominated and elected auditor and recorder of the county. No higher testimonial of his capability in that position can be given than the statement of the fact that he was elected to the office for six consecutive terms, serving for twelve years. He then resigned that position to accept the nomination for state senator from the district formed by Ormsby county. He made a thorough canvass of the county and was elected by a majority of one hundred and seventeen votes. In the senate he belonged to the minority party, but nevertheless was active and influential in affairs pertaining to the welfare of the state. He gave his closest attention to the public interests and has left the impress of his individuality upon the legislation of Nevada. At the time of the first rich discovery at Tonopah it was Mr. Brougher's good fortune to become one of the first owners of the Mizpah, Bureau, Valley View. Desert Queen, Sand Grass and Red Plume claims, these being eight of the original claims in a group, and he is now the possessor of one-eighth interest in these. He is also interested in the Belmont, and the property is now being developed. The mines are attracting a great deal of attention because of the richness of their ore, and in two years Tonopah has grown to be a town of between four and five thousand inhabitants. It has been through the development of its mining interests that Mr. Brougher has gained his capital, becoming one of the wealthy men of this state. In July, 1902, he purchased the Arlington Hotel at Carson City, and this is now the leading hotel of the city and one of the best hostelries of the state. It is located in the center of the business district, has sixty sleeping rooms and is splendidly equipped throughout, no pains being spared to add to the comfort of the guests. This hotel is the headquarters of the leading men of the state, of the state officers and of the state legislators when the general assembly is in session.

In 1885 Senator Brougher was united in marriage to Miss Julia Cannon, a native of Illinois and a daughter of Edward and Julia Amelia (Manvill) Cannon. To them have been born four children, three daughters and a son: Ida S., Alice J., Nellie M. and William Henry. Senator Brougher is a member of the Masonic fraternity, the blue lodge and chapter, and Royal Arch degree. He also belongs to the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

He is a business man of marked integrity and ability, and has a wide and favorable acquaintance throughout the state. Starting out in life for himself with limited educational privileges and with no financial assistance, he became imbued with a laudable ambition to win success and prominence, and has steadily advanced in these walks of life demanding intellectuality, business ability and fidelity, and today commands the respect and esteem not only of his community but the state. Over the record of his public career and his private life there falls no shadow of wrong, for he has ever been most loyal to the duties of friendship and of citizenship, and his history well deserves a place in the annals of his adopted state.
Source:
A History of the State of Nevada: Its Resources and People
By Thomas Wren, Lewis Publishing Company
Published by The Lewis publishing company, 1904

http://genealogytrails.com/nev/nye/bios/brougherwilson.html

He was selling Pansy's old hats and I just bought most of them! There are still receipts in the bottom of boxes with Cooper's name. He must have really loved her. Looks like he bought her a hat every time he saw one she might like. You could probably get in touch with him at the Antique Mall of Denton on I-35.

Trying to find information on Fannie Brougher born in Kentucky. She married Joseph Hause, had two children with him, but neither survived according to the U.S. Census. Fannie died in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1904. There is a headstone at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Salt Lake City, with the names Fannie and Ida Hause. Ida was another of Josephs wives, she died in 1906. Cemetery records state her body was held over in SLC, then removed to Kentucky for burial the same year.
I have no further information and would love to know who her family was.

Hi I've worked on my genealogy for 10 years. Benji Brougher's sister, Lucinda is my 2nd great grand mother. On the 1850 Donegal Westmoreland census Benji Brougher lives next to Peter and Madeline Brougher and Charles, Lucinda (Brougher) Ulery. I have Benji's son as Amos Leonard Brougher b.10 Mar 1852 and his daughter as Clara A. Bougher b. Apr 1879 I can send e mail group/descendant files -adobe pdf files or FTM files if you like. I do not know how or IF they go through by posting on roots web?? There are more decendents that are substantiated. I have 3 generations of Broughers going back in time from other people. This the first I've really used Rootsweb in a while because I finally dropped Ancestry Com. I hope this reaches you. Reply please

Gordon
Re: David Broughers??

I came across a couple of David Broughers while researching in York Co. Pennsylvania four years ago. David Park Brougher is the son of David D. Brougher and Alverta Williams. David D. Brougher is the son of Samuel Brougher and Lydia Lauck. I believe Samuel Brougher is the brother of my ancestor, John Brougher, who was married to Eleanor Gregory, the widow of George Lauck. Both John & Samuel are listed consecutively in the 1840 census under "Braucher" and both are blacksmiths. Attached is the descendancy chart for Samuel Brougher. If anyone knows the maiden names for some of the wives of descendants, I would be grateful for the info.

Does anyone know of a name change from BROUGHER to PROFFER (particularly in the Lincoln County, NC area during the 1790-1817 time period)? My generation one American ancestor was a John Proffer b. 1758 in Germany, d.1838 in Crump, Cape Girardeau Co., MO. His first son, George, was born somewhere in PA in 1781 (according to later census records), and the rest of his known children were born in NC between 1790 and 1814. He and his family left NC in the fall of 1817 and settled in Cape Girardeau Co, MO in the spring of 1818.

Broughers in Indiana - changed to Brower?

I have a g5 grandfather Urious Brower in Greene and Sullivan Counties, Indiana. Urious was a Civil War veteran in the 80th Indiana Infantry, and his pension files say he was born in North Carolina. I believe he had a brother named Phillip Brower who served in the military with him and lived nearby; their records are always on the same page in the censuses.

I have reached a very frustrating dead-end trying to find parents, birthplaces, ancestors for Urious and Phillip. Could they be part of your family with a sudden name variation?

E-mail me direct at webjules@hotmail.com.
Barry:

Please do not automatically assume everything you hear related to this family is true. There are so many individuals in the Brougher family which all carry the same name that more information is needed before you can ascertain the true information. Some of the information in the previous post is incorrect. We will need to know the name of your grandfather as well birth dates or death dates to properly identify your grandfather. If you would like more information, please contact me directly.

Lora,
I am not descended from Jacob but I have been in contact with someone who is and, I am sure, would be very eager to have that piece of paper. Today my husband started to take apart my coputer and I shall be off line for at least a couple of days. I will try to get the message to the other person as soon as possible.

BROUGHER surname

Laura, [and anyone else who's hit a dead end],
Try looking under the surname BRAUCHER. That is the original name. Many of our ancestors used BRAUCHER and BROUGHER. I guess it depended on what kind of a mood they were in that day.
