Joseph Brooks, 1881 Canadian Census, Tingwick, Quebec CA, wife Francess, several children, one of which was Barthalemy (between 29 & 33) according to familysearch.com) was my paternal great grandfather (known as Bartholomew Brooks in the USA). Would appreciate any info from anyone regarding ancestry of Joseph and Francess. Hopefully, Marie

Re: Brousseau/Lafrance

Delima LaFrance Couture(dit Seam) was my paternal great grandmother. Her father was Honore Couture (Henry Seam in USA). Delima and Henry's daughter, Leda Couture Brooks, who married my grandfather Joe A. Brooks, born in Quebec to Bartholomew Brooks, the son of Joseph and Francess Brooks. They can be found in the 1871 Canada Census. The original surname was Brousseau but the 1871 Census Record that I have found via family search.org lists them by their anglicized surname Brooks. The Brousseau/LaFrance/Couture connection was the marriage of Leda Couture (Seam) and Joe A. Brooks. Good hunting! Anymore questions, post another query! Marie

Finding my Brousseau Clan

I've been working on my family tree for a number of years now. I started with my father's side of the family based out of England (The Heritage clan) and now I've turned to my mother's side of the family based out of Ottawa, Ontario (The Brousseau clan).

I have been fairly successful so far going back with just my mother's information (Pauline Theresa Brousseau born 1929 in Ottawa). I found my grandfather Antoine Philias (Felix) Brousseau born 1881 in Carlsbad Springs, Ontario and my grandmother Hazel Mary White born 1903 in Duluth, Minnesota.

Here's my problem. I know that they had 12 kids, 6 sons and 6 daughters, my mother being one of them. I can't find any connections to the rest of them. Hopefully someone on this board can help.

Cheers,
Brian Heritage

Yes, some of the children were born in New York State. We (those of us working on this family several years ago) determined that it was Clinton County. At this point in time I honestly can not recall why we decided on Clinton County. It might be in a letter someplace in the multiple correspondence notebooks I have and one of these days I will sort through those looking for that answer. My husband and I actually went to Clinton County several years ago and researched in the courthouse and with the county historian, but I don't believe we ever could prove that OUR Pierre was there. There were people there with that name, but we could not make a positive identification. I tend to think that IF there is an answer it might actually be in Wisconsin, perhaps in a church record.

I have some property descriptions to send you, which deal with Peter buying and selling land. However, they would be much easier to send in an actual e-mail, versus this system. If you are not comfortable going to e-mail, I understand.

I have never seen any reference to the fire in the research on this family.

Have a good weekend!

Carol
JNCL2@cablespeed.com

I would love to see the obituary for Therese. I would be willing to reimburse you for a copy and postage. I don't have as much paperwork on my mom's side of the family as I would like. My dad spent most of the time working on his side of the family, so I have pretty solid resources for them. He only started working on my mom's family, and I took over about a decade later with his scattered notes and census records.

As far as I know, Gabriel was born in New York, so they must have spent some time there. If I knew which county, it would make research a little easier.

Do you know anything about this family and the Peshtigo Fire? I have read that the fire spread as far south as Wrightstown, but I was wondering if they were affected, since they are a little further south of Wrightstown.

Thank you for the geographic info! I didn't know where the farm was. I'm going home at the end of the month, and actually going to a wedding in Holland, so I'm going to drive around the area between the wedding and the reception to find the cemetery and where the farm was located. I tried to find it online, but the only plat map for that area on Historic Map Works is for 1889, and Pierre died in 1887. I still looked, but I didn't find the Brousseau name(or a version of it) anywhere.

Thanks again! I like comparing notes. Let me know if there's anyway I can help you out. Thanks!

This is from research that was done for me in Brown County several years ago, relative to Peter's burial:

"I found a record of Peter's burial, it is in the St. John's Cemetery in the town of Holland (circled on 1880 tract). It is only a mile from the homestead. It belongs to St. John the Evangelist congregation located in Morrison township, which is located one mile east of the cemetery and 2 miles southeast of the homestead. [Re' Therese] She appears nowhere in any cemetery record in the county."

This research was done circa 1984, so there may be more cemetery records now available. Her obit does say she was buried in the Morrisontown cemetery.

Most of my research on this family was done in the late 1970's through the 1980's. A lot of it was collaboration with several other descendants of Pierre and Therese. None of us, at that time, were able to take them back to Canada. Some current individuals on Ancestry.com have "given" parents to Pierre, but I have not seen any definitive documentation. It has been quite some time since I have actively pursued the search! However, I am always interested in finding new information! If there are some other specific questions you have, do let me know.
Have a great day!
Carol Maki; Port Ludlow, WA; JNCL2@cablespeed.com

Gabriel was my great-great-great grandfather. I'm from Appleton, Wisconsin, and my family still lives there. I'm currently located in Alabama. I make frequent visits back to Appleton, so let me know if there's any footwork I can do for you.

I'm not much help, but I'm looking for the same thing. I'm also looking for the birthplace of Therese. I'm going back to Appleton at the end of the month, and hope to find Peter's gravestone. The Wrightstown area isn't very large, so I think I can narrow it down. I'm hoping to find Therese's grave and a birth year. This is one of the few points in my family history I cannot develop. It stops with her. How are you related? Please let me know if you find anymore information, and I may have some family info you may need.

I have lately seen about ten different birth dates for Eloise Brousseau married to Michel Ledoux. Even her family had wrong information when they published her obituary.

She was born in St-Ambroise-de-Kildare, Montcalm county,Quebec 22 Jan 1852 and baptized 24 jan 1852 to Olivier Brousseau and Marguerite Lamontagne. At her baptism she was named Marie Elmire and not Eloise or Eliza. She may have found it easier later to adopt a different name.

This information is found in the Drouin Records available on Ancestry.com among others.

Maurice Ledoux

Looking for any help finding information on my grandfather Edward Brousseau 1919-1997, he married Florette Lemelin, and she passed away around 1981, then he later married Rose, I don't know her last name at all. I know that he lived in Southington, Connecticut. This is all the other information I know so far, he had a brother Joe, or Joseph, who was married to Helen, they lived in Gladsberry or Middlesex, or Middle something. It think he was born in 1917 I know she got altzimers when she got older, they lived down by the river. There was a Pearl Brousseau who married Pat? A Bernice who maybe married John Cornela or something similar, also there was a Agnus and Walter, Agnus was Brousseau not sure her last name after marriage to Walter? There was Dottie or Dorthy who I believe married Johnny Brousseau, and who may have children Tommie and Steven, but honestly this is all info my older sick aunt remembered so I am not sure at all? If anyone can help at all I would apreciate it sooooo much.

My great grandma was Leontine Brousseau, she lived in Berlin, CT when she passed away and she lived to be over 100, I think 103, but I cannot find the newspaper article on it, that was there mother, and she was from Canada, I think her last name may have been Marie Leontine Beaulieu but I don't know for sure this is just really a guess? please help!! Thanks, and my grandpa's name was Joseph I believe.

My fathers name is Michael Jerome Brousseau, born in CT in 1955, married Jane Tassie of CTand his brother is Edward Ronald Brousseau, goes by Ron married to Joyce Smith, and the oldest sibling was Regina or Reggie Brousseau who married first Butch Lyles, and then Donald Briggs, and all live in New Mexico now.

My email is joemeleagles@msn.com if anyone has any info on any of the families above, thanks sooooooooo much!!

Melanie Brousseau Trujeque

I am trying to find decendents of Walter Arthur Brousseau b. 1903 in R.I. *(I don't know if he had any decendents) or decendents of his brothers: Ernest F., George Edward, or Herman Noel. Their fathers name was Noel, mother was Josephine Saucey.
My grandmother married Walter A. Brousseau, he died in CA in 1955. I was trying to find any Brousseau family to see if they have any info or pics of Roxie Easley Brousseau, Walters wife, and Walter. I have not been able to find any children of these brothers, etc. to see if they have any info. If you know of any of them or anything that might help, please contact me at sluglegs@hotmail.com

Thanks,
Janet Easley Cottrill

I have been looking for information on Andrew Brousseau (my gg grandfather)and can find very little about him. He was born about 1859 in Canada and died 10/30/1909 in Duluth, MN. He married Virginia Auger about 1901 and they had 5 children, Edith, Eva May, Philias Leander, Alma Mary and Francis Omar.

Andrew came to the US through Detroit, MI about 1884. By 1901 he was in the Duluth / Cloquet, MN area.

My Brousseau line goes back to Francois Brousson who was born about 1635 in St. Louis, Beauvais, Picardie, France. His son, also Francois, born abt. 1666, came to Canada and died 08 Jun 1740 at Ste. Anne, De-La-Perade, Champlain, Quebec. His son, Jean Pierre Brosseau was born 26 Aug 1696 at Batiscan and he died 08 Jun 1762 at Vercheres. And his son Joseph, born 28 Jan 1732 was the father of Augustin Luc Brousseau who married Josette Gagné in 1794 at Repentgny. They had several children including my GGG grandfather Basile Brousseau, Sr., baptized 12 Jul 1808 in Varennes. Basile and his family used the dit name "Lafleur." Basile joined the HBC and ended up as the Dairyman in Fort Langley where he raised a family and never returned to Quebec. I am very interested in what happened to his siblings, as I don't see this family anywhere in Quebec in the 1881 census. Did they go south to the United States? Anyone else researching this line?

Hello Lizette
Yes I did find the information I was looking for regarding this couple. In the early 1880,s they left Buckingham and
moved to Eau-claire Wisconsin. Around 1900 they left Wisconsin and moved to Duluth Minnesota. All of this couple,s children were married in the USA.Jean-Baptiste
Carriere dit Jamme had a brother named Edouard who had also lived at Buckingham.Edouard was married to either a Renaud
or a Labelle (first name Emilie). Edouard and Emilie,s
family remained in Quebec ans most of their children were married in Buckingham.

Hello. I believe we are trying to track down the same people. My G-Grandfather was William Brousseau married to Amanda Thibodeau. From the MA census records, I know the couple was living with Amanda's family in 1900. I have tried tracking William down in NY about two years after his given birth date(1880 census), but the closest thing I've found is a "Willie". Unfortunately, the information from the 1890's census which was damaged is lost and that would have been critical. My home-town historian even looked through copies of baptismal records for that time period and we came up empty. My next thought was to try and track down marriage records...I believe William and Amanda were married at St. Leo's...but after contacting them via email and getting no response, I'm discouraged again. My hope was that the marriage records would contain the names of William's parents. I am totally stumped...and it has been hard wading through all the inaccurate information...including mis-spellings, wrong dates etc. Anyway, if you'd like, let's compare notes and see what we come up with.

Re: Brousseau mailing list-Joseph E Brusseau & Rosanna Lagrandeur

I am looking for Joseph E Brusseau, b. 1865 in Sainte Hélène, Québec, Canada, m. Rosanna Lagrandeur, b. 1868 in Sainte Céçile, Québec, Canada. According to censuses in Massachusetts, he emigrated to NH abt. 1877 and she to NH abt. 1881. Their first 8 (out of 13) children were born in NH according to censuses in Hampden County, MA. I believe his father to be Joseph Brousseau, mother to be Elizabeth Dore; and her father to be Edouard Lagrandeur and mother to be Angélique MNU, all from Québec, Canada.
If anyone can help with any information on the ancestors of these 2 families, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you know the name of your Brousseau – or where s/he was from in Quebec?

My Brousseau ancestor left Quebec about 1833, joined the Hudson’s Bay Co. as a voyageur, and ended up in Fort Langley, BC, Canada. But what happened to the rest of his family I really do not know. I have his ancestry back to the 1600s in France, but I don’t know his brothers or sisters and there must have been many! My theory is that they went south to the US – as did so many.

Now here’s the thing – my high school French is hopeless and I couldn’t figure out how to do Quebec Research either, but where I got the family line from was from a very kind man in the US – from the American Canadian Genealogy Society: http://www.acgs.org/

Have you tried there?
Joanne

Unfortunately I can't read or write French. From the little information I do have, I believe some of my relatives come from Quebec, because my Great Grand Mother was from the[Cree] Native American 's that lived in Quebec.I am stumped on finding information on Her also .She married a Brousseau and they are from upstate New York in the Altona area. I don't know the correct spelling of Her name so that does not help the situation but I keep trying.

While downsizing my home library, I came across a copy of Girl's Companion Feb. 29, 1948. In it was a contest entry, a poem written by Shirley BROUSSEAU of Hampton Falls, NH.

I would like to give this issue to Shirley or to her family.

Lois
Bradford,MA
abl0nd2nd@aol.com
