I am trying to find decendents of Walter Arthur Brousseau b. 1903 in R.I. *(I don't know if he had any decendents) or decendents of his brothers: Ernest F., George Edward, or Herman Noel. Their fathers name was Noel, mother was Josephine Saucey.
My grandmother married Walter A. Brousseau, he died in CA in 1955. I was trying to find any Brousseau family to see if they have any info or pics of Roxie Easley Brousseau, Walters wife, and Walter. I have not been able to find any children of these brothers,etc. to see if they have any info. If you know of any of them or anything that might help, please contact me at sluglegs@hotmail.com

Thanks,
Janet Easley Cottrill

I have been looking for information on Andrew Brousseau (my gg grandfather)and can find very little about him. He was born about 1859 in Canada and died 10/30/1909 in Duluth, MN. He married Virginia Auger about 1901 and they had 5 children, Edith, Eva May, Philias Leander, Alma Mary and Francis Omar.

Andrew came to the US through Detroit, MI about 1884. By 1901 he was in the Duluth / Cloquet, MN area.

My Brousseau line goes back to Francois Brousson who was born about 1635 in St. Louis, Beauvais, Picardie, France. His son, also Francois, born abt. 1666, came to Canada and died 08 Jun 1740 at Ste. Anne, De-La-Perade, Champlain, Quebec. His son, Jean Pierre Brosseau was born 26 Aug 1696 at Batiscan and he died 08 Jun 1762 at Vercheres. And his son Joseph, born 28 Jan 1732 was the father of Augustin Luc Brousseau who married Josette Gagné in 1794 at Repentgny. They had several children including my GGG grandfather Basile Brousseau, Sr., baptized 12 Jul 1808 in Varennes. Basile and his family used the dit name "Lafleur." Basile joined the HBC and ended up as the Dairyman in Fort Langley where he raised a family and never returned to Quebec. I am very interested in what happened to his siblings, as I don't see this family anywhere in Quebec in the 1881 census. Did they go south to the United States? Anyone else researching this line?

Hello Lizette
Yes I did find the information I was looking for regarding this couple. In the early 1880,s they left Buckingham and
moved to Eau-claire Wisconsin. Around 1900 they left Wisconsin and moved to Duluth Minnesota. All of this couple,s children were married in the USA.Jean-Baptiste
Carriere dit Jamme had a brother named Edouard who had also lived at Buckingham.Edouard was married to either a Renaud
or a Labelle (first name Emilie). Edouard and Emilie,s
family remained in Quebec ans most of their children were married in Buckingham.

Found my gg grandfather Regis in the 1881 census, in Ste-Paul-l'Ermite, L'Assomption, Quebec. Looking for Regis' parentage - does anyone have the parents of this guy? There are many Brousseaus, older, that could be his parents living in the next houses, also in the census. But I don't have the information to sort out the relationships. Any help is appreciated.

Some of Regis' children:
Aglaie (probably Maggie?) Female, French, Age 11, birthplace Quebec;
Medard (probably Edward) Male, French, Age 9, birthplace Quebec;
Joseph (probably our Joseph, who married Emma) Male, French, Age 7, birthplace Quebec;
Louis, Male, French, Age 5, birthplace Quebec;
Anastasie, Female, French, Age 1, birthplace Quebec;

P.S. Regis wife is Osiline (Azeline) Gariepy, born 1853 in Mascouche, Quebec.

Re: Alexander Brousseau

Michael, likely Michel, is listed as Alexander's father on his death certificate. I'm not sure my g-grandfather Alexander was born. My uncle, Eugene, recalls visiting family in St-Agathe-des-Monts area, around 1930, 1940.

I've checked the Canadian census of 1881, 1901, 1911 & I think 1861. Even when you include Brousseau variants there are not many Michel/Michael's . I'm searching now for descendants of Michel Brousseau and Celina Brunet/Brunette hoping they may know if this is the correct Michel.

Michel and Celina at least have Terrebonne County connections and Michel is about the right age. If this is the right Michel, Celina is not the mother of Alexander. Michel & Celina were married in Ste-Sauveur, Terrebonne, PQ 5/11/1863. Alexander was born about 1855.

Michel was born about either 1816 or 1819 depending on the source. I'm able to trace Michel's ancestry back 4 generations and have identified siblings married in St-Sauveur and St-Janvier, Terrebonne, PQ. Michel And Celina had eight children.

1. Joseph m. Louise Labelle, children Francois & Rosa m. Leopold Desrochers.
2. Xavier.
3. Celina m. Napoleon Geurard.
4. Rosina m. Francois Paquet.
5. Angelina m1. Gideon Grenier, m2. Cleophas Dumoulin.
6. Celestin.
7. Cleophas m. Alexina Paquet, son Napoleon m. Lucie Maille.
8. Evangeliste m. Georgianna Paquet.

Please reply if you recognize any of these names or have any information on Terrebonne Brousseau's. Thanks.

Re: Brousseau, Oliver or Joseph

Hi Kathleen. I have some information about Brousseau's in the Albany, Renssealear, Columbia, and Greene County areas of NY. Not sure if all are related to each other. Oliver appears as the witness with Margaret Donna to the Sept 1871 wedding of Mack, (Mark?) Bruso & Mary Burdo at St Mary's RCC in Coxsackie, NY. My grandparents Alexander Brousseau & Lucy Lacroix were also married there on 11/15/1873. Their fathers' names were Michel & Nelson respectively, mothers' unknown. Other Brousseau's appear in those records though it's possble they're un or at least not closely related. I'm currently at a dead end with Brousseau/Lacroix line, though am focusing on Terrebonne Co, at least for the Brousseaus

There were Brousseau's in Hudson - Edward, Theodore, J.B., and a mention at least of a Napolean. All I think related & possbly from LaPrairie/St Philippe.

Edward & Theodore were brick manufacturers, Edward quite well known. Bricks a common industry & employing many in this area of NY are common to many of these Brousseaus.

I've got more detail if any of this connects to your line and would be interested in any info you my have that might be related to my line. Thanks.

Unfortunately I can't read or write French.From the little information I do have, I believe some of my relatives come from Quebec,because my Great Grand Mother was from the[Cree] Native American 's that lived in Quebec.I am stumped on finding information on Her also .She married a Brousseau and they are from upstate New York in the Altona area. I don't know the correct spelling of Her name so that does not help the situation but I keep trying.

Hello. I believe we are trying to track down the same people. My G-Grandfather was William Brousseau married to Amanda Thibodeau. From the MA census records, I know the couple was living with Amanda's family in 1900. I have tried tracking William down in NY about two years after his given birth date(1880 census), but the closest thing I've found is a "Willie". Unfortunately, the information from the 1890's census which was damaged is lost and that would have been critical. My home-town historian even looked through copies of baptismal records for that time period and we came up empty. My next thought was to try and track down marriage records...I believe William and Amanda were married at St. Leo's...but after contacting them via email and getting no response, I'm discouraged again. My hope was that the marriage records would contain the names of William's parents. I am totally stumped...and it has been hard wading through all the inaccurate information...including mis-spellings, wrong dates etc. Anyway, if you'd like, let's compare notes and see what we come up with.

I'm hoping you can send me another. As far as leocadie being part indian. It is a good chance she is. She comes from and old acadian family. Some people believe most of the early acadians were metis. Not much proof though.

 I am looking for Joseph E Brusseau, b. 1865 in Sainte Hélène, Québec, Canada, m. Rosanna Lagrandeur, b. 1868 in Sainte Céçile, Québec, Canada. According to censuses in Massachusetts, he emigrated to NH abt. 1877 and she to NH abt. 1881. Their first 8 (out of 13) children were born in NH according to censuses in Hampden County, MA. I believe his father to be Joseph Brousseau, mother to be Elizabeth Dore; and her father to be Edouard Lagrandeur and mother to be Angélique MNU, all from Québec, Canada.
If anyone can help with any information on the ancestors of these 2 families, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Paul
Thanks for the response. There are two parts to this reply:

Part 1

In the Casselman, ONT church register it stated that:
1. Napoleon was married on 08/Jan/1894,
2. that he was born in Pointe Gatineau, that
3. His parents were Delice and Virginie.

The Pointe Gatineau "Regroupment de Familles" records state that Napoleon was born 07/mar/1873.

If his father Delice was born in 1862 then he fathered Napoleon at the tender age of 11.

Have you found any marriage records involving Delice and Virginie Lavictoire?

Part 2

I have not used the Quebec GENWEB page but will. If I have any problems maybe you can assist.

Where do I find these volunteers, and how do I request assistance?

I did look in the the Canada East census of 1851 and 1861. I feel I am going blindly into this. I only know that Napoleon was born and married in Gatineau. Delice and Virginie are something of a mystery.

HELP!
Do you know the name of your Brousseau – or where s/he was from in Quebec?

My Brousseau ancestor left Quebec about 1833, joined the Hudson’s Bay Co. as a voyageur, and ended up in Fort Langley, BC, Canada. But what happened to the rest of his family I really do not know. I have his ancestry back to the 1600s in France, but I don’t know his brothers or sisters and there must have been many! My theory is that they went south to the US – as did so many.

Now here’s the thing – my high school French is hopeless and I couldn’t figure out how to do Quebec Research either, but where I got the family line from was from a very kind man in the US – from the American Canadian Genealogy Society: http://www.acgs.org/

Have you tried there?
Joanne

While downsizing my home library, I came across a copy of Girl's Companion Feb. 29, 1948. In it was a contest entry, a poem written by Shirley BROUSSEAU of Hampton Falls, NH.

I would like to give this issue to Shirley or to her family.

Lois
Bradford,MA
abl0nd2nd@aol.com
