Please give your sources. Thanks
Of course there is no documentation for a 1657 Schenectady Birt/baptisms, Schenectady was settled from 1662 on, church records have all been burnt in 1690.

Re: Does anyone know Tunis Brewer/Brouwer?

I find it interesting that Tunis is located next to my ancestor, John Christian in Philipstown of the 1790 census. His wife is said to have been Jane Brower b 1750.

I haven't seen an Brewers or Brouwers mentioned in the town records for Philipstown and Putnam Valley (online anyway) so have to wonder if he arrived from another area. Actually another individual doing research says he was found on the tax list for Southern Precinct, Dutchess from 1754-1765.

Hello from Holland.

I'm working on my ancestors in the "de Vries" branche.
Got quite a bit up, and as it seems, your grace de Vries is in my family tree. If you want, I could supply you with quite some details. Me myself, I am very much interested in the "American" branches of our family, cause my grandfather (who recently passed away) always talk a lot about them, but the papers he kept on them and our family got lost after his death. Anyway, even if you don't have any data I need, I will be glad to supply you some of mine. Just let me know on: onno.de.vries(at)gmail.com
Thanks Tony! Great additional info to add to my history story. And thanks for the clarificaiton on the voyage info - I'll check it out further and add it to my website. Regarding the missing headstone, we stood on the exact site where the stone should have been, and there is nothing there now. So perhaps if it was an inlaid ground stone, over time it broke up and was discarded? Please send me your e-mail address for further correspondence.

After my last posting, I decided to see if I could find a manifest for Gerrit Harmanus Brouwer and his family in Ancestry's records. And I did find it! The arrival date was May 14, 1883, but it was on the SS Leerdam -- not the SS Schiedam. I had to view the original pages and look for the names, as transcription can sometimes be very difficult. They are found on the bottom of page 11 and the top of page 12 of the manifest. They were transcribed as Brenner rather than Brouwer, and for some of the grandchildren, were transcribed Brimmer rather than Bergsma.

Thank you Cindy, for that very well done site. We share a common ancestor in Gerrit Harmanus Brouwer. According to Dr. Swierenga's book on Dutch immigrants, he arrived in the US on 14 May 1883 on the SS Schiedam. He was accompanied by his wife Johanna, his daughter Taetske with five of her children, his daughter Antje, and his youngest daughter Grietje. Taetske's husband, Sjoerd Bergsma had immigrated in 1882, probably to prepare for his family. And Gerrit's daughter Doetje immigrated in 1889.

Grietje, born 1866, was my great-grandmother. She married Albert Folmer, another Dutch immigrant, in about 1884, and they had a son before Albert died. She then married Peter Piersma in 1888, and my grandmother Johanna was the oldest of their eight children.

Peter Piersma died in 1903, leaving Grietje to raise nine children by herself. She lived her entire life very near the area you reference, on Thomas St. She died in 1957. In page 61 of chapter 8 on your site, the woman on the far right in the top right picture looks like pictures I have seen of Grietje.

A few years back I visited the Oak Hill cemetery and found a headstone for Gerrit Brouwer. It is in the portion south of Hall Street near the western end. It was right near the bottom of a gentle slope, and was a small headstone flush with the ground. It showed the dates 1825 - 1912. I took a picture (digital) but lost it when some files got corrupted. I don't live near there, but hope to get back soon to get a picture again.

I would be happy to provide my email address if you would like more information on my line from Gerrit Brouwer.
Brouwers from Bergen New Jersey 1700's-- iso Rachel Brouwer

In my family records, we have a Rachel Brower/ Brouwer who married Zacherias Sickles. She listed her father as Jacobus Brouwer the third and mother as Maria. However, Jacobus Brouwer and Maria Delanoy have well established genealogical records, and there is no Rachel in any of them. I ran across a person who listed Jacobus as married twice, 2nd to Jannetje Hartje, with two children listed Racehl and Lea. I am trying to confirm Rachel was from this Brouwer line. I have found a record of her death in 1778.

BROUWER -- WACHELDORF

My grandfather was Herman M. BROUWER who was born in Milwaukee, WI. Jan. 10, 1868. (this date might not be correct) I don’t know if this is right or not but somewhere I have his father as Henry Brouwer. Herman had four brothers and one sister that lived in Michigan at the time of his death in Sioux City, IA. on Dec. 11, 1928.

The brother’s names were:
Simon
Richard (Dick)
ED
Henry
And one sister that I only know as Mrs. Clyd Willyarde.

The time line from an obit I have on Herman M. BROUWER is:

(1)	1868 Born Jan. 10 Milwaukee, WI.

(2)	1886 Moved to Orange City, IA. at the age of 18

(3)	1888 Moved to to Armour, SD

(4)	1890 Moved to Sioux City, IA.
until his death in 1928.

************************************************************

Herman married Mary Ann WACHELDORF on March 09, 1897 in Ute, Monona County, IA.
Mary Ann was born in Germany. She died in Sioux City, IA.
on Jan. 10, 1955 and is buried there next to Herman.
Herman and Mary had five daughters and one son.
New York, Brouwer to Brower to Brewer

Reading a book of the Journal of William Henry Brewer "Up and Down California." Introduction has a little genealogy in it I thought I would post. W.H. Brewer was born 1828 in NY.-
"A Dutch Ancestor, Adam Brouwer Berkhoven, had come to New Amsterdam in 1642, but as generations passed in the New World the name Berkhoven was dropped and Brouwer became Brower. Not until after the American Revolution did the further transition to Brewer occur."
Hope this helps someone. This is not any of my family lines.
Where did you find the information on when they came over. I have not been able to find this. I have alot of information on there decendants. Also the Arend and Catherine you mentioned did have at least one son. (They were on the 1870 census here in Michigan Ottawa Co. Arend, 31 Farmer, Cathrina 29 & Jan 8) I know Roelof is the son of Arend Tiemes and Willempje Wessels. Also Roelof had at least one brother Tiemen born about 1797 Tiemen married Lammertje Vander Voort Dec 5 1821.

Yes, I have been doing alot of searches on GenLias. That site has been a big help. I am a decendant of Roelof's son Willem and Derkje Dijkema. There has been some confusion on the year Willem was born I have Nov 25 1844. (His tombstone has 1844 and the 1880 census his age makes him born in 1844) Derkje was born Dec 18 1853 she was the first one in her family born here in the US. Derkje is the daugther of Kornelis Derks Dijkema and Anje Berends Westing. They were from Groningen, Netherlands.

I have alot of informaition that I would be happy to share with you including photo's. (I have a picture of Willem and Derkje along with tombstone photo's of Willem & Derkje's and Roloefs and Aaltje's tombstones.)

Michelle Williams
ml_aggf@yahoo.com
