Jacob Brower b. 1773 in Maryland

Looking for information about Jacob Brower b. 1773 in Maryland. He had a son named Solomon b. 1816. Solomon's death ctf. indicates that he was born in Cincinnati OH in 1816. Father was Jacob and mother was Mary Sawyer. Solomon married Evaline Waits and they resided in Elizabeth Indiana. Jacob is shown in 1850 census in Frankin County, PA. I know there are many Jacob Browers. Any information to help me sort all of this out would be so very much appreciated. Carole

Hi, I hope this is still of interest to you. Harvey Brower who was married to Betsey Morehouse had several children. Their 1st names were, Lyman, Caroline, Harriet, Olive,Mary and Charles. I believe that Lyman was killed in the Civil War. When Betsy passed away, Harvey would remarry to Arabella Mott Parks. He would have 3 children with Arabella. Their 1st names are, Frank, William and Alva. My tie to all of this really comes through William. So I connect to Harvey through Arabella and not Betsy. I hope this helps. Let me know if you get this information. Thanks - Paul

For your info I just found William Brower in the 1860 Census in Broadalbin, Fulton Co. N.Y. He is listed as age 41 so that would put him abt. 1819 Mary Ann age 46 so abt. 1814. Children listed are Almira 19, Adaline 15, Abram 11, Matilda 9 and Mary 5. Mary must have died between 1860 and 65 the same for William and Mary Ann. Andrew is missing from this census. He would have been 21 so might have been out working.I am off of Mary Ann Peck Brower.

I have Browers in Oneida Co, NY that have a lot of the same names. Most are common names but Abram did catch my attention. I have David Abram Brower born @ 1775 and wife Rox William, parents of John abt 1798, David abt 1801, Wm, about 1807, Edward, abt 1809, CAtherine, abt 1811, Abram, abt 1815, Esther, abt 1818 and Mary Ann abt 1820. This is a hard family to pin down. Some of them moved to Illinois and Iowa and then on to Nebraska. My line is through Catherine who married Edward Mott. They moved to Illinois and then on to Nebraska where they died. I do have more infoon some of the descendants. One other name that catches my attention is Almira/Almina, I know there is a granddaughter with this name. It is an unusual name. I have to go to work right now and have company for the next few days but I would love to look at this more with you. I would think there might be a connection somewhere.
Debbie

Re: extended family

Dear Roberta,

I assume you want to find more on the ancestry of Charles DeWitt Brower and/or find other relatives. There is a tree on Ancestry by kunaqbrower that includes your Charles DeWitt Brower. This tree shows Charles was born in Manhattan, NY. If you are descended from the NY Browers, it is likely you descend from one of about three major progenitors of the Brower/Brewer lines.

I find Charles D. Brower and wife Asiangatak in the 1930 census of Noatak Kobuk, AK. In 1920 with wife "Ahskaugatuc" in Barrow, AK. In 1910 with spouse "Assinatak" of Noatak Kobuk, AK, and in 1900 in "The Territory from Point Hope Across The North Slope to Where Alaskan Boundary Touches Arctic Ocean, Northern, Alaska Territory, Browerville, Northern Supervisors District, AK." You can find a lot of information by reconstructing the families from the census records and other legal documents.

If you have any male family members, carrying the Brower surname, have you considered DNA testing? It can go a long way in helping you determine your ancestry, if you get a match with other Brower/Brewer males who have taken the test. The more people that participate in DNA testing of all surnames, ethnic groups, etc., the more beneficial it is for everyone researching those same lines.

Hope this helps.

gensrchr14

Donald
I know this is an old message but I am also descended form Jeremiah and Keziah (Mabb) Brower by his son Joseph R and Rebecca (James) Brower. After years of searching for the 1860 census, I finally found Jeremiah and Keziah Brower in it. Let me know if you have it or not. They were originally listed by mistake during transcription as Jeremiah and Keziah Brown.
Connie

Re: Brower Family Crest?

The thing with Family Crests. Well, I would not spend alot of effort with them. I know a professional geneologist who is hired by the LDS church to research. She is very good at what she does. Heres the deal. Just because there is a family crest that says Brower doesn't mean a whole lot. These crests are only given as a special gift from the King when something outstanding was done for Royalty. and even if your ancestor has a crest issued from the king, does not mean we as decendents have any rights to them. so there is a big misconception regarding famiy Crests. IN the US however, families are now designing their own and having them notorized as belonging to your family. then if someone does something wonderful for community, mission, military, or whatever, then they can recieve an earned family crest. It's great because you can design your own and begin a tradition that can be passed down through generations and have it symbolize whtever you want. so there you have it.

Hello Demaris, I'll put the Brower Coat of Arms on my Ancestry Member photos so that you can see it..all my family trees are public so you will be able to access them if you are a member. Having said that, I'll try to describe the Coat of Arms to you.
The shield has 3 doves, a star of david and crossed swords. Above the shield is a dove sitting on a depiction of a knights helmet and amaranth leaves. Beneath the shield is a banner with the following phrase: Vrit Vochten Nederland

The explanation of the Brower name follows:
Brower is a surname of Dutch derivation, coming from the word Brouer, meaning a brewer. The name was early represented in the New Amsterdam Colony by Willem Hendricks Brouwer, who came over from Holland before 1665. He established himself as a farmer and becamae a land owner of considerable importance in the colony of New York. The spelling of the name was changed from Brouwer to Brower by Gillis Brower, fifth in descent from immigrant Willem. The family intermarried with the Vedder, van de Boga(e)rt, Bancher, Bogardus, and many other of the old Dutch families of New York State, New York was founded in 1664.

I happen to be a descendant of Adam Brower Berkhoven,
Ann

Good morning David,
I'm not too sure about the significance of the Star of David also known as the Star of Bethlehem. My opinion would be that it might have been a symbol of the Knights Templar when they made the crusades to Jerusalem and were awarded their lands and Coats of Arms on their return to England. I'll be doing some more research on this you can be sure...interesting question.
