Kate M Wairhaye or Worihaye birth to J.E. Browning 1888

Kate M Wairhaye was married to Joseph Delana Browning 5 Oct 1887 in Henery, KY. J.D. Browning died 21 Apr 1888 shortly before having his son named Joseph Elliot Browning Brn 23 Nov 1888.
Kate shows up in a later census married to a Anton Moline or Maline and the record shows Joseph Elliot Browning as the step son to Anton. Kate married Anton in 1894 and had other children with the Moline name.
I can find NO record of the birth of Joseph Elliot Browning from Kate and Joseph Sr. Looking for this record.
Regards, Dale

I haave a James A. Browning, born about 1795 near Hillsboro,
NC, that I have not been able to place with parents and past family. He fought in the NC Army during the War of 1812, then migrated to Claiborne County, TN, married Martha Sheckels (or similar spelling) and raised a large family there. He was my g-great grandfather. I am sure he is from one of the VA families, just don't know which. Will you look in your books and see if you can find a reference to him, and let me know how to get the books, physically or on-line?
Many thanks,
Barbara Chambers

I have the Browning Families book and didn't find your James. The Browning Families by William Neal Hurley has been reprinted and is available to purchase at Amazon.com The other book, Genealogy of the Brownings in America from 1621 to 1908 by Edward Franklin Browning is out of print, but could turn up on Amazon or Alibris to buy. You can also ask at your local library if they will try to get it through Interlibrary Loan for you.

Good luck,

Becky

Nov 1828 and (when he was 9 yrs old) he had George Perry Browning, who was b. Mar 1837? Are you sure of that birth month/yr for William?

Gail,

I agree we need to try to work together more. There was someone who answered on this thread who had an ancestor that moved to Texas. My earliest Browning is Perry Lafayette born in 1843, probably in SC. His mother was Lucinda (Lucy). I don't have her last name. He had an older brother James and a sister, Mary. I latter found the family in Gastonia, NC. He was living NC when he married the first time to Margaret Slone Shannon and had a child Sarah. There is a family story that he got into a fight with his uncle and thinking he killed him, fled to TN and that there were other branches of the Browning family there at the time he arrived in TN. I know he was living in TN when he married the second time in 1868 to Mary Elizabeth Bayliss. There has to be a relationship between the Brownings in NC and Southern VA and TN. How to find it has been the problem.

Marion

I have traced back to Noah Browning. He was born in the 1820's and married Elizabeth Herndon in FL. I have reason to believe his father was either Joshua or Josiah and his mother was Lydia Godwin. Do you have any information that would help? I think Noah was born in GA as was Elizabeth "Betty". They are both buried in Joshua Creek Cemetary in Arcadia FL.

Eli B. and Benjamin Browning of Jackson, Jefferson and Monroe counties in GA

I'm looking for direct ancestors of brothers Eli B. Browning and Benjamin Browning. Both came to Georgia from Maryland, possibly Montgomery County, Maryland. Book "The Georgia Frontier: Colonial families to the Revolutionary War Period" By Jeannette Holland Austin says that Eli B. and Benjamin are "believed to be the sons of Benjamin Browning'' who is listed in Montgomery County census in 1790 but who died after 1803 in Jefferson County, Georgia.

My family has not been able to substantiate the Benjamin Browning of Montgomery County connection nor find any records of him in Jefferson County except for a Benjamin Browning listed as grand juror in 1797.

We have Eli B.'s will and other records for financial dealings in Georgia but no records of his parents. Any help in this area is greatly appreciated.

Mack Browning
Plantation, FL

Goldie M. GROOVER (b. 1902-1942)
Dessa M. Browning5(b. April, 1899)

According to my grandfather, he remembers two aunts, Mary Henricks (possibly Hendricks?) and Min Daley (possibly Dailey, Daly, etc) But couldn't spell them for me.
Lawrence and Goldie's Children:
Johnnie, Harry, Harley, George, Beaulah,Carolyn, Marilyn, Anna Mae, Phillip (died as a baby), Maxime (died as a baby) Leroy (died as a baby)Garnet

Johnnie is my maternal grandfather

I would also love any information regarding Lawrence and his siblings, if you have it.

If you have any information or want dates for confirmation, please get back to me A.S.A.P.
Noah Browning was the son of Joshua and Lydia Godwin Browning. He appears as a 22 year old with them on the 1850 Lowndes Co GA census. You are correct in that Noah and Elizabeth Herndon were born in GA. This is reflected on several census reports.

Noah is my GG grandfather and I have a good bit of information on the Browning family and will be glad to share. Are you related?

Janet Browning - Australia

Hi everyone, have just found a Browning connection by marriage - namely a Presbyterian minister, John Browning, who immigrated to Portland, Victoria, Australia in around 1850 and set up a school there known as Browing's School.

I just came across a post from 1997 by a Janet Browning who I'd be very keen to get in contact with but the email no longer works. This was the post:

"Hi All,

I am looking for any descendants of:-

James & Agnes MILLAR. wife (nee White)
married 31st December 1799 at Kilmarnock Scotland.
James was a Wool, or Silk Merchant, and in 1841 were living in Eastshaw
Street, Kilmarnock.

Their youngest son Hugh, and youngest daughter Janet emigrated to Australia
in about 1850.

Does anyone have any knowledge of other children of James and Agnes, or any
information regarding their business ?

Please email replies.

Regards. Janet Browning, using a friends email address jlb@magnet.com.au"

If any one knows of these Brownings (John also has a brother, James, who immigrated to Portland) or knows this Janet Browning, I'd love to hear from you.

Regards,
Elizabeth Coutts.

Reuben was a common name in the Browning family. Here are the Reuben's I have listed in my Browning family line. Reuben Browning, son of Francis Browning and Frances Norman b. 31 Mar 1759 Culpeper Co., Va.d.21 Sept 1844 Logan Co., Ky. married Sarah Duncan b. 1761 d 1840. They had the following children: Isaac Browning, David Browning, almon Browning, Reuben Browning, Mildred Browning and Sarah Browning. Their son Reuben Browning b. 1793 d. 1880. He married a Moriah Browning and they had 3 sons. James M. Browning, George W. Browning and Benjamine Browning. He then married a Mary J. Mcadoo, and a 3rd wife...Mary A. Clasby. No children from the last two marriages that I have record of. Also....will make note of David, Reuben's brother...had a son and he named him Reuben b. 1815. I do not have a death date or a spouse. His mother was Susan Hopper (Hooper). It was very common for the sons to name their 1st born son after their father. A second son usually carried the mother's father's name. Hope this helps in your research. Also check census records. They will give you the names of the wife...children....ages...and if a parent was living with them. Hope this helps....

Re: John N. Browning (1808 Ky - aft. June 1871)

I should revise my count of John N. Browning and Catherine Bramel's children. After a decade of research I've found that some of the Browning boys I originally thought belonged in this family really don't belong.

One, in particular, was George W. Browning (14 Feb 1829 - 10 Jan 1914) I thought belonged to my family. But I obtained his MO death record and it said he was born to Amos Browning and "Miss White."

The Bramels were quite a prolific bunch and I have had a hard time sorting out all the Samuels, Catherines, and Alexanders.

Samuel and Margaret (Markee) Browning -- CORRECTING ERRORS

I am writing this post to correct some errors I've noted concerning the family of Samuel Browning and Margaret Markee, who married in Harrison Co., OH in 1815. I've researched Sam & Margaret's family for nearly ten years and have quite a large amount of original documentation on the couple and their descendants. I've seen many family trees on Ancestry continue to perpetuate these errors and I'd like to take the time to correct a few seemingly popular errors on this family if I could. Seeing erroneous information passed about in the Ancestry files is making me shudder.

(That said, if anyone has any documentation to the contrary concerning anything I say here, I'll be the first to do any alterations necessary in regards to it! Please feel free to contact me at "locogirlp (at) juno.com" (without the quotes and adding the "at" symbol) if you have information for me.)

To read the corrections, please follow the link provided below (I tried to post it here but the formatting made it impossible to read):

http://genforum.genealogy.com/browning/messages/4026.html

Thank you.
