parents of Albert H. BRUCE b.1828

Albert H. Bruce was born in Westford, Middlesex Co. MA in b.1828, moved with his family at age 2 to Oneida Co., NY. He was raised and educated in Oneida Co. He married Elizabeth Malvina Janes of Oneida Co. b.1827. This Janes family is well documented in the cemetery records, census records of the area. Albert and his wife left New York in the spring of 1852 for Illinois. There is a good write-up of Albert in the History of Grundy Co. IL.
Albert's parents would have left MA in 1830. The census records for the exit out of MA or the entrance into NY have not been a great help.

Other Oneida research resources are requested or direct help with this BRUCE family appreciated.
Bruces of Montgomery County/Boone County Indiana

I am looking for info on the family of a man named Bruce, b Indiana, who marries Mary J. Morris in or near Montgomery County, Indiana in the 1860's. I believe that he was the James H. Bruce who marries Mary Jane Morris in that county on 10 Nov. 1864. However, I do not know more about James H. Bruce.

I do know that Mary J. (Morris) Bruce will mother two children, Eddie Bruce (b Oct 1866) and John T. Bruce (b ca 1868). She either divorces or becomes widowed as she will marry James H. Kelley in Boone County Indiana in 1879 and mother's one more child, Otis Kelley (b 1880) by him.

I believe that Eddie is the father of her grandchild Elmer Bruce who lives with her in the early 1900's. Elmer will later marry a woman named Pearl.

John T Bruce probably marries twice, definitely once to Lonada E Miller in Boone County in 1898. He has two daughters by her: Irma and Fern. Irma marries Kim R Brooks in Marion County, Indiana 17 Jun 1925.

Any gap filling will be wlecome.

BRUCE family. All related???

Hi All,

I believe that all BRUCE's are connected esp, in United Kingdom as the first Robert De BRUCE (there were several before Robert King of Scotland) brought the name BRUCE, De BRUS, BRUICE, BRYUS over from France when he came over with William the Conqueror. The BRUCE name originates from BRYUS in France.

I think the notion that "We are related to Robert The BRUCE, King of Scotland" comes down through families with that surname. I too was told this by my Dad whose Gran was Mary Ann SLIGHT BRUCE.

I have traced back to John BRUCE and Elizabeth YOUNG married 1781 Crailing, Roxburgh, Scotland and had two children, Mary bn, 1789, Kelso, Roxburgh and Thomas bn, 1791 also Kelso.

John was my 4th Great Grand Father.

Thomas BRUCE (his son) my 3rd Great Grand Father.

I also have a John BRUCE (Grandson of John BRUCE and Elizabeth YOUNG) who married a Mary BRUCE who was the illigitimate daughter of Ann BRUCE bn, 1795 in Bamburgh, Northumberland, (daughter of Thomas BRUCE and Ann RAMSAY of Tweedmouth) so the line splits into two BRUCE lines.

I have found Thomas BRUCE aboves possible Father's Thomas or John BRUCE bn, abt 1735 and their possible Father's John or James BRUCE bn, abt 1700 Tweedmouth but there the line goes cold.

My Great x 2 Grand Father died in Stockton on Tees, England in 1886 and was married to Mary Ann Slight bn, 1808 in Kelso, Scotland.

Do these names ring any bells to anyone?? Are you researching the same lines and can you help me in any way?? Willing to share info.

Many regards.
Val.

Place and date: Fire Support Base Tomahawk, Quang Nam Province, Republic of Vietnam, 1 March 1969. Entered service at: Chicago, 111. Born: 18 May 1950, Michigan City, Ind. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a mortar man with Headquarters and Service Company 3d Battalion, against the enemy. Early in the morning Pfc. Bruce was on watch in his night defensive position at fire support base tomahawk when he heard movements ahead of him. An enemy explosive charge was thrown toward his position and he reacted instantly, catching the device and shouting to alert his companions. Realizing the danger to the adjacent position with its 2 occupants, Pfc. Bruce held the device to his body and attempted to carry it from the vicinity of the entrenched marines. As he moved away, the charge detonated and he absorbed the full force of the explosion. Pfc. Bruce's indomitable courage, inspiring valor and selfless devotion to duty saved the lives of 3 of his fellow marines and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Michigan City, Indiana

Cemetery: Greenwood Cemetery

Born: 1950 Michigan City, IN

Died: 1969 Killed in Action -- Awarded Posthumously.

Additional Information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_af/bruce...

Note: This is not my ancestry.
Hello!

I am hoping someone can help me! I am trying to do reserach on my dad's side of the family. My dad Thomas James Bruce passed away in January 2006.His father was Wesley Leonard Bruce born on 9/16/1898 in Tennessee (I think Knoxville?) My grandpa passed away when I was only 6 on April 11, 1979. He barely spoke about his family, so we really don't know much. He married my grandma Katie Savoni in 1938, I think in Utah and they had two children Judy Bruce and my dad Thomas James Bruce. We think he was married previously and I am pretty sure he served in WWI. We also think there was a baird link somewhere in this family. can anyone provide information? If so, I would love to hear from you!

Thanks!
Kim Allan
rangers_fan@msn.com

I´m desperately looking for some help in my genealogical research of the Bruces.

This I know: Eric Gustav Bruce born 1868, moved from Gothenburg, Sweden to USA in 1888. He married Anna Emilia Johansson (or maybe Thulin) born 1874. Anna Emilia moved from Gothenburg, Sweden to USA in 1893. They both came from Gothenburg but they found eachother in the States.

They had five children: Eric J or C Bruce born 1901
Axel Herbert Bruce born 1903
Edna Ingaborg Bruce born 1905
Doris Emilia Bruce born 1909 *
Robert E Bruce born 1911

Eric Gustav Bruce and Anna Emilia lived at least from
1910 to 1930 in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts.

* Doris Emilia Bruce was cousin with my grandmother
Ingeborg Thulin. Ingeborgs son is my father.

Doris Emilia married a man named Leo Zentgraf born 6th of
August 1906, he died july 1981.

Any help in this Issue would be appreciated. Big thanks in advance.

Bruce, Susannah Robertson - Charlotte Co. VA 1814

Interested in who this person might be and where she later lived. Named in the Joanna Robertson Will in Charlotte Co. VA written 1814.

"I give to my two daughters, Nancy Farley and Savannah Bruce all my wearing apparel to be equally divided between them."

I research the Farley line. Nancy Robertson married Archer/Archie Farley. Their daughter, Joanna Farley, is also mentioned in the will but without the relationship stated.
Bruce Line William, George, Frank, (Geo) Robert PA to IA

Ok I'm going to try this again to see if I can find any connections.
William BRUCE - (not Robert WIlliam Bruce), there have been many posts about my family that list his name as Rbt Wm. I have absolutly no evidence that this was his name. Every record I have says William. Born 1797-1800 (by census) where-?? records indicate Scotland, Penns., Virginia and at Sea (Scotish). Wm married Hannah MIESS (Mies, Meese, Mease) in PA abt 1830-1832 before the birth of their first child in 1833. Christiana (later Anna) was born 1833 in Centre Co., PA. Then James abt 1835, George in Huntingdon Co., PA in 1936, Catherine 1838, Hannah 1840, William H 1842, Jacob 1843, Sarah 1846, Amelia 1847, Harriet 1850, John Wells 1855 and Laticia O. 1859, in Illinois.
Christiana married Daniel Ruben CLAY in Jo Daviess County, IL.
James married Lovey Brighiot? in PA
Catherine ??
Hannah?? Last known in Kansas in 1906.
William H married Jennie V. BURLINGHAM in Linn County, Iowa
Jacob ?? some online indicate he married Sarah FISHBURN, but I have no proof of that yet.
Sarah ?? Last known in Kansas 1906
Amelia ??
Harriet married Whitman Coal GIFFORD in Linn Co., IowaLast now in Missouri.
John Wells married Marie B SNEATH in Illinois. Later lived in Iowa.
Latitia ?? Last known in Kansas in 1906.

And my line is George Bruce b may 1836 in Huntingdon Co., PA married to Harriet MAPLES in JoDavies Co, IL in 1868. They had the following children-George Frederick b 1870 in Freeport IL., Franklin Jefferson b Benton Co., Iowa 1871, Edward Walter b 1873 Benton Co., Iowa, Irvin Floyd b 1875 Benton Co., Iowa, Byron Andrew "Bide" b 1878 Benton Co., Iowa,Ruby Ada b 1879 Benton Co., Iowa, and Cora b 1885 Benton Co., Iowa.

My line continues down through Frank to George Robert b 1901 and my dad, Clarence "Dale" b 1930. They were all born in Benton Co, Iowa.

I would like to correspond with anyone who has these lines.
William is my brickwall. I think his parents may have been JAMES AND CATHERINE BRUCE, but that is highly speculative at this point.
Thanks for all replies
Sheri, Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Caldwell's of New Concord, Muskingum county, Ohio

Looking for information on the Caldwell family who lived just outside of New Concord Ohio. Census calls it Union, Muskingum County Ohio. This family seems to have arrived to this area early 1800's and lived in the family home into the 1900's. In the mid 1800's Andrew Caldwell and his wife Jane raised their family of many kids there. Names include Jane/Jenny, Margaret, James, John, and Walker. Jenny married John Robinson and I think Walker lived his life in Zanesville. I think that the original owners were Andrew's mother Jane and his father who died before 1840. Father's name unknown. They must have been a big presence in the area as they were there for many many years. If you have a connection to these folks, I'd like to hear from you. Robbin Robinson

BRUCE of Lewis County, KY

I have a copy of my great-grandmother’s cookbook, “The Kentucky Home Cook Book”, compiled by the Ladies of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, Maysville, Kentucky, from 1884. It has a collection of ‘receipts’ from nearly 200 Kentucky women, including Mrs, Thomas J. BRUCE of Lewis County, Kentucky. If you connect to the BRUCE family, and would like a copy of the recipe, I would be happy to email it to you.

I am the son of Goldie Viola Thompson ne: Bruce (Oklahoma-dob: 18 Jun 1903) and King Thomas Janes (Texas-dob: 16 Jul 1893). Goldie was said to be 1/8 Cherokee. She passed when I was quite young and I don’t know much about her or my father’s ancestry. Prior to Goldie’s marriage to King she was married to Cortez Thompson. I have found that family in the 1930 census. Listed there is her mother, Martha Bruce (Arkansas-dob: 1873). I can find no record of Martha’s husband or ancestry. I am just starting this research and am looking for any assistance you can give. I am also really interested in the Cherokee connection.

Thanks,
Bruce
