Re: Elmer & Margaret Bruffy

Here is a letter I received on from Robby [RLRobby@webtv.net]
It tells the name of the museum where Uncle Elmer's memorabilia is! Hurray!

Hi,

I was at the privately owned Waverly, NY, memoribilia museum mentioned in Joan Edwards reply yesterday (Wed. ). I was there to sell a few items to the owner, Don Merrill. While I was there I noticed a small display of Elmer Bruffy memoribilia. But I didn't get a chance to check it out.
Gotta do that sometime. When I got home I "googled" Elmer Bruffy & come up with this address: http://boards.ancestry.co.uk My personal memory from the 1940s is that he pulled, by himself, a Greyhound Bus down on Broad Street, Waverly, NY, with a tow rope between his teeth. I never saw the hanging stunt, but I had heard about it. Him & his wife, Margaret, lived in an apartment at 447 Fulton St. Waverly, NY. At one time his wife had a beauty shop at 431 Fulton St. I was his paperboy for a while & I think I remember him giving me a souvenir lead pencil when l delivered his paper one time. Very sad that such a strong, daredevil guy, that he was, died in that manner.

Museum Address:

Donald Merrill
535 Waverly Street
Waverly, NY 14892

Phone: (607) 565-7365

Hope this helps,
Robby

Hello,
I just read your message about the Bruffeys from Richwood, WV. I have a newspaper account about a Bruffey Reunion in Nicholas or Webster County, WV. Do you know if any of your Bruffeys are descendants of John Bruffey and Eleanor (Elinor) (Nellie) Bruffey. I am so would like to make comparisons if yours are.

Thanks.

Saw Bruffey Messages today (11-15-2004) and wondered if anyone has found anymore info on family of Dixon Bruffey and Anna Bell Bruffey.
And
Does anyone one know a Paul or a Douglas in this line that was in World War 2. They would have been around 18 to 20 years old while in service. I know they are related to Dixon Bruffey Line somehow. I think Douglas was the son of a Blanche. But I don't know who Blanche is. Paul must be a cousin or something??
Does anybody know about Dixon's wife Anna Bell ??
Any info on Dixon Lineage would be appreciated. Warren in Indiana.
I am looking for information on a Mark Bruffey. Our family Bible contains the birth dates of a number of my Ewing ancestors. However, one name stands out and doesn't seem to belong in this Bible: "Mark Bruffey, born February 12, 1798." We have Bruffeys in our family tree, but none with the first name of Mark. Do you have any idea who this Mark Bruffey might be and what his relationship to the Ewing family of WV would be? Thanks for any help you can provide. Wally

I am lookinf for any information anyone may have regarding Elmer Bruffy. He was a stuntman who died during a performance while hanging himself. He is somehow related to me but I can't find the connection. My grandmother referred to him as Uncle Bruffy. I think she was related to Margaret but I can't find out any more information. I have several articles related to his dare-devil stunts if anyone wants more information.

Do you know if they were the West Virginia area Bruffeys or the Shenandoah Valley area Bruffeys? My line is from a Mark Bruffey who settled down in Greenbrier Co, whereas his brothers John and Patrick settled in Pochahontas County. It appears that at least one line of Patrick's descemdents settled in Bath and Gilmer, Va., areas, where one of them eventually married a Lowther, descended from the Col. who sold land to my Thornhill ancestor.

John Bruffey at Valley Forge

John Bruffey is one of the several hundred verified as having passed the winter of 1777 - 1778 in camp with George Washington, Marquis de Lafayette, etc. I'm fairly sure this is John Bruffey who settled in what's now West Virginia, husbank of Elinor "Nellie" MacDonald, and father of John, Patrick and Mark. Anyone have any facts or theories in addition or to the contrary?
