I'm looking to see if I can find any information on my Brule family connections. I've spoken with my mother in-law and she doesn't have much information either. Here is what I have:

- Ginette Janine Marcell Brule (b.7/23/1933 Chartes, France d.1/11/2003 Burton, MI) married David Ervie Gipson (b.3/29/1939)
- Ginette is the daughter of Paulette Ceceile Desiree Brule (b.6/7/1914 France d.1942 France) UNKNOWN FATHER but confirmed that he was from France and he was a baker by trade
- Paulette is the daughter of Ernest Raymond Brule (b.?? d.August 1942) and Josephine Emileinne Coujiere (birth and death unknown) both are known to be in France

That's all I have, does anyone have any information that might help me connect some dots here??

Exilia Brule's father is Olivier Brule, B: November 2, 1814 in St. Cuthbert, Arthabaska, PQ. Her mother was Marie Praux,
B: 1816, PQ. They married January 25, 1842 at St. Pierre les Becquets.
Exilia had 4 brothers that I know of.

Isreal Brule : B:January 24, 1844, Bois-Francs, Arthabaska, PQ, d. 1895 Lewiston, Maine, USA

Israel married Exilia Bernard, B:May 1847, Arthabaska, Quebec.

They had 9 children, Eusabe (1867), Wilfred (1868),Marie (1870), Alfred (1871), Hortence (1871), Clavise (1873), MMarie Vitaline (1880), Georgina (1883), & Cora (1885).

Ralph Brule was the Sheriff of County in Androscoggin County, Auburn-Lewiston, Maine when he died.

He married Estelle Roberts & then Antoinette Pleau

He may have married a 3rd time.I could not find any
children born to Ralph or any of his wives.

Xavier Brule & Josephine Lecompte. Her husband is
Jean Baptiste Parent.
Yes, it is true that 2 of Lucinda's sisters were Nuns.

I have pieced together much of the census information of Euchriste Brule, but this is the first I have seen of Wm. Kelley I am only under a free membership right now. After Christmas I plan on doing a paid membership and digging into this a lot more. Here is some of the misc. info:

MILWAUKEE Dec Sentinel from Lake Linden Mich says that while two Finlanders were brandishing knives in the street Marshal Mayette and Justice Brule attempted to arrest them The Fins stabbed both the officers when the marshal shot and instantly killed Alexander Perola Michael Kotila his companion was also shot in the back and will probably die.

EUCHARISTE BRULE, chief salesman of Capt. Harris' large general stores and proprietor of harness shop, was born in Lower Canada February 25, 1837; he came to Lake Superior in 1854, landing at Eagle River. May 25 of that year, he came to Torch Lake by trail; there took a Mackinaw boat and went up to the Portage, crossed Portage Lake and landed at Houghton. On his arrival at this point, he engaged with Shelden & Douglass as salesman in their store, and was with that firm for seven years, and with their successors, Harris & Smith, six years, and subsequently with John Hoat & Bro. five years. In the spring of 1873, he came to Lake Linden, and engaged as salesman with Johnson & Ormsby, merchants. This connection lasted only a short time, when he became a partner in the establishment, the firm being J. B. Ormsby & Co. About 1876, he sold out and moved to Kalamazoo County, where he spent about one year, and returned to Lake Linden to accept the position of head salesman with Capt. His name was commonly mis-spelled, Etinne being one of those mis-spellings. To the best I can summize heis given name is Euchriste, see below. I have more info on my laptop at work that I will pass along.

By any chance do you know anything about Etienne Brule's siblings or parents? My Brule tree is in Lake Linden, MI around the same time frame. The parent's names are Hercules Brule and Aurore Ethser or Ethies. I'm wondering if any of Hercules family was also in Lake Linden. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Grandmother, Mabel (May) Brule was the daughter of Justice and Etienne Brule. She graduated high school from Lake Linden, MI in 1898. She went on to secondary school to become a stenographer. In 1900 sho took a job as stenographer in Anaconda, MT for an attorney. In 1902 she married William Kelley in Anaconda. Mr Kelley was possibly a doctor. At some point she was no longer married to Mr Kelley, I would assume that he died. She married John Saunders in Sandpoint, ID. He worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers. The had one child in ID, Chester then he transferred to Sault ste Marie, MI and had two other children, Ross and Robert. My father is Ross.

My grandmother's grandfather (Emanuel Brule) came from Haiti. I am not sure what year. He was born around 1863 and migrated to Louisiana. He married Clothilde Thomatis in 1887 and proceeded to have six children in Louisiana including Emanuel, Selika (Celika/ Celina), Benoit, Maceo, Anthony (Antonio)and Feline.

Thank you for your reply Lori.I don't live in the Ottawa area (London)but many relatives do but not in Billings Bridge anymore.The reason this is so exciting for us is that Emelie is my great great grandmother.From accounts in the family she worked for William MacKenzie the famous railroad tycoon as a maid in his house.Emilie bore 2 children out of wedlock to him..Virginnie (my great grandmother)and a brother Edouard .Since they were born in the same year the thought is they were twins.Of course given the times this was a curse and so Virginnie and Edouard were raised by the Brules.I believe Joseph was raised in the same household. Emelie's story has never been known because of the stigma attached but I believe she was a Brule as in those times children born out of wedlock were raised by family.I look forward to your reply and thanks again...Ron

This would appear to be the same family. Joseph was my great-great grandfather. His daughter Victoria (Victoire) was my great-grandmother and married Francois Sabourin. They were all from the Billings Bridge area in Ottawa. I will look through my files to see if I have any information about Amelie, I seem to remember something in there about an Emilie but it may have just been her name on the tree.

Hello, my name is Ron Morin and I believe Joseph Brule was was raised with a woman named Virginnie .She called him her brother but it is also noted that he really was her uncle .Virginnie was my great grand-mother and married Paul Lecompte.What we are interested in is a lady named Emilie (Amelie)who was my great grandmother's mother.She also had a child named Edouard who I believe was raised as well by the Brules. Emelie I believe was a Brule as that is the name she went by. According to my Mother her great aunt Alexina Plamondon was married to Alfred Brule. They had a son Ovila married to a Yvonne Duval. In a family history book (Other side of my family) I have found a Ovila Brule, who's parents were Josephat Brule and Marie Lacharite, married to a Yvonne Duval. It doesn't sound like the same person to me? Can someone shed some light on this for me? Were there 2 Ovila Brule both born in St. Joseph, Manitoba?

André Brulé - Elisa Le Proux (France & England)

Hi all, I have hit a brick wall looking for info on my French ancestors!

My grt-grandfather was André Charles Brulé. Although French, he was said to have been born in Cairo where his parents were on the stage. He married Elisa Le Proux in France, first child Geneviève born there, then came to live in London. Geneviève was known as Genette - she married Shiryo Takasaki, had daughter Mary who may have married an American serviceman.

Further children Isabella and Madeline Noella born in London in 1905 and 1908. Elisa and Noella went back to live in France and we lost touch. André remarried and died in 1964, London. Isabella was my grandmother.

If this looks familiar to anyone I would really appreciate it if you would get in touch.

Seeking info on this family. Joseph's parents appear to have been Jonas and Philomena BRULEY (Brulé), from Canada, Quebec. In 1870, they lived in New York, Columbia County, New Lebanon. In 1880 census, Philomena and kids show up without Jonas in Massachusetts, Berkshire County, Pittsfield (under Prilomena Bruley). In 1900-1930 censuses, Joseph shows up in Massachusetts, Essex County, Danvers.

Children of Hyppolite Brule and Zoe Sevigny

I am trying to find out information on the children of Hyppolite Brule and Zoe Sevigny especially if they had a daughter Carolyn. I found Hyppolite and Zoe's marriage of 1838 in St. Cuthbert in the Loiselle Marriage Index. My great great great grandmother was Carolyn Brule who married Thomas Mandell but I cannot locate a record in that index for her. Her death certificate from Hinsdale Massachusetts lists a Paul Bruley and Zoe Savegny as parents. Any help would be appreciated.

Lucie married Jean-Baptiste (Johnny) Parent. They had 16 children.

French explorer Samuel de Champlain in 1615 became the first European to discover the upper Great Lakes, but it was one of his adventurous crewmen, Etinne Stephen Brule, who is credited with first taking a small boat out on this southernmost & smallest body of these inland seas of fresh water. In 1617 Brule explored the lake islands & the mouth of the Huron River in what is now the Western Reserve of Ohio, establishing a small colony with the aid of local Indian sqaws. From these early beginnings sprang commerce in the fur trade & military outpost supplies...."

Joseph Brule & Josephine Lecompte

I'm looking for information on Joseph Brule, his wife was Josephine Lecompte. I believe they were from the Sorel area of Quebec. They had a daughter named Victoire (Victoria) about 1875-1880, she was my g-grandmother. If anyone has any info on this line, I would greatly appreciate it.

Where in Mass. do you live? My mother's family went to Putnam, CT after they left Canada. We also had relatives in Mass. and RI but I'm not sure where exactly.
