I am a Brumbach, Brombach descendant and my files contain 80 inidividuals who all had something to do with the same German village.<br><br>My question is, what is the correct name of the village? Is it Mussen, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany or is it Meissen, Saxony, Germany? There does not appear to be a village with the name of Muesen.

I am working on it. G.M.Brumbaugh suggests that they-- meaning Johann Jacob and Johannes Henrich-- might be cousins or of some other familial relationship. Figuring it out means reviewing the German files in the little town of Muesen if indeed that town is their village of origin which might not be the case. I do believe that Johann Jacob spent time with Johannes Henrich's son Conrad, and probably his other son George. There were two other sons, Johan Jacob called "Jockel" and Johannes.<br><br>If you have any information or way of helping, i invite the help as it interests me to solve this. Been working on it for a while.<br><br>Cheers!

It seems everyone is searching for the parents of Johann Jacob Brumbaugh. Some have listed Johannes Henrick Brumbach as the father of Johann Jacob Brumbaugh, others have listed them as a cousin. The book by G. M. Brumbauch families genealogy 1913 - mentions there relationship as cousins. States Johann Jacob Brumbaugh as "Orphan" came over from Germany in 1750. We are also from that line. Please...if anyone can clear this up, or discovers the actual parents of Johann Jacob Brumbaugh, please update!! Thank you!!!

It is available on line now free or low cost. It can be read online onyour computer or tablet:) Thanks for responding, Eileen

Most secondary sources say that Johann Jacob Brumbaugh (ca 1728-1799) of Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland, had a son John who was, they say, born in 1768. However, in the fall of 1776, John and his older brother Jacob were among the men paying fines as non-associators and non-enrollers in the Washington County militia as reported in writing by the Committee of Observation for Elizabeth Town (later called Hagerstown), so in 1776, John must have been over age 16 (the draft age was 16 to 50 in MD that year), which means born in 1760 or before. Does anyone have the family Bible or Day book where we can verify this by a contemporary record??

I visited Germanna Memorial Foundation's headquarters in VA last week and found interesting data on Melchior Brumback of Muesen who settled in VA in the first wave Germanna settlement in 1714. I think probably my Johann Jacob Brumbach is a relative but i need some German data from Muesen to prove it. Melchior emigrated in 1714, and Jacob in 1750. And then Johannes Henrich Brumbaugh in 1754 . If anyone can help me with data from Germany to prove or disprove the relationship, i'd be most grateful.

Thank you. Can you tell me the source of that attribution to Christoffel <br>Brombach and Maria Elisabeth Helman? That is to say, can you cite some primary source material or is that based on a secondary source of another descendant who says that that is the father on his tree? You could be right either way, but i am seeking primary source material contemporaneous to his date of birth or death that confirms the facts. Census, manumission records, tax records of his village, church records, whatever is primary to that time period and these facts.

I am trying to trace the village of origin in Germany of Johann Jacob Brumbach (ca 1726-1799) who emigrated on Ship Nancy arriving Phila 31 Aug 1750 and settled in Hagerstown area of Maryland. He arrived as an orphan, with no other people of same name but with passengers identified with Hesse, Wurttemburg, Baden. He is sometimes linked to Johannes Henrich/Heinrich Brumbach who arrived Phila 1754 and also settled in Hagerstown area. This second Brumbach IS identified with origins in Muesen, Siegen-Wittgenstein, Nordhein-Pfalz where he married Anna Juliana Kemper in April 8, 1733. <br><br>I am wondering if you have any way of linking Johann Jacob to origins in Muesen?<br>What are the sources on which you base the long and detailed post of 2 Feb 2010? Many thanks for any help!

Johan Jacob Brumbach came on Ship Nancy arriving Philadelphia 31 Aug 1750 with no family accompanying him. He lived Frederick Co, MD which became Washington Co. He also had land in Morrison's Cove, Bedford Co, PA. He married Mary Elizabeth Angle. In 1775 and 1785 he showed up in PA with Conrad Brumbaugh and George Brumbaugh, children I think of Johannes Henrich Brumbaugh who could have been a brother or cousin of JJB. JJB had 7 children with Mary--- jacobJr, Mary, John, Henry, Daniel, David and George. JJB died April 10, 1799. I know a great deal of detail about this family and want to write a book on it.<br><br>I want to know someone who can tell me about Johannes Henrich Brumbaugh and his village of origin in Grrmany so I can investigate if JJB also had his origins in that village. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jacob, John, Yoekel, Johannes, "Honas", John Henry....all names of ancestors decending from Johannes Heinrich Brumbach, Brumbaugh.....the beginning of a line from my father's side of the family Dad passed away Aug 28 of last year and was also Jacob Brumbaugh whose parentage descends from Morrison's Cove area of the Juniata River we all love. Can you distinguish among these namesakes ?I think the senior Johannes and Jacob came on the Neptune out of Rotterdam with Capt Weir to the port of Phila. 9 20 1754,7 Oct 1765 while the two remaining brothers in Germany came later in the Countess of Sussex to Germantown PA ad the last brother was born in Maryland.
I am looking to see if anyone has traced Johann Jacob Brumbach/Brumbaugh (b. ca 1726, d. 4-10-1799) back to his native German city. He was supposed to have arrived here in 1750 from the Palatinate (other passengers on his Ship Nancy arriving Phila 8-31-1750 were from Hesse, Wurttemburg, and Baden, so he was a Palatine) as an orphan and from an unknown place and with 50 pounds sterling in his pocket. He lived near Hagerstown, Washington Co, MD, and also owned much acreage in Morrison's Cove, Bedford Co, PA. I am familiar with the G. M. Brumbaugh book Brumbach, Brumbaugh Families (pub'd 1913), but want to see first if anyone has traced this gentleman back to Germany. I have dug up new and very interesting information here, but want to go back to his German roots before I publish the rest.

In 1572, we have "Jost in der Braunbach." Only a generation or two earlier, in lieu of a last name, individuals are referred to as the son of another individual. Apparently, with the passage of time, the family members were identified by the name of the farm, Brombach or Brumbach, on which they lived.
If you will go to your geanology branch in your local library, ask if they have the book GEANALOGY OF THE BRUMBACH FAMILIES. It is a 2-part publication by Gaius M. Brumbaugh and covers the Brumbach/brumbaughs you are looking for. It is out of print for it was in 1913, Hope you find it cause the people you are looking for are in it.<br>

Another source of information about Hermanus Brumbach and his family is Montgomery's History of Berks County, published in 1909. Currently it is being transcribed for browsing online. The url is: <a href="http://www.rootsweb.com/~paberks/montgomery/mintro.html" target="_blank">http://www.rootsweb.com/~paberks/montgomery/mintro.html</a><br>

Liz, or any other Brumbach researcher, do you know anything about EDWIN H. BRUMBACH, son of James D. Brumbach and Susannah [nee Herbein]? He was born 24 feb 1869. Married Mary Alice Griesemer. Had three children: M. EDNA &amp; LLOYD EDWIN, TWINS, CHARLES LESTER, JACOB LEROY. Was postmaster at Pleasantville, Berks Co, PA. What I seek is his Death Date, and any descendents who can shed light on his name. Is it Edwin H. Brumbach or Edwin Irwin Brumbach? He seems to have left his place of birth, Oley, PA, for I find no estate records at the Court House. Thanks.

Ray-<br>What I really need to know is if Deborah and Solomon are the parents (or grandparents) of my Great Grandmother Alice Schollenberger. I just need to confirm if I've skipped a generation, or if I have everyone accounted for. I've just recently returned from Oley...stomping around all the cemeteries but haven't really been able to confirm if Deborah and Solomon are my Great Great or Great Great Great Grandparents. Thanks for responding and if you learn anything else, please let me know. I actually have Eliza's and Abraham's family bible, but it stops with their 11 children's births and doesn't go any further. Thanks again. Kristen

Ray-sorry just read your first response. I didn't get to the Hill Cemetery. I was at Jacksonwald (there are many Brumbachs there too) and the twin churches in Oley (don't actually know the name) where there are Brumbachs as well. Though I didn't see my direct relatives at either cemetery. I'll try Hill when I'm back home again. Thanks.

HELP PLEASE!

Has anyone come across a MARY BRUMBACH/BRUMBAUGH or FLORA BRUMBACH, probably BA 1861/1862 and died 1889. I believe she is from Pennsylvania(possibly Braddock or Altoona area) and either died in PA or DeWitt County, IL. She married James McWilliams around 1878 and had 7 children, only 3 survived past infancy. One was my grandmother, Emma, a son Thomas, and son Curtis. My grandmother left a small piece of paper listing her mother as Mary Brumbach, however according to recent records obtained from IL and IA, her guardian, W.H. Weller listed her mother's name as FLORA. If anyone has come across any of these names or dates that even look like a remote possibility, I would greatly appreciate a response. Thanks - gretchen<br>
