A few updates. I've recently been scanning all old family photos to computer, but I have not yet labelled everything. I showed my father (Ross) the photo, and find I had several misunderstandings. The photo was taken in 1945 at RLDS Church Grand Ave Chatham, Ontario. The church was recently sold but still stands. From the left. Grace Savage, Ethyl (last name will come to him later), Fanny Brumby (nee Ward), Margery Mooney (Florence Brumby [another sister]and CH Mooney's daughter), and Kathleen Hogan (nee Savage).
Yes Lizzie Haggard was a Brumby (the youngest)I have them all as follows in order of age, but I do not have birthrates for most of them. Alice Nelles, Ethyl (I have Talbot and Sterling as last names?), Florence Mooney, Emily, Sidney, Grace Savage, and Elizabeth Haggard.
I can be reached at electronerd75@gmail.com
David

Dear David,Thank you for posting the photo.I believe that the lady second from the left is Aunt Ethel.I remember that she visited my grandmother Grace Savage during the 1950's.Her daughter Doris who lived in Detroit would bring her and sometimes her sister Grace would accompany them. She was named after my grandmother. My grandmother passed away May 11,1976 and her husband John Savage passed May 2,1969.My mother Kay Hogan after who I am named passed away Sept.26,2008 at the age of 88.My father James Hogan passedDec.31,1985 at the age of 68.I have a memorium card for a Lizzie Haggard who died in Blenheim Nov.6,1918 at the age of 23.David do you know of this person and if she is a member of the Brumby family ?I have pictures of my mother and my grandmother taken at the Blenheim farm.I am going to sort through my pictures and cards there may be some information that you might find helpful.I will be in touch

Kathleen: I assume you are named after your mother. My mother Vera and Kay Hogan were close friends before distance separated them. I clearly remember her mentioning that name several times in family discussions. Attached please find a photo. Rena Brumby (my grandmother) on the left. I believe, but do not know that aunt Grace is second from the left. Fanny Brumby (also my great Grandmother) is in the middle. I am unsure about the other too ladies although I think the second from the right is a Marg Mooney. The photo was taken outside the RLDS church in Blenheim, Ontario early 1950's. I will check these identities today with my father Ross who will remember all these people.
Fanny Brumby (Ward) was born 11, Mar 1870 Surfleet, England
She married George Brumby (Born 3 October 1862, England)He came to Canada in the spring of 1882 and died 26 June 1921.
They were married 10 October 1888.
That's all I appear to have, and I would be interested in any other information.

David Wood

It has been FOUR years since your post about Thomas Lyle Brumby, but I thank you! I am helping a friend connect the dots of his family's journey from South Carolina to Leon County, TX. Thomas Lyle owned my friend's father and mother in S.C., then they were moved to MS. I'm almost certain John Greening must have owned them there, but then they were moved to Leon County, TX. I have been unable to connect the Brumby name to them there.....yet. Again, thank you.

My Grandfather (George Sidney Brumby) had 5 sisters (and two daughters) Thus he was the last of the Brumby line in his branch. One of those Sisters Ethel married a Sterling. Their father was George Brumby (b. 3 October 1862 d. 26 June 1921) He came to Canada in the spring of 1882. He married Fanny Ward (b. 11 March 1870, Surfleet, England d. 15 March 1956, Blenheim, Ontario.)George Sidney inherited the family home (which still stands) in Blenheim, Ontario, Canada, in exchange for looking after his widowed mother, Fanny. She was my great grandmother; whom I remember well from my childhood. I have no information predating George and Fanny, but would certainly be interested in any links.
George and Fanny's other daughters were. Alice (oldest) then Ethel, Florence (married Charles Mooney)Emily, and Grace (married a Savage [last name not a condition])!

David

Re: Thomas Lyal Brumby

It's been a year since your inquiry but I might have some information for you. Thomas Lyal Brumby, b. ? in England, d. 1765 in Georgetown, South Carolina, was my husband's great-great-great-great grandfather. He and wife Elizabeth had one son, Thomas (and a daughter, Elizabeth). I've never seen a middle name for this son Thomas, but he married Susannah Greening in South Carolina in 1791. (Check http://pages.prodigy.net/procyon/swepson/index.html for tons of info on these people.) This second Thomas also died in South Carolina and is buried at Wedgefield, Sumter County, South Carolina, were he had a 400 acre plantation. Thomas and Susannah had several children: Elizabeth, b. 1792; Thomas Mason, b. 1794; Emily Margaret, b. 1797; Robert Horatio, b. 1799; Mary Elvira, b. 1801; Richard Trapier, b. 1804; John Greening (my husband's line), b. 1807; and Anoldus Van Der Horst, b. 1809. Some of these children did move to Alabama and then to Georgia. I believe some of the descendants did go on to Texas, but I'm not certain which ones. My database doesn't contain another Thomas Lyal Brumby at this time, but it would be likely someone named a child after the Thomas Lyal who was the first of this family to come to America; several of the descendants were named Thomas. I don't know if any of this helps you, but maybe you can work down from this Thomas Lyal to the one you're looking for; a lot of genealogy work has been done on this family.

My ancestors originate from around Scotton, Lincolnshire, England and I know that some emigrated to Australia and America. In return I will supply details of my branch of the Brumby Family in recent years - the majority of which are still based around North Lincolnshire. I did some work 2/3 years ago and this was given to a link in Australia & I have since lost it so have to start again.(I also know from a newspaper report that my fathers cousin Mrs Barbara Searson - nee Brumby - was in contact with a Ms Hobbs in Australia with regard to family history in 1996).
Thanks in anticipation.
Fred

I have a picture of my uncle James Mack Wallace. In this picture are 2 of his buddies. Surnames of these 2 are Portillo and Brumbi not sure if this is correct spelling of the name Brumbi because it is hard to read. My uncle was killed in Korean War shortly after this picture was taken. Tring to find out what might have happen to his 2 buddies? If any one has info on these to people I would like to get in contact with them. Copys of this picture can be sent.
Thanks Bill Wallace

Graham, perhaps you have heard of my Brumby family. I have a rather large Brumby Family that emigrated to Ohio in April of 1856. Thomas Brumby 1809-1889 and Hannah (Bateman) 1813-1886. They came with 13 children, some already married with children. My GGG-Grandmother Mary Brumby married Joseph King in Scampton Cliff Church, Lincolnshire May 16, 1853. Her second child was supposedly born on ship coming to America. Other than the name of the town taken from the Marriage certificate I have no other information on Thomas's background. Other children included, James, George, Thomas, Joseph, William, John and Anne. Any help would be appreciated.

I am desended from James Annesley (convict) who married and settled in Hartley Vale. James's grandson John (b1853) went to Collie WA. He married Isabelle ROSS. Does this ring any bells?

James BRUMBY born in 1771 came to Australia in 1791. There is a lot of family here in Australia. If you are after further information please email as I have a lot of info if you are tied into this family. Vicki
